Chapter 35 - The Governor's Death

The governor ignored what Savra had said and immediately burst into anger as he looked at Lucius.

"I won't rest until that boy is dead!" The governor roared as he pointed his finger at Lucius, who stood calmly.

Without hesitation, the governor summoned another Wind Lynx and immediately ordered it. "Kill him!"

Liora immediately went to intercept the Wind Lynx. "How dare you try to harm my master!"

Savra, who was watching from her seat, began to become angry as she stood. "Governor, this is enough..."

But before she could act, Lucius raised his hand and stopped her. He smirked as he said. "Don't trouble yourself, Lady Savra. I'll handle this."

Savra looked at Lucius. "You're confident she can handle it?"

Lucius smirked after being asked and soon turned toward Liora and called her. Liora then turned toward him.

Lucius smirked as he raised his hand and ran it across his neck and Liora immediately smirked as she understood the command.

Lucius then turned to Savra again. "Don't worry. Liora is far stronger than you think."

Lucius smirked as he already scanned the Wind Lynx's data.

---

---

Lucius looked at the data and smiled as Liora's status was way stronger as her stats were 2-Star C-Tier, which was stronger than the Wind Lynx Stats.

The Wind Lynx soon attacked. It used Gale Leap to close the distance with Lucius with its speed.

Its claws also began to glow green as it was about to unleash its skill, Wind Slash, aiming it directly at Lucius.

But before the attack could land, Liora moved. Her claws began to shine as she used her Lunar Claws to intercept the Wind Lynx's attack.

Liora was stronger than it so she easily countered it and only used three strikes to end it.

The beast soon let out a sharp cry before collapsing to the floor, and its blood began to flow out of its body.

"No... no! Impossible!" He said. "A 2-Star beast killing a 3-Star? How?"

Lucius only chuckled as he stepped forward and said with mockery, "You are a governor because Volcaria allowed you to be it but now you have forgotten your place so it is time for you to be gone."

The governor's face turned red with fury, but before he could speak, Lucius turned to Liora and gave a simple command. "Liora. Do it."

The governor's eyes widened in terror, and he dropped to his knees. "Wait! Please! I beg for your forgiveness! I was wrong."

But Liora was already moving. Her Lunar Claws had glowed as she used them to kill the governor in a single decisive strike.

The young master was surprised after seeing the incident and immediately screamed at Lucius. "You... you monster! I'll kill you for this!""

Lucius raised an eyebrow. "You? You couldn't even protect yourself yesterday. What makes you think you're a threat to me?"

Before the young master could respond, Liora moved again, her claw slicing cleanly through his chest. He collapsed with a gasp, his lifeless body joining his father's on the bloodstained floor.

Liora then went back to Lucius as she kneeled down. "It's done, Master."

Savra, who had been watching intently, stepped forward. "Impressive, didn't think a 2-Star could kill a 3-Star so easily."

Lucius only chuckled. "Liora isn't just any 2-Star. She is my own 2-Star."

Savra only smiled. "I see, so why did you kill them?"

Lucius turned to her. "People like them are dangerous, Lady Savra. They bite the hand that feeds them. It's better to remove them before they can cause more trouble."

Savra raised an eyebrow. "And their city? Without a governor, it will descend into chaos."

Lucius shrugged. "Appoint one of his advisors. I doubt the man did any real work as governor, judging by his... physical state. The people will be glad to see him gone."

Savra chuckled, shaking her head. "You're ruthless, Lucius, but I need to admit that it is efficient."

Lucius bowed slightly. "Efficiency is the key to power, Lady Savra. And power is what keeps us in control."

The hall fell silent once more, the bodies of the governor and his son lying in the pool of their own blood.

Daxton also directly went to the city and immediately gathered the governor's advisors in a room.

Daxton wasted no time. "Gentlemen, I bring news from the Volcaria family. The governor and his son are no more."

The advisors were shocked and one of them asked. "What? The governor... dead? How did this happen?"

Daxton immediately explained it. "The governor acted recklessly and insulted the Volcaria family. His actions were met with consequences.

Daxton also then said. "However, this is also an opportunity for one of you to step forward. The Volcaria family will support the appointment of a new governor from among you."

The advisors who heard it immediately glanced at one another, each calculating their chances. "So, one of us will become a new governor?"

Daxton nodded. "Yes. The Volcaria family values order and prosperity. A competent leader will be chosen to ensure stability."

The advisors exchanged knowing glances. They were careful not to show too much eagerness, but still, their excitement could still be seen.

The former governor had ruled with arrogance and greed, and his death rather than being grieved seemed like a freedom.

The city itself also responded similarly. As news spread of the governor's death, the people around were not grieving but instead they celebrated it.

The governor's corruption and negligence had long been a burden, and his absence was a welcome change.

Back at the Volcaria estate, Savra looked at Lucius and said, "It seems your prediction was correct. The city is celebrating his death rather than mourning it."

Lucius chuckled. "People often hide their true feelings, but when the tyrant falls, their joy is impossible to mask. All they needed was a push."

Savra smiled as she approved him. "You've proven yourself to be far more than I anticipated, Lucius. Efficient, ruthless, and... clever."

Lucius then bowed slightly. "High praise, coming from you, Lady Savra. I merely did what was necessary. Weakness is a disease, and the governor was riddled with it."

Savra only chuckled, "Indeed. But tomorrow, your focus must shift. The academy awaits you. Are you ready for the challenges it will bring?"

Lucius only smirked. "Of course, I'm ready. Challenges are nothing more than opportunities in disguise. And besides, I doubt anyone there will surprise me."

Savra's smile deepened. "Confidence suits you, Lucius. But don't underestimate the academy. It has its own politics and its own dangers."

"I wouldn't have it any other way," Lucius replied.

Lucius then also looked around and asked. "And also, I am quite curious. Where is Magnus? Shouldn't he be accompanying me?"

Savra then smirked as she said. "Magnus is training with his father, Ragnar."

Lucius chuckled lightly. "Training with Ragnar, is he? Then I can only assume he's enduring quite the ordeal. I'll look forward to seeing the results."

Savra was amused as she glanced at him. "And I'll look forward to hearing how you fare at the academy. Make no mistake, Lucius. You carry the Volcaria name now. Your actions reflect on all of us."

Lucius bowed his head slightly. "Then I'll ensure our name rises even higher, Lady Savra." The two then stood in silence for a moment.
