"Why can't you?" Ace asked, his deep voice sending chills down Veronica's spine as he gazed into her eyes.
Veronica, now standing between Ace's arms, was stunned by his beauty. She blinked, looking at him as if there were no tomorrow. (Oh, good, this is so fake. Is he real? He's so, so handsome,) Veronica thought to herself.
Ace, waiting for her response, grew tired. His icy cold eyes and aura surrounding him changed, and he said, "Stop staring at me, or else... you'll fall in love with me."
Veronica snapped out of her reverie, quickly responding, "I don't know, maybe..."
Her words came out in a whisper, now that she stood between Ace and the wall behind her, his hand resting on the wall.
Listening to her, Ace's eyes narrowed, but he didn't say a word, continuing to gaze at her.
"Maybe I already fell in love with you," Veronica said, a small blush on her face.
Ace's eyes narrowed further surprised at what she said, and he took a step backward, his calm face adding to his charm.
Veronica, hoping for a positive response, looked at him with anticipation.
"I have a girlfriend," Ace said, walking away from Veronica, leaving her standing there, stunned.
Veronica's eyes widened, but in a second, they returned to normal. She thought it was normal for a handsome young man like him to have a girlfriend.
However, deep in her heart, she hoped she could be his girlfriend, or maybe even make him hers, just hers. (I will make you mine, even if you have a girlfriend or not. You will be mine,) Veronica thought to herself, following Ace from behind, observing him.
"You have a girlfriend," Veronica asked, quickening her pace to walk beside him.
"Yes, and she's beautiful, far more than you. So, don't think of making me yours, because I'm already hers," Ace said bluntly, without considering whether his words would hurt her or not.
He believed she had brought it upon herself, claiming to love him after just meeting him, without spending time together or knowing each other.
As they stood in the garden, Veronica watched Ace from the side, her mouth agape at his words. She quickly composed herself and turned to admire the flowers. "Oh, so she's beautiful," Veronica said, nodding her head in understanding, while inside, her heart burned with envy.
"Hmm," Ace hummed, nodding his head.
Meanwhile, back inside the party hall, Tom and his wife, Carrel, sat chatting with each other as they observed the guests around them. "Hope you're enjoying yourselves. Sorry I wasn't there to take care of some guests," Mr. Lewis said, dragging a chair over and sitting down.
"Sure, we're enjoying ourselves quite well, aren't we, Carrel?" Tom asked his wife with a smile.
"Yes, of course. Where's your wife? I didn't see her," Carrel asked, wanting to chat with another woman.
"Ah, I think she's receiving some guests. Let me look for her," Mr. Lewis said with a friendly smile.
"No, there's no problem. You don't have to look for her," Carrel said, stopping Mr. Lewis from standing up.
"Ah, there she is. Let me call her for you," Mr. Lewis said, spotting his wife across the room.
"Camila!" Mr. Lewis called out loudly.
Camila made her way over to their table. "Husband, you called me?"
"Yes, here's Mrs. Steve. She doesn't want to chat with just men and wants a woman," Mr. Lewis said with a small smile.
"Oh, my, that's nice. Let's chat then, and forget about the men," Camila said, turning her seat around to face Carrel.
"Sure, yeah, that's it," Carrel said, also turning her seat around to face Camila, and they began chatting about their daily lives, ignoring their husbands.
Both Tom and Mr. Lewis watched in awe, their mouths agape, as they observed their wives chatting.
Minutes passed, and the women continued chatting. Slowly, they started conversing with their husbands, and amidst the conversation, Mr. Lewis asked, "Who also called Markus asked, as it's been a while without Ace or Alexander joining them at the table."
Hearing her husband, Camila also remembered something. "That reminds me; I was also looking for Veronica, but I don't know where she went to," Camila said, ending her sentence with a small frown.
Tom made an explanation. "Alexander wanted to talk to some businessmen here, so he left. While Ace wanted to take a stroll outside the hall, as it was boring for him, so I asked Veronica to show him around."
"Oh," both Mr. Lewis and his wife said in unison, looking at each other with a knowing glance, and they nodded.
Carrel noticed their reaction. "It's not what you're thinking of."
"What?" Camila asked, tilting her head in confusion.
"I think you both are thinking of something about the children, aren't you?" Carrel asked with a friendly smile.
Mr. Lewis and his wife had indeed discussed the possibility of arranging a marriage between Ace and Veronica, noticing how swept off her feet Veronica was when she laid eyes on Ace.
"Yes," Camila said, thinking that maybe Carrel had the same idea in mind.
