Chapter 0: prologue

In the deepest depths of night, darkness laying a blanket over all and moonlight giving a path by emitting and lighting yet it still wasn't sufficient. The silence filled the forest, only the sound of wind howling broke through the fragile quietness, it seemed as though quiet whispers were exchanged among the spirits as they lurked the forest.

The sound of leaves crinkling was heard followed by a deep grunt, as the man seemingly felt around his surroundings; he shuffled as he struggled to get up. Soon the sound of the crane tapping on the ground was heard. A man walking carefully was seen through the shadows. The man walked in a proper manner, but one of his legs rather seemed to struggle in supporting the man. It sat down on a huge rock by support of its cane. After a moment of silence, he sighed and spoke, "Your efforts of hiding are quite useless." There was silence again, and it seemed as if he was conversing with the spirits of the forest.

He spoke again in a confronting tone "You gave your hiding spot away long ago, you breathe too fast and your heart beats even faster. Get down from the tree." As he said this, a dark figure climbed down from a tree, he shot the figure a glance taking in the details, he concluded it was a young girl and she seemed to be nervous as she scratched the back of her neck. She treaded closer to the man, and moonlight brought light to her appearance and his conclusion was indeed true, it was a young girl with short hair and freckles all over her "I do not know why you are bothering to hide; you are the one who summoned me." He said blandly, his expression stated clear annoyance.

The girl displayed an expression of somewhat an attempt at a resting face but her eyes showed a clear glimmer of admiration. She smiled in a polite manner as she introduced herself, "I am Rain, and oh my have I heard many many tales about you- and seeing you in person is quite different from the stories I heard...anyways! I respect you a lot lord-" she felt strange calling somebody 'lord', and she was about to continue her rant but was interrupted by the man,

"Skip the formality, and about the tales you speak of… I do not expect them to have had been pleasant. It is very clear I am not exactly the hero people will speak of as a bedtime story, so be clear dear. Why have you summoned me here?" he shot her a suspicious look, still looking refined even with the bright pink scar on his right eye that was shining even through the darkness. The girl stood there not knowing how to explain her situation. After quite a bit amount of silence he said "I know how much sacrifice it takes for one to summon the dead to the world of living... do not be shy, I expect something major."

She nodded and then began to explain her situation, "I am a necromancer, I summon beasts and demon back from the dead, or I can also summon spirits and ghosts of people in exchange for different things like... favors for the underworld. Mainly I manage to negotiate with demons of higher positions. Anyways, back to the point, my work needs sacrifices and sometimes even the sacrifice of lives, and naturally…The cultivation world is against it as it is highly risky. But it is my gift… and I am utilizing it to make a living. And naturally… I have many enemies and many wannabe heroes or group leaders that stand against my powers. One day, I summoned the spirit of a general who revealed some stuff that tainted one of the group's reputations… And that started a manhunt looking for me. I was scared and had no other choice, so I summoned a woe claw..."

She went silent, scanning his reaction, as she looked at him a shift of moon bought light to his face, and she could see his deep set eyebrows furrow. "And I suppose… it was the same woe claw I sealed..." the man said as girl looked down to the floor lowering her gaze "I stand corrected." He got up from the stone, the girl quickly spoke, "Lord please, there is no way to defeat it and-and I thought I could defeat it but… I was wrong" there was a slight crack in the girl's voice. "It got out of my control… it greatly injured my little brother, I don't know what to do… you were the only one who could defeat it. It's still out there- please." The girl's voice dropped as low as a whisper, the man turned around to face her "I am willing to help you. Ah... history just repeats itself again. Right now… my power is very weak and unstable. Take me to a quiet place. The monster is dumb, and it gets smarter. But as for now… it may take a few days for it to be considered a threat. Do not worry." He said in a reassuring tone. The girl had a glimmer of hope in her eyes "is there any way this lord knows how to get my brother healed?" she asked "Indeed. First of all… isolate the area, evacuate it. Any person sentences with death let them meet their fate. The monster still needs something to entertain. As for your brother, he will get better as soon as he is further away from the monster, he would just need to compose his energy and rest. The monster leaches off negative emotions." He explained, his voice was as dark as coal.

As they walked through the forest, moonlight brought light to more of his features. He had a piercing blue eye as bright as the morning sky, sharp as ice shards, while the other eye was completely different, one could say out of place…There was a bright pink tear scar beneath it, and the eye was bright pink with a shrunken pupil that made it look almost unsettling, and the girl couldn't help but stare. As her gaze fell on that eye for quite a time, she got goosebumps. It gave her the creeps. The man's hair was a very dark color of crimson that looked almost black dyed with blood.
