"Hurt? Aren't you a rubber man? How does a punch even hurt you?" Sanji asked, surprised.
"Heh, love punches can't be blocked!" Garp chuckled, taking off his dog-head hat and grinning at Luffy.
Luffy, who had been knocked to his senses by Garp's punch, looked up in terror, exclaiming, "Grandpa?!"
As soon as he said it, everyone in the room, including the Marines with Garp and the rest of the Straw Hats, was stunned.
"What? This old man is Luffy's grandfather? And he's your teacher too, Ryu? And he's with the Marines?" Sanji and Nami looked at Garp, too shocked to believe it.
"Kid, you've made quite the mess, haven't you? Looks like you have a lot to answer for," Garp said casually, standing over Luffy.
"Luffy, is he really your grandpa?" Sanji asked, still not fully convinced.
"Yeah, and don't try to fight him—he'd kill you!" Luffy replied, sitting on the floor with lingering fear. "I've nearly died countless times because of him!"
"Hey! Don't make it sound so awful! I'm your grandpa, after all!" Garp said, looking at Luffy in irritation. "Throwing you off cliffs, sending you into forests at night, tying you to balloons to float into the sky—that was all to make you into a fine Marine!"
As Garp spoke, he even seemed a little moved by his own efforts. But to his deep frustration, his beloved grandson had still ended up becoming a pirate.
Everyone else in the room shivered, hearing how Garp had treated Luffy. Sanji muttered, "Now I see where Luffy's insane resilience comes from."
"I've always said I want to be a pirate!" Luffy shouted, finally standing up to protest, especially when talking about his dream.
"What? You dare argue back? I see Shanks has corrupted you!" Garp roared.
"Shanks? Shanks saved my life, and I won't let you say anything bad about him!" Luffy shouted back angrily at Garp's criticism.
"Shanks? You mean the great pirate Red-Haired Shanks?" Robin asked, surprised.
"Yes. That hat of Luffy's was a gift from Shanks, and he cherishes it," Nami said, nodding in confirmation.
"Brat, you dare tell your grandpa what to say? Looks like you need a lesson!" Garp grabbed Luffy by his collar, and Luffy had no way to resist.
"Oh no, Luffy's been caught by a Marine! He can't fight back at all!" Chopper said, worried.
"Well, it is his grandpa, after all, so maybe this is just how they are," Sanji said, feeling the situation was a mess but unsure how to help.
"Huff… Huff…"
Just as everyone was stressing about what to do, the two arguing grandpa and grandson suddenly fell asleep simultaneously.
"They fell asleep? What do we do now?"
"This is unbelievable… falling asleep while arguing? How does that even happen?"
"I have no idea. I've never seen anything like it."
The Straw Hats all looked at each other, feeling awkward and unsure of what to do as they watched the two sleep.
"Hey, everyone! How've you been these past few days?" Just then, Ryu walked in from outside.
"Ryu!" Nami and the others called out joyfully.
With Ryu around, at least they could communicate. They were still figuring out how to handle Luffy's grandpa, who seemed beyond them. Besides, they all knew that without Ryu's help, escaping from Enies Lobby would have been impossible; Aokiji alone, not to mention the other Vice Admirals, would've been more than enough to wipe them out.
"Don't worry. Teacher won't actually harm Luffy," Ryu said with a smile.
"So your teacher is really Luffy's grandpa? And he's a Marine officer?" Sanji said, exhaling a cloud of smoke, still not fully processing it.
"Yep. Don't be fooled by how he looks—Teacher is incredibly strong. He'd have no problem going toe-to-toe with Aokiji," Ryu said, nodding.
Everyone paused in shock. Aokiji was an admiral, and there wasn't an admiral named Garp.
"Wait… Garp? You mean the Marine Hero? But why would he be Luffy's grandfather?" Nami suddenly remembered something and asked, surprised.
(TL: He humped Luffy's granma then granma gave birth to Luffys mom n dad, thats how)
"Marine Hero? I've heard of him. Supposedly, he's a legendary Marine with immense strength," Franky added seriously.
"Exactly. My teacher is Vice Admiral Garp, known as the Marine Hero. For his own reasons, he's refused promotion to admiral many times, so he's still a Vice Admiral. But don't underestimate him just because of that, or it'll end badly," Ryu said with a smile.
"I must've dozed off! Luffy, you little punk, how dare you fall asleep while I'm scolding you!" Garp was the first to wake up, and seeing Luffy still sound asleep with a snot bubble, he immediately delivered another love punch.
But with Ryu here, the rest of the Straw Hats didn't bother getting involved with the bizarre duo.
Even as Luffy kept getting knocked around, he and Garp somehow resumed their argument right where they left off. Garp also shared some information about the New World, explaining the concept of the "Four Emperors" to the curious Straw Hats.
Just then, there was a commotion outside. Ryu turned to see Zoro holding two swords, clashing with a group of Marine soldiers.
"You two, go stop him," Garp said with a grin.
"Yes, sir!" Coby and Helmeppo replied, nodding.
In recent months, they'd trained hard with Ryu and had grown stronger. Plus, knowing Luffy, Garp had specifically brought them along to gain some experience.
"Teacher, they're probably still no match for that swordsman," Ryu said, a little helplessly.
"It's fine. Actual combat is the best training," Garp said, waving his hand.
As Ryu had predicted, despite their training, Coby and Helmeppo only managed to hold their own for a short time before being defeated by Luffy and Zoro in about ten moves.
"Hahaha, they didn't stand a chance! Ryu, you want to give it a shot?" Garp laughed heartily.
"I'll pass. Luffy still isn't a match for me yet. Maybe after he grows a bit more," Ryu replied with a grin.
He had no reason to join the fight yet. He'd wait until after the two-year mark when Luffy and the others would be ready for their bounties to soar. Right now, only Luffy's bounty had just topped one hundred million, and the new bounties hadn't spread widely yet.
