"That silly frog is back, just in time."
"Now that I have some money, I can give you a proper upgrade."
Alan entered the game, skillfully dismissing the notification messages, and focused on the travel souvenir the Frog had just brought back. This time, it was a small green stone with a yellow lightning bolt symbol inside.
Alan clicked on it.
[Thunder Stone]: A specialty from the Pokémon world, a stone imbued with special power that allows Pokémon to evolve into more powerful forms.
"This can evolve Pikachu into Raichu," Alan thought, recalling the Pokémon storyline.
But it seemed that Raichu wasn't as cute as Pikachu...
So, Alan decided to keep the Thunder Stone for now.
"System, I want to recharge 1,000 clovers."
"Alright, Host."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Alan's clover balance soared to over 1,500.
With his balance increased, Alan opened the shop. It was time to purchase items to strengthen The Frog. Alan had already selected the items during his free time earlier.
[Iron Body]
Price: 250 Clovers
Type: One-time use item
Effect: Permanently increases the frog's defense.
[Strength of Nine Bulls and Two Tigers]
Price: 350 Clovers
Type: One-time use item
Effect: Permanently and significantly increases The Frog's strength, granting the power of nine bulls and two tigers.
[Blessed Red Scarf]
Price: 430 Clovers
Type: Wearable item
Effect: Wearing it grants The Frog a blessing, increasing luck by 8 and improving the quality of travel souvenirs.
Alan bought all three items and used them on The Frog. At this moment, The Frog stood at the door, carrying double blades on its back. Around its neck was a red scarf with a hint of gold, and a small heart-shaped bubble floated above its head, swaying occasionally, indicating The Frog's happiness.
Curious, Alan asked, "Looks like you had a lot of fun in the Pokémon world this time, huh?"
The Frog immediately started waving its little hands, and the small bubble turned into a large one, filled with various Pokémon avatars surrounding its own.
"You mean you made a lot of friends in that world, right?"
The small bubble quickly turned into a smiley face.
Seeing The Frog so happy, Alan smiled as well. He bought a deluxe bento box from the shop and placed it in The Frog's backpack.
"When you go out to play, be careful. If you get bullied like last time, just come back right away."
"I'll buy you the best equipment, and we'll fight back!"
Hearing Alan's words, The Frog's little eyes turned into crescent moons. It then returned to the table in the room and started eating the deluxe bento Alan had just bought. After finishing the meal, the Frog continued writing in its diary at its little desk.
Looking at The Frog's small yard and pond, Alan couldn't wait for some companions to visit Frog so he could enter the game to welcome them himself and experience the little yard firsthand.
Alan thought to himself, "The Frog has visited four worlds now and made quite a few friends."
(Note: Armor Hero, Resident Evil, Terminator, Pokémon)
"They should be visiting soon, right?"
Alan glanced at The Frog writing in its diary, then checked the shop again, but found nothing else worth buying at the moment. After exiting the shop, he took another look at the Frog and noticed it had fallen asleep on the desk, a small bubble forming on its nose.
Alan chuckled softly and exited the game, returning to reality.
Back in the real world, the lawyers at Kingpin's company were proving their worth. It hadn't been long, but the crowd had already thinned out significantly. Upstairs, Kingpin was also pleased as he watched from above. His lawyers would naturally handle these cases; as long as the reasoning was sound, he wouldn't even need to appear in court.
A knock came from the office door behind him.
Hearing the knock, Kingpin calmly said, "Come in."
The door opened, and a professional-looking Black woman in business attire walked in, bowing slightly to Kingpin's back.
"Boss."
"You're here, Attorney Janie."
Kingpin turned around, looking satisfied at the sight of Janie, the top lawyer he had on his payroll.
"I knew I could trust you. You've solved a big problem for me, dear."
Kingpin warmly opened his arms and walked towards Janie, giving her a big hug.
Janie, Tiny and Fragile, in Kingpin's Arms, Was Like a Doll.
As she inhaled the scent of Kingpin, her face showed a hint of disgust, but she didn't dare move. It wasn't until Kingpin released her and noticed her discomfort that he asked, "What's wrong?"
