Chapter 1 - A wish

If you had one wish what would it be, in my case it might be immortality but that seems too bland, then maybe being able to live in a fantasy world yes that's better but is there a better wish?

I am a high school student in 11th grade I get good grades so I don't really worry about studying instead I play DnD with my friends, or to be more accurate they play it and I make the story. I played 2 games as a player but then started DMing, how many was it 1, 2, 3, ... 5 it was 5 campaigns, the first three were normal DnD, but from the fourth one I made my own world with it's own rules and magic it was fun. The rest of the time when I am not thinking of DnD I read it's fantasy always fantasy.

"Why can't I still sleep it's already 0:23, ahh dammit. Sleeeep!"

When I thought I had finally fallen asleep I heard a voice. I thought I was dreaming but it would not be so dark that I could see nothing not even the shade of closed eyes was as dark. The voice that came from the void resounded loudly it wasn't hard to understand it was perfectly clear.

"If you had one wish what would it be?"

"To sleep already!"

No where am I? Who is the voice? Why is everything black? And... a wish?

"Is that the Truth, what is it really we both know your true answer already."

"Who are you?"

"That doesn't concern you yet. The only thing to concern yourself with is your answer."

"Doesn't concern me what do you mean?"

The silence grew heavier, as if the darkness itself demanded my response.

"Ahh dammit. So, what do you want?"

"I want you to tell me a wish I will tell you the drawbacks so no need to worry, you will know exactly what you are asking for."

"drawbacks?"

"Yes drawbacks but you will know them so it should be fine right?"

"If I say immortality will you leave me alone?"

"Is that really your wish?"

"N-no"

"Then what?"

"Uhh I don't know alright."

"It's fine" the voice said, patient and almost indulgent. "You'll figure it out. You always do."

Any wish. What would be the most useful, no what do I want the most? Immortality was too simple and magic is the same. I need something absolute.

"I want to understand everything. The truth of the world." I said finally.

"The truth you say what if I said it was only of this world but you would be somewhere else? Would that still be your wish?"

"I guess, what do you mean somewhere else?"

"You already know the answer to that."

"Do you mean a different planet?"

"Don't ask stupid questions you know what I mean. I know you will agree so I will grant the wish. You have no objections right?"

"Yes I would wish nothing more." I thought I was certain but my body shivered as I delivered my thoughts.

"Farewell until we meet again... somewhere else, somewhen else and someone else."

I was left with these final words as the darkness disappeared. I could feel my bed beneath me again, the weight of the blanket and the warmth of home.

Then something changed.

My hand felt weightless or rather, I didn't feel it at all. I pulled back the blanket, and my hand was gone, replaced by curling wisps of black mist. I could still move my fingers, but they weren't here. They were back there in the void where nothing existed, not even gravity.

The darkness spread, unraveling me piece by piece. When it reached my eyes, I braced for nothingness. But instead, the night turned to day, and light blinded me.

When I could see again, I stood in a lush forest. It didn't feel special at first glance, but something about it… felt magical, alive. Mysteries I couldn't yet fathom hid within.
