Most people including ourselves live in a world of relative ignorance , we are even comfortable with said ignorance because it is all we know. When we start facing truth the process may be frightening and many people run back to their old lives but if you continue to seek the truth eventually you would be able to handle it better, in fact you want more. It is true that many people around you might think that you are a danger to society but you don't care, once you've tasted the truth you wont want to go back to being ignorant.
Daniel was an accountant for one of the most powerful groups in his country , he was recruited during his third year in college and has worked for the company for over fifteen years ,and during which he has never even gotten a write up or complaint . He always followed a rule of observe and don't speak unless spoken to. This was how he lived , he even followed the code of not harming anyone and apologising even when he did nothing wrong in order to avoid conflict which made him look like a pushover when in fact he was not. Physically , he was fit , he was not a social bee but made it a point to go out atleast once a week and he could speak over twelve languages. In all things he could say that he had a perfect life , he was not overly rich but he was among the low upper class. But as all humans become in a state of satisfaction , he became complacent and relaxed.
On a particular Monday morning while going through the company's account he came across an issue ,someone had been skimming funds from the company account and into a direct account . 'is this a joke?' Daniel thought surprised. Why was surprised one might ask , it was because the person did not even try hiding the fact that they were stealing. It didn't take long for him to find the culprit , it was the personel director , a nepo-baby who had never worked a day in her life who maybe because it was trendy for women to be known as "boss ladies" even when they couldn't do the work.
Instead of stressing himself over what could be fixed in a short amount of time he continued more important work.
At about 3pm he went to the chief accountant's office to report the issue with the embezzlement bringing a detailed report as evidence .
"Is this for real?" The chief asked flipping through the report
"Exactly my thoughts,it looks like a joke " Daniel sighed.
"If this is gets out then the director of personnel could be charged with embezzlement and serve jail time, just go I'll get back to you when I've met with the CEO and discussed the next steps " the chief said waving him off.
Daniel went about his business not paying mind to what happened in his mind he has already done his part.
In about a week he was called in for a private meeting with the CEO. When he arrived he was shocked to find not only the CEO but his daughter the director of personnel (that's why I said that she was a nepo baby). The chief accountant was also there .
"Young man I've been made aware of your findings I must say that you've done a stellar job" said the CEO then gestured at the director and continued " I've spoken to my daughter here and made her see the error in her ways and she has promised not to repeat such actions ever again."
David already realizing that there was nothing he could do nothing about the situation sighed inwardly. " There's no problem sir I respect your decision. If there's nothing more I would like to get back to my remaining tasks. David said, trying to hard not to blurt out what was really on his mind.
"Ah there would be no need . You should clear out your office we are letting you go, you're not really doing anything much for the accounts department we have plenty of accountants that can easily do your job. The CEO said nonchalantly.
David turned to look at the chief accountant who turned away in embarrassment clearly they were doing this to prevent any news of the scandal of leaking.
"So your daughter steals more than $30 million and she doesn't even get as much as a scolding but I'm the one being punished, so you think that there won't be consequences for your actions or do you think that i am stupid enough to take this lying down " i replied seething with anger . The next thing Daniel heard was the sound of something shredding, it was the report that highlighted the embezzlement being destroyed by the director who had a shit eating grin on her face.
Everywhere was so silent that one could hear his heartbeat. After trying to calm himself by thinking 'if they are going to play it this way, I wonder what the shareholders would pay for the information '.
"What did you just say?!" The CEO jumped of his seat visibly stressed "you made copies of the report?"
Daniel was now thinking how did someone so emotional unregulated become the CEO of a billion dollar company. " No I don't have any copies of the report" he replied.
But the people in the room were not buying it but let him go . By the time Daniel reached his office, members of the security team were there searching through everything. It was obvious that they were there because of the report. 'it was a good thing that I took it home in time ' Daniel then left without even getting his things from the office because staying there might be more dangerous . He slipped out from the service stairwell and made his way to the parking lot the got into his car and drove off.
When he got home he headed straight for an inwall safe in his closet where he retrieved his go bag containing about three hundred thousand dollars , his passport and a Glock 45 and two extra clips. He got the idea for the go bag from one of his friends who was a government specialized operator and although guns were illegal in the country there was nothing that a little money couldn't do.
As he was going downstairs he heard someone open his door 'oh shit they were faster than I thought ' Daniel then brings out the phone to check the security system there were about six guys in the house all holding baseball bats and steel pipes .
One of the men who sounded like the leader shouted out "Mr Daniel please come down or should we come up to get you?"
Daniel then went downstairs to meet with them " so this should be about the file that I took, here it is" Daniel said throwing the file to them .
"I wish everyone was as smart as you Mr Daniel but it's too late you're coming with ....." BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! , six distinct shot rang out before he could even continue speaking Daniel had shot the assailants.
He wasted no time picking up the file and his bag he ran out of the house got in the car and drove off , he was going to get at least two states away from his position and maybe he could start over. Unbeknownst to him one of the assistants survived his gunshot wounds and called it in . The CEO then used his connections to organize a police manhunt for Daniel.
After some hours Daniel was almost at the state border when he was stopped at a police checkpoint, the officer asked for his license and registration and without suspecting anything he gave it to them. When the police officer confirmed that it was Daniel that they were looking for they asked him to step out of the vehicle which he complied but Daniel forgot that he had a gun on him so when he came out of the car and officer saw the gun stock he panicked and shot Daniel in the head killing him on the spot.
