I found myself once again face-to-face with Kairan, standing alone with him in the training field. The sun was setting, casting a warm golden glow over everything. It would have been a beautiful, serene scene if not for the fact that my heart was pounding out of my chest.
Kairan was dressed in a loose poet shirt, high- waisted pants, and black boots that shone brighter than my grim fate. He wore that infuriatingly confident smirk, the kind that said he knew exactly how much he intimidated me- and he enjoyed it.
"You know," he drawled, casually rolling up his sleeves, "If you're going to keep training with me, you're going to have to move a bit faster."
I glared at him, feeling a flush of heat of my cheeks. "I am moving fast!"
He tilted his head, raising an eyebrow. "Really? Because from where I'm standing, it looks more like you're in slow motion."
