Gwen stood at the door, suddenly thinking of something. She glanced at Pikachu on the sofa.
"Pikachu, pretend to be a stuffed toy!"
"Pika!"
Pikachu immediately jumped and leaned against the sofa, staying completely still, pretending to be a stuffed toy.
Then Gwen turned to Alan and gestured for him to be quiet. "Cousin Anna is dangerous. Let me do the talking."
Seeing how nervous Gwen was, Alan shrugged and said, "Alright, I'll head back to the kitchen."
Gwen nodded in agreement.
Once Alan had returned to the kitchen, Gwen finally opened the door.
At the door, Anna, dressed in red, smiled when she saw Gwen. "Hi, Gwen. Long time no see!"
Gwen felt a little uncomfortable seeing Anna.
"Uh... Cousin Anna, how did you find this place?"
Gwen's nervous expression didn't escape Anna's sharp eyes.
Anna smiled. "I just helped Uncle George with a case. He told me you were here."
"So I drove over to find you."
Then, Anna glanced into the room. "What? Not going to invite me in?"
"Of course, Cousin Anna. Please, come in."
---
In the kitchen, Alan put on his headphones and quietly asked, "Red Queen, can you find out who this Anna is?"
"One moment, master."
After a while, Red Queen responded, "Anna Granger, an outstanding graduate from the State University's psychology department. She pursued advanced studies abroad with excellent results and is now regarded as the world's youngest psychology expert. At a young age, she's helped Interpol solve several major cases."
Listening to Red Queen's introduction, Alan began to understand why Gwen was so nervous. With such a strong-willed cousin suddenly showing up, anyone would feel uneasy.
Alan finished washing some fruit and slowly walked out of the kitchen.
In the living room, Gwen and Anna were having a casual conversation, though Gwen seemed a bit tense. She knew Anna's abilities too well and was afraid that Anna might pick up on something.
Alan gave Gwen a reassuring look and placed the plate of freshly washed fruit in front of them.
"Hello, Cousin Anna. I'm Alan."
Anna glanced at Alan and smiled. "Uncle George has mentioned you."
"I came here for two reasons: one, to check on Gwen; and two, what exactly did you do in the car today?"
Anna looked at Alan with interest, while Gwen suddenly didn't understand what Anna was talking about.
"Cousin Anna, what do you mean, 'did something in the car'?"
Anna smiled. "Today, a criminal stopped Alan's car. That criminal suffers from multiple personality disorder, and yet, in front of Alan's car, the dominant personality was suddenly scared off."
After finishing, Anna glanced at Gwen's expression, only to find Gwen remaining calm, as if she already knew about this incident. However, based on the information Anna had gotten from George, Gwen wasn't with Alan at that time...
Alan couldn't help but admire this psychology expert. She had figured out so much just from a surveillance video.
Alan smiled lightly and said, "It was indeed a dangerous situation. But then, out of nowhere, the criminal started acting strangely, which I couldn't quite understand either."
"I guess I was lucky. Then Spider-Woman showed up, or else I might have lost my car."
Anna listened closely to Alan's description, carefully observing his every move. After a while, she concluded that Alan wasn't lying.
Gwen, worried that Anna might interrogate Alan like a criminal, quickly chimed in, "Yeah, thankfully Spider-Woman showed up, and then my dad came too."
Anna nodded. "Alan, I'm sorry. Occupational habit."
"No problem. Did you get anything useful from the criminal?"
Anna shook her head. "Not yet, but I think we're close. The man's condition is rare—his two personalities are fighting for control. We can't proceed until they calm down."
Alan nodded, having already asked Red Queen to look into the case. He expected results soon.
Gwen then curiously asked, "Cousin Anna, when did you get back? And why are you helping my dad with this case?"
Anna replied, "I've been back for a while, attending a few psychology seminars. There was one just a few days ago in New York on criminal psychology, and Uncle George was there too. Today, he called me about this strange criminal, and I got interested, so I dropped everything and came straight over."
