Chapter 42 - Shadows 2

The scene unfolded as Jingwei soared through the air, his flowing coat rippling behind him like a dark flame. His focus was razor-sharp, and his eyes, imbued with the All-Seeing ability, locked onto the two figures perched atop the towering building—Viper and Shade. They were unmoving, their forms shadowed against the bright sky, but Jingwei knew better than to underestimate them. As he flew forward.

Viper, ever the opportunist, noticed the approaching threat and smirked. Without hesitation, he raised his sleek, black firearm—an elegant weapon enhanced with a thermal-tracking system that glowed faintly red. "Not so fast, commander," Viper muttered under his breath before firing a rapid sequence of five precise shots. The bullets tore through the air, streaks of energy-laced metal destined for Jingwei.

Jingwei's All-Seeing ability flared to life, his vision expanding in fractions of a second. In near-death clarity, the trajectory of each bullet appeared before him like glowing threads. He twisted midair, narrowly dodging the first shot, his body contorting with impossible precision. The second and third bullets whizzed past his face, missing him by mere inches. The fourth grazed his sleeve, while the fifth passed harmlessly through his wake. Jingwei pushed forward, unyielding.

In an instant, Jingwei closed the gap and used the momentum of his flight to deliver a devastating flying kick. His leg connected squarely with Viper's chest, sending him careening backward with the force of a cannon. Viper's body smashed through the air like a projectile, his weapon tumbling from his hand. The shockwave from the kick shook the rooftop, and Shade, quick to react, dissolved into a faint puff of smoke just as Jingwei's hand reached for him.

Shade's Void Step ability activated, allowing him to vanish and reappear in an instant. He reappeared several feet behind the airborne Viper, his hands outstretched. With practiced ease, Shade caught his falling comrade, using his momentum to redirect the impact against a nearby wall. The two hit with a resounding thud, but Shade's swift intervention had mitigated the worst of the damage. Viper coughed but quickly found his footing, his eyes burning with anger and resolve.

Jingwei hovered a few feet away, his body poised and ready for another strike. His expression was calm but menacing, his voice cold as he spoke. "You dare bring your chaos to the Free World? As commander of the Sentinels, I will see that you are brought to justice. Your crimes will not go unpunished."

Viper, still catching his breath, straightened and dusted off his coat, a mocking smile forming on his lips. "Justice, you say? Tell me, Commander Jingwei, what of your crimes? Or have you conveniently forgotten them?" His laugh echoed through the air, sharp and venomous.

Shade stood silently beside him, his hands relaxed but his stance defensive, his eyes darting between Jingwei and the surrounding area. The faint smoke of his last teleport lingered in the air, a subtle reminder of his elusive power.

Jingwei's eyes narrowed at Viper's taunt, but he remained composed, the tension between them palpable as the air seemed to crackle with energy.