After a brief silence, Janie replied, "Boss Kingpin, I suggest you find the person who betrayed you quickly. Otherwise, the upcoming trials will be very troublesome."
Kingpin's brow furrowed deeply. "Betrayed me? What do you mean?"
Kingpin knew he wasn't a good person, but he found it hard to believe that anyone under his command would betray him. After all, his people understood that the consequences of betrayal would be dire.
Seeing the clueless expression on Kingpin's face, Janie felt a pang of pity for the crime lord. He was being sold out and didn't even realize it.
"All the cases we've just received have evidence of your crimes. And it's all real!"
As Kingpin's top lawyer, Janie was well aware of his dark secrets. She was even entangled in some of his dirty work herself. They were in this together—if one fell, so would the other. That's why she hoped Kingpin would find out who was behind this. The only people who could gather such evidence were Kingpin's closest confidants, and Janie couldn't think of anyone else.
Listening to Janie's words, veins bulged on Kingpin's forehead. Although he remained outwardly calm, his anger had reached a boiling point. He had considered the possibility of betrayal before, but quickly dismissed it, confident that no one would dare take such a risk under his reign of terror.
But Janie's words shattered his last illusion.
There was indeed a mole in Kingpin's organization.
Janie, who had worked with Kingpin for years, knew he was now convinced of her warning.
"I'll go handle the rest of the matters. You should lay low for the next few days. All the lawyers will be busy, and if you get charged with anything else, it will only make things worse."
"I understand. Go ahead. I'll find the mastermind behind this as soon as possible."
With Kingpin's assurance, Janie bowed and left the room. Once she was gone, Kingpin was alone in his office.
Crack, crack...
In his extreme anger, the muscles under Kingpin's suit bulged rapidly, causing several parts of the suit to tear.
"A mole? Hahaha…"
His harsh laughter revealed the deep-seated rage building within him.
At Alan's Home.
Pikachu, exhausted from playing, had fallen asleep in Alan's arms. It had jumped up there on its own, refusing to sleep anywhere else despite Gwen's attempts to convince it.
Gwen watched enviously—though whether she envied Pikachu or Alan, only she knew.
"Alan, you've been glued to your computer since dinner. What are you looking at?" Gwen asked curiously.
Alan smiled. "Nothing important."
"By the way, Gwen, you mentioned last time that Daredevil told you those gangsters were working for Kingpin. Have you encountered any more of Kingpin's people since then?"
Gwen thought for a moment before answering, "No, I haven't."
Alan nodded. With Red Queen's help in avoiding detection, it wouldn't be easy for anyone to uncover Gwen's true identity. Not even S.H.I.E.L.D. could manage that.
Alan was certain that Nick Fury, who was assembling the Avengers, had already set his sights on Gwen. He just hadn't figured out who she really was yet.
"Master, your new car has arrived downstairs. Please come down to sign for it," Red Queen's voice suddenly announced.
Gwen looked at Alan with curiosity. "Alan, did you buy a new car?"
"Yes, I did. Come on, let's go sign for it and take it for a spin."
Alan started to get up but realized Pikachu was still asleep on his lap. He gently patted Pikachu.
"Hey, Pikachu, want to go for a ride?"
Pikachu's long ears perked up instantly, and it leaped to its feet with a cheerful "Pika…" Its excitement was undeniable.
Gwen rolled her eyes at Pikachu. "Weren't you just saying you were tired?"
Pikachu glanced at Gwen and responded, "Pika… Pika… Chuu…"
Gwen looked puzzled and turned to Alan. "What's Pikachu saying?"
Alan laughed. "Pikachu says he's tired from playing with you, but not with me."
Gwen glared playfully at Pikachu. "Hmph!"
"Pika…"
Pikachu mimicked her huff, adding to the playful atmosphere.
Suddenly, Gwen's eyes lit up as she thought of something. "Alan, Pikachu's the kind of pet no one's ever seen before. Won't taking him outside cause a stir?"
