"No... please... don't eat me..."
Under Alan's mental assault, the vagrant's strong second personality crumbled like paper. In almost an instant, he lost all ability to resist.
Gwen swung with all her strength, her heart continuously praying that nothing had happened. When she saw the vagrant standing still in front of Alan's car, her heart leaped into her throat.
But the next moment, she watched the vagrant, who had only paused in front of Alan's car for a moment, begin retreating step by step. He looked as though he'd just seen something terrifying.
"What's going on?" Gwen was baffled. Just moments ago, this vagrant had been charging at the police with overwhelming arrogance, but now he seemed like a mouse that had seen a cat.
Quickly, Gwen landed gracefully on the hood of Alan's car with a dull thud. She turned to look at Alan and Pikachu in the passenger seat.
"Are you two alright?"
Alan nodded, signaling that they were fine. Pikachu, excited to see Gwen, started waving its little arms enthusiastically from inside the car.
Seeing that both of them were okay, Gwen turned her attention back to the vagrant. However, the vagrant was no longer acting haughty. His eyes were filled with terror as he looked around, much like a frightened child.
After scanning his surroundings, the vagrant finally noticed Spider-Woman perched on the hood of the car, and his eyes lit up like he'd seen a falling star.
"Spider-Woman... You're Spider-Woman..."
Seeing the strange behavior, Gwen replied, "Of course, we just had a bit of a fight."
But it seemed like the vagrant didn't hear Gwen at all. In a panic, he pleaded, "Spider-Woman, you have to save me. They're trying to hurt me!"
"They tied me up and injected me with something."
"You have to help me!"
This scene not only made Gwen feel confused but also caused Alan to frown slightly.
In theory, his mental attack was only meant to scare the vagrant a little, but not enough to frighten him to this extent.
Observing the vagrant's abnormal reaction, Alan finally spoke up, "Red Queen, what's going on with him?"
Given the Red Queen's vast knowledge, she was practically a super genius by now. Whenever something was unclear, asking her was always a good start.
"Master, it seems he has a split personality."
"The personality that tried to attack you earlier appears to be the stronger one."
"As for this one, based on his reaction, it seems he's unaware that he has a second personality."
"Split personality?"
Alan immediately understood—his mental shock had frightened the stronger personality back into hiding, and now the weaker one had emerged.
However, determining which of the two was the primary personality was something even Red Queen couldn't deduce.
Gwen also heard the Red Queen's analysis. As she was considering what to do, Alan spoke first, "Gwen, use your web to restrain him and let the police take him away."
Gwen nodded. "Got it!"
She shot out webs from her hand, which expanded into a large web mid-air, ensnaring the vagrant.
"Spider-Woman, why are you capturing me? They're trying to kill me—save me...!"
"Save me, Spider-Woman...!"
"They?" Gwen glanced at Alan, who thought for a moment and nodded in her direction.
"Don't worry. I'm here to protect you."
"Tell me, who are 'they'?" Gwen slowly approached, trying to calm the vagrant down, but it didn't seem to help much. He continued to look at Gwen with desperation while nervously scanning his surroundings.
Although the street was sparsely populated, to him, it seemed like a terrifying hell.
Just then, several police cars arrived with sirens blaring, surrounding the area.
At the sound of the police sirens, the vagrant immediately curled up tightly in the web, falling silent. However, his trembling body still betrayed his overwhelming fear.
As the detectives got out of their vehicles, they immediately raised their guns, all aiming at the vagrant trapped within the web.
George walked up to Gwen and said, "Thank you, Spider-Woman. You've helped us catch another criminal."
Gwen quickly explained, "It wasn't me who caught him."
George, puzzled, looked at the webs covering the vagrant. Wasn't this your doing?
Seeing George still misunderstood, Gwen continued to explain, "Strictly speaking, when I arrived, he was already in this state."
"According to my analysis, he likely has a dual personality. When he tried to attack the gentleman behind me, his other personality woke up and stopped the assault."
She pointed toward Alan behind her.
George looked over curiously and, upon recognizing Alan, his expression became quite amusing.
"Miss Spider-Woman, please wait a moment..."
George walked over to Alan's car. Pikachu, sitting inside, immediately turned into a lifeless plush toy, acting all innocent.
Alan rolled down the window, "Uncle George, what a coincidence."
George smiled but didn't waste any time with formalities. "Alan, what exactly happened earlier?"
Alan replied, "Everything that happened was recorded by my car's dashcam. I'll send it to you in a bit."
After exchanging a few more words, George glanced at Pikachu sitting in the passenger seat. Pikachu, feeling George's gaze, instantly tensed up, wondering, Is he going to pinch me again?
George chuckled and said, "Gwen has one just as cute."
Meanwhile, Gwen, not wanting George to suspect too much, had already shot a web and left the scene.
"You should head home now. We'll review the nearby surveillance footage, and once everything checks out, send me the dashcam footage."
After saying goodbye to George, Alan drove away.
In the car, Alan thought about how the vagrant kept mentioning "they." He spoke calmly, "Red Queen, investigate where this man first appeared and at what point his behavior started becoming abnormal."
"Understood, Master."
"Pika... Chu...?"
Alan glanced at Pikachu and said, "We're going to buy some food. We'll wait for Gwen at the supermarket."
"Gwen should be there soon."
Upon hearing they were getting food, Pikachu immediately became excited and started cheering, "Pika... Chu!"

At Oscorp Industries.
Thanks to Peter and Norman's hard work, they had finally developed a new anti-gene serum. In front of them lay the test subject—a monkey that had been part of their previous experiments.
The monkey, now lying on the bed, had bulging muscles, its nearly perfect muscle definition making it hard to believe it was a monkey. It looked more like a small gorilla.
Peter and Norman exchanged a glance and injected the modified monkey with a greenish-blue serum.
As the serum entered its body, white steam began to seep from the cracks in the monkey's muscles. The monkey's body slowly started to shrink.
After about ten minutes, the monkey had returned to its normal size. The instruments monitoring its vitals showed no abnormalities.
"It worked! Now we just need to find the modified man," Peter exclaimed with excitement.
Norman, relieved at the successful experiment, nodded and let out a long sigh. The burden on his heart had been lifted—at least halfway.
Now, they only hoped to find and deal with the modified human before the police could, minimizing the damage.
"I've already sent Jack's men out to look for him. As soon as there's any news, we'll be informed immediately," Norman said.
Just as he finished speaking, hurried footsteps echoed from outside the lab. Hearing this, both Peter and Norman frowned.
The lab door burst open, and Jack rushed in, his face full of anxiety. He only managed to say three words:
"Something went wrong!"
Upon hearing this, Peter and Norman immediately knew what Jack was referring to.