Gwen nodded, knowing that this was very typical of her cousin. Anna had always been fascinated by complex cases since she was young. Back then, she'd often pester George to tell her about various cases. As she grew up, she pursued studies in criminal psychology. It was said that no criminal could hide secrets from Anna.
This was why Gwen had been so nervous when Anna showed up here.
Suddenly, Anna shifted the conversation. "Gwen, what's your relationship with Alan?"
The question caught Gwen off guard. Her face instantly turned red as she looked at Alan.
What was their relationship now?
She wanted to say they were boyfriend and girlfriend.
But then again, Alan hadn't officially confirmed their relationship yet.
Alan watched Gwen's cute reaction and was about to say something when Anna's phone rang.
Anna answered the call, "Hello, Uncle George..."
Listening to the other end, Anna frowned, "Okay, I'll head over right away!"
She hung up and playfully stuck out her tongue. "One of the criminal's personalities has taken control of the body. I have to go back for the interrogation, so I won't trouble you two little ones anymore."
Alan's face darkened at her last comment. Little ones?
Meanwhile, Gwen let out a long sigh of relief upon hearing Anna was leaving, as if she had narrowly escaped a disaster.
"Good luck, Cousin Anna! I'm sure you'll solve the case!" Gwen said with enthusiasm.
Seeing how eager Gwen was for her to leave, Anna tapped Gwen on the forehead. "You little...!"
"Well, I'll head out now. I'll visit again when I have time."
Just as Anna stood up, her eyes caught sight of Pikachu, who was still pretending to be a stuffed toy.
Pikachu's cute appearance instantly melted Anna's heart.
"Wow, what an adorable stuffed toy!"
With quick reflexes, Gwen grabbed Pikachu and hugged it. "Uh... Cousin Anna, this is my toy."
Anna noticed Gwen's nervous reaction and immediately understood. "I get it, Alan gave it to you. Don't worry, I won't take it."
"I better go. That criminal's condition might not last long."
---
Out on the balcony, Alan leaned against the railing, watching as Gwen eagerly saw Anna off. Pikachu sighed deeply behind him, relieved to have narrowly avoided becoming someone else's plaything.
Pikachu looked at Alan with a pitiful expression. "Pika...chu..."
Seeing Pikachu's complaint about having to pretend to be a toy, Alan laughed.
"Haha... I'll think of something. But you're just too cute! Anyone who sees you would want to hug you."
---
"Master..."
At that moment, Red Queen's voice interrupted.
"I've gathered the information on the criminal."
"Let's hear it."
Alan moved back into the living room and opened his laptop. Two videos appeared on the screen.
The first showed a homeless man sleeping under a bridge, suddenly being grabbed and taken away by several people. The second video showed a strong man climbing over a tall wall.
Alan furrowed his brows. From the footage, it was clear that both walls were the same, meaning the place where the homeless man was taken and where the escape occurred were identical.
And that wall... it seemed familiar to Alan.
"Red Queen, where is this location?"
"Osborn Industries."
Upon hearing this, Alan immediately understood what was going on.
"It seems the Green Goblin is about to make his appearance. Gwen's new suit needs to be ready soon..."
At that moment, Gwen returned and stood behind Alan.
Blushing, she shyly asked, "Alan, what were you going to say to Cousin Anna earlier?"
Alan smiled and walked up to her. Leaning down slightly, he whispered in her ear, "Take a guess..."
The warm breath on her earlobe made Gwen blush all the way down to her neck. She could barely make out the last two words Alan said.
"I'll go make dinner."
After teasing Gwen, Alan laughed and headed for the kitchen.
---
Outside the New York Police Department, Anna parked her car and headed straight for the detention area.
As soon as she walked into the precinct, George approached, clearly focused on the case at hand.
At that moment, George didn't bother asking about Alan or Gwen and instead said, "It's strange. Right now, the weaker personality is in control."
"They had an argument earlier, and the dominant personality was pushed back."
Anna let out a surprised, "Oh? I thought the dominant personality would take over."
"Well, this might actually work in our favor. We should be able to make faster progress now."
