Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: As Long As I Am Here, She Won't Die

Seven Tower, 88th Floor.

Angelina, with her striking beauty and air of elegance, sat in front of the TV, watching the news. On the screen, a blue streak crashed into a parking lot, sending a four-armed monster flying.

The camera then cut to a blonde woman standing at the scene.

"Did everyone see that?" the reporter asked excitedly.

"I'm reporting live from the Walmart parking lot, where a hostage situation has just been resolved by Homelander and Queen Maeve."

"But now, a new development has emerged—some kind of monster has appeared and is currently battling Homelander."

Another round of gasps erupted on screen as Homelander, previously wrapped in electrical cables like a mummy, blasted his way free with his laser vision.

Angelina's eyes sparkled as she whispered under her breath, "Master, you're incredible."

At that moment, the phone on her desk rang.

It was Edgar, the CEO, calling for her. Reluctantly, Angelina picked up a stack of documents and left her office, glancing back at the TV as the broadcast ended. Disappointment flickered across her face before she carried the files toward the copy room.

Inside the copy room, everything was quiet. Following Edgar's instructions, Angelina carefully photocopied the documents, making three sets.

"All thanks to Master's recommendation," she thought, a sense of purpose swelling within her. "Without him, I wouldn't be here, working as Edgar's assistant, learning how to manage a corporation."

Her hands paused for a moment.

"But when will Master help me take revenge?"

The thought of revenge ignited a simmering rage in her eyes.

Unbeknownst to her, a viscous black liquid began to seep through the ventilation grates above her. The liquid silently dripped to the floor, pooling together until it rose up and morphed into the shape of a man wearing a long coat.

Without a sound, the figure crept behind Angelina, extending one hand toward her. His palm oozed more of the inky liquid, shaping into a sharp dagger.

In one swift motion, the man clamped a hand over Angelina's mouth and plunged the dagger into her soft flesh.

Before he could stab her again, the door to the copy room swung open. A horrified gasp echoed through the room as an employee stumbled upon the scene.

The assassin, without hesitation, abandoned Angelina and dashed toward the window. In a fluid motion, his body liquefied mid-leap, transforming into a black sludge that clung to the outer wall of Seven Tower.

Like a living river, the sludge flowed along the tower's surface, slipping into a window on the 83rd floor.

Moments later, on a street behind the tower, a sewer grate lifted slightly as the same black liquid oozed out. It slithered beneath a parked black sedan before reshaping itself into the same man in the coat.

The man hurried down a nearby alley. Emerging onto a quiet street, he spotted a luxury car pulling up beside him. The door swung open, and the man climbed inside.

Inside the spacious car, a man wearing a ruby ring spoke in a low voice. "Is it done?"

The man in the coat nodded. "It's handled, Mr. O'Connor."

"I pierced Angelina's organs. She won't survive the night."

O'Connor snorted. "You should've killed her outright instead of just wounding her."

The assassin shrugged. "Does it matter? She's dead either way."

He glanced toward Seven Tower and sneered. "Besides, that place is crawling with Supes. Homelander could show up at any moment, and I'm not about to risk my life over money."

O'Connor tossed a briefcase toward the assassin. "Half the payment is in there. The rest comes when I get confirmation that she's dead by tomorrow."

The liquid assassin partially liquefied, absorbing the briefcase into his body, before slipping out of the car at the next intersection.

As the door closed behind him, O'Connor cast a smug glance at Seven Tower in the distance.

"You think hiding in Seven Tower will save you, Angelina?" he muttered, grinning maliciously.

"Let's see how long you last."

---

Just then, far above the city, a blue streak cut through the sky. Homelander flew toward Seven Tower, carrying Maeve in his arms.

He smiled down at her. "How about we head to my room? You look like you could use some rest."

Maeve chuckled weakly. "Something tells me I wouldn't be the only one in that bed."

"Come on, Maeve," Homelander teased, shaking his head. "Don't underestimate me like that. I wouldn't take advantage of you."

"And besides, even if I wanted to, do you really think you could stop me?"

Maeve smirked, her voice laced with defiance. "I'd fight back."

"That," Homelander said with a sly grin, "would just make it more exciting."

Before Maeve could respond, the sound of ambulance sirens reached their ears. The emergency vehicles were pulling up to the entrance of Seven Tower.

"What's going on?" Homelander wondered aloud.

He soared straight into the command room, placing Maeve gently onto a chair. "Ashley," he called out, summoning his assistant.

"Thank god you're back, Homelander!" Ashley rushed over. "Angelina was attacked—she's in critical condition."

A flicker of annoyance crossed Homelander's face.

Losing such a useful pawn would be a waste. Without hesitation, he flew out of the room, heading after the ambulance already en route to the hospital.

While flying, he opened the shop interface in his vision but ignored the new items. He immediately spent 50 proficiency essences to purchase an [NK Gene Modification Serum – Enhanced Version].

Seconds later, he descended onto the street, landing directly in front of the ambulance. He raised a hand, signaling the driver to stop.

"That's Homelander!"

"Why is he stopping the ambulance?"

Bystanders stared in confusion, many of them pulling out their phones to record the scene.

Inside a nearby parked car, a man in a hat suddenly sat up, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

"I smell a story," he whispered. "Missed the Walmart scoop, but this? This could be gold."

The man quickly launched a livestream on his phone and sprinted toward the scene.

Meanwhile, the ambulance came to a screeching halt, stopping just inches from Homelander's outstretched hand.

The door swung open, and a bewildered doctor stepped out. "Homelander, what are you doing?"

"Angelina's in there, isn't she?" Homelander asked, though he had already scanned the vehicle with his laser vision. He saw her lying on a stretcher, hooked up to a ventilator.

Without waiting for a response, he grabbed the ambulance door and ripped it clean off.

The nurses inside screamed, backing away in shock.

"Stop!" the doctor shouted. "She's in critical condition—she needs immediate treatment at the hospital!"

Homelander flashed a calm smile. "As long as I'm here, she won't die."
