In the car, Nick Fury floored the gas pedal, speeding down the road. Sitting in the passenger seat, Rogers held onto the handle, trying his best to steady himself. He even had the humor to joke, "These places have changed a lot more than I imagined."
Nick Fury, eyes fixed ahead as he took a sharp turn, said, "Captain, I'd love to give you a full briefing, but you need to know we have more urgent matters at hand. That mutant is no good."
Fury's face was dark and grave. He had faced Magneto directly before and even threatened him.
But because of that, Fury knew just how extreme and dangerous Magneto could be. If not for the desperate threat of mutual destruction, Fury wouldn't have been able to force Magneto to leave back then.
Now, Fury's greatest concern was if Emperor and Magneto were to fight. He knew Magneto's power well, but Emperor was an enigma, one whose strength Fury was never entirely sure of.
Judging by Emperor's overwhelming victories in every appearance, Fury believed that his power was at least on par with Magneto's.
For that reason, Fury worried that if Emperor pushed Magneto too far, Magneto might end up destroying the entire city of New York. That would be a catastrophic disaster.
Rogers, sensing Fury's tension, stopped joking and sat silently, watching the scenery blur past. Fury pressed the gas pedal down to its limit, and the roar of the engine filled the street.
His car had been specially modified by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s tech department. Theoretically, if Fury wasn't afraid of death, this car could reach speeds of up to 500 miles per hour!
At this moment, Fury was rapidly approaching that number. After a heart-pounding race against time, Thirteenth Street finally came into view, and Fury eased off the gas, bringing the car to a slow stop. The vehicle came to a halt at the street entrance with a perfect drift.
The quiet atmosphere of Thirteenth Street made Fury's heart settle a bit. They had arrived in time.
"Captain, let's get out of the car. If Magneto is inside, it's better if we don't park too close," Fury said.
Rogers nodded, fumbling for the door handle but unable to find it. Modern car mechanics were far more advanced than those from his era.
"Here!" Fury indicated, unlocking the door and stepping out. Rogers mimicked him, getting out and curiously looking at Thirteenth Street. The familiar street brought back a wave of memories.
During the war, there had been a nationwide draft. He had been at Franklin, intending to enlist when a group of thugs attacked him. It was only thanks to his close friend that he had been saved.
That friend, though, was likely now...
The thought brought a touch of melancholy to Rogers' eyes until Fury's call brought him back to reality.
"Captain, up there."
Rogers followed Fury's gaze to an unassuming high-end apartment building.
"Are they up there?"
"Yes, let's go!"
With that, Fury took the lead, with Rogers right behind him. Just as the two stepped into the building and were about to take the elevator, the whole structure began to shake.
"Is it an earthquake?"
Rogers steadied himself and looked at Fury for answers.
Nick Fury's expression darkened as he looked at the rapidly shaking metal elevator.
"No, it's Magneto losing control!"
The elevator was now unusable, so Fury headed straight for the stairs. Rogers quickly followed and asked, "Which floor? I'll go ahead!"
"The 18th floor!"
Rogers raised his head, looked at the seemingly endless staircase, and grabbed the railing with one hand, climbing up swiftly. Without Rogers' physical strength and climbing skills, Fury had no choice but to climb the stairs normally. Soon, Rogers had left Fury behind.
Fury knew that with just him and Rogers, they had no chance of stopping Magneto if he was going berserk.
"Hill!"
Fury called Maria Hill and said, "Deploy the fighter jets immediately! All missiles should be aimed at Magneto's location."
Hill's expression changed instantly as she received the call. "Sir! Are you suggesting...?"
"We have no other choice. If Magneto goes on a rampage, the entire city of New York is at risk. Sacrificing Thirteenth Street to save New York City is worth it."
Fury's face was resolute. "It's worth it!"
Hill's expression shifted before she replied, "But you and the Captain are also in that area…"
"I'll handle the rest. Your job now is to follow my orders!"
"Understood, sir!"
Fury panted as he glanced at Rogers, who was climbing higher and higher. No matter what, Rogers must not find out that Fury gave the order to sacrifice Thirteenth Street. If he did, it would create an unbridgeable rift between them.
"Magneto... Emperor…"
"You two bastards..."

The intense disturbance around them made Alan realize that Magneto, the extremist, was ready to fight to the death at any moment. If a battle broke out in the room, the entire building might be lifted by Magneto.
The next moment, Alan felt a powerful force surrounding him, pulling at him with immense strength.
"Emperor, you'll regret wearing that armor!" Magneto, hands outstretched toward Alan, made a tearing motion as if trying to rip something apart. He aimed to use his magnetic powers to tear apart Alan's Emperor Armor.
Alan saw through Magneto's intentions and smirked coldly. Did this guy really think the Emperor Armor was made of metal? The Emperor Armor was the materialization of the power of the Five Elements, essentially a pure energy form that covered his entire body.
Magneto's magnetic powers might work against Iron Man's Mark armors, but trying to deal with the Emperor Armor was a fool's dream.
Though Magneto's magnetic abilities couldn't affect the Emperor Armor, Alan wasn't going to let him continue causing chaos in the room.
"This space is too small. Let's change the venue, Magneto!"
Magneto, still using his powers to try and tear apart Alan, was stunned to see Alan casually talking to him. His face was filled with disbelief. "You… how are you unharmed?"
Alan didn't bother explaining. With a single step, he was in front of Magneto and punched him in the abdomen. Magneto, startled, immediately used his magnetic powers to form a defensive barrier over his abdomen.
However, the powerful recoil still sent Magneto flying, crashing heavily onto the balcony. Alan glanced at Mystique, who was now incapacitated, and then shifted his gaze to the door.
A strong, blond figure burst through the door and stepped into the room. Seeing this person, Alan no longer worried about Anna's safety and pursued Magneto.
Rogers had just stepped into the room when he saw a burst of golden light fly out from the balcony. The entire room was in shambles.
"Where is everyone…?"