Gwen's exaggerated concern made Pikachu's ears droop instantly, looking downcast as it muttered "Pika… Pika…" with tears welling up in its eyes.
Realizing she had upset Pikachu, Gwen quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, Pikachu. I didn't mean it…"
But her attempts to comfort Pikachu seemed to fall flat, so she turned to Alan for help. "Alan, what should I do? I didn't mean to upset him."
Alan smiled, patting Pikachu on the head. "It's okay. Let's just head downstairs. Gwen, you can carry him, and when we're around people, Pikachu can just pretend to be a stuffed toy."
Gwen's eyes brightened at the idea. "That's right, Pikachu! Just pretend to be a stuffed toy!"
Pikachu's ears perked up again. "Pika… Pika…"
Alan shrugged. "I'll be driving, so I can't hold you. Gwen will carry you."
Gwen finally understood that Pikachu wasn't keen on being held by her, but she couldn't argue since she had just made him cry.
Gwen gently picked up Pikachu. "Don't worry, Pikachu, I've got you. We'll go have fun in Alan's new car together."
Pikachu, somewhat resigned, responded with a soft "Pika..."
Once they were ready, Alan led them downstairs. As they walked, Gwen asked, "By the way, Alan, how do you understand what Pikachu's saying?"
Alan replied, "Maybe it's because we're really close."
In truth, it wasn't that he understood Pikachu's language; he just instinctively knew what Pikachu was trying to convey. Whether it was due to his system or his enhanced psychic powers, he wasn't sure.
Gwen nodded, half-understanding, and looked down at Pikachu in her arms. "Pikachu, I wonder when I'll be able to understand you too."
Just then, with a soft ding, the elevator doors opened.
Alan immediately said, "Pikachu, pretend to be a stuffed toy!"
"Pika!"
Pikachu shivered slightly and then went completely still in Gwen's arms, perfectly imitating a plush doll.
Alan and Gwen both smiled at the sight and stepped out of the elevator together.
Outside the building, an Audi R8 in a striking orange and black color scheme was parked at the entrance, catching the attention of several passersby. Some stopped to admire the car, intrigued by its luxury and stunning appearance, and curious about its owner.
Standing beside the car was a blonde woman dressed in a grey business suit with black stockings. Her pose accentuated her already curvaceous figure, making her look almost like a car model.
Some people even took out their phones, though whether they were photographing the car or the woman was anyone's guess.
After a moment, the blonde woman spotted a young man emerging from the apartment building. Based on the information she had, she immediately recognized him as Alan, the owner of the new Audi R8.
The blonde quickly approached him. "Mr. Ford, hello! I'm your personal service representative. This is your new car." As she spoke, she handed Alan a stylish car key.
Following close behind Alan, Gwen was taken aback when she saw the R8. She had expected Alan to buy a nice car, but she hadn't imagined it would be such a luxury vehicle!
Even though she didn't know much about cars, the level of service and the car's appearance made it clear that this was no ordinary purchase.
Alan took the key from the blonde's hand and simply said, "Thank you."
As he looked over the uniquely designed Audi R8, Alan felt very satisfied. In this world, there were two things that always seemed to captivate men: beautiful cars and beautiful girls.
Of course, the beauty in question wasn't the seductive service representative but Gwen, who was holding Pikachu behind him.
Alan got into the car and tested the R8's engine, nodding in approval at the powerful sound. "Get in," he said.
The blonde woman, who had been standing by, was delighted. It seemed her efforts with her outfit had paid off.
When she saw that the customer was a young man, she had dressed herself up to look like a teenage heartthrob. And now, it appeared she had succeeded.
With a click, the passenger door opened, and the blonde eagerly said, "Mr. Ford, let me give you a tour of all the features of this new R8." Without any hesitation, she began to unbutton the top of her blouse.
"Mr. Ford, it's a bit warm in the car. I hope you don't mind..."
Alan glanced at her and asked, "Why are you getting in?"
The blonde was stunned, "?????"
Behind him, Gwen couldn't help but burst out laughing.
