Chapter 13: Squad
...
After the vote, the bell rang, and our "squad" headed to the cafeteria.
Kirishima… somehow, and I still don't know how… convinced Bakugo to sit with us again.
Honestly, I don't know how he does it. I'm starting to think he's got some secret anti-explosion quirk or something. Or maybe he's just got a death wish.
Anyway, the rest of us were laughing and joking as usual while we ate, but Bakugo? The guy just sat there, glaring at his food like it owed him money.
Everything was chill until, out of nowhere, this blaring alarm went off. We all froze as a voice came over the loudspeaker:
"Warning. This is a Level 3 security breach. All students, please evacuate the building in an orderly manner"
Orderly? Yeah, right.
When that alarm went off, my brain short-circuited faster than when I overuse my quirk. Instantly, the cafeteria descended into total chaos.
Yep, the cafeteria turned into a stampede in seconds. Students were pushing and shoving like the floor was lava. People were running for the exits like it was the end of the world, and I tried to stick with my group, but we got separated in the madness.
I got completely separated from Ashido and Sero. It was just me and Kirishima now, trying not to get trampled by the crowd.
Bakugo, Ashido, and Sero were left behind, and I ended up in the middle of the crowd with Kirishima. I had no idea what was going on, but the crowd was completely out of control.
So… I tried to stick at least with Kirishima, but it was like a human whirlpool out there.
"Man, this is insane!" I shouted over the noise.
"No kidding!" Kirishima yelled back, grinning like he thought the chaos was a workout. Classic him.
And then, out of nowhere, we heard a loud voice. Looking up, we saw Iida… yes, Mr. Rule-Follower himself… standing on top of the exit sign like he was auditioning for a disaster movie.
"Listen up! Everything is fine!" he shouted, all dramatic-like.
We stopped. Everyone stopped and stared at him. I couldn't help but think, 'Man, this guy looks like the emergency exit signs come to life'
"It's just the media outside" he explained. "There's absolutely nothing to worry about. Everything is fine. We're UA students… we need to stay calm and show that we're the best of the best"
Hearing that, I felt my tension ease, and I exchanged a relieved look with Kirishima.
And you know what? It worked. People actually started calming down.
Eventually, everyone calmed down and headed back to their classes in peace.
….
….
Later in the classroom, Midoriya stood up nervously and said he had something to propose.
"There's something that I wanna say… I've thought a lot about this, and I think that Tenya Iida should be our class rep."
The room fell silent in surprise.
"He was able to capture everyone's attention and get us in line. So I believe that he should be the one leading our class from now on," Midoriya said with a lot more confidence than usual.
Kirishima raised his hand and said, "Yeah, y'know what? If Midoriya vouches for him, I'm good."
"Plus, he was a big help. He totally manned up and took charge, right?" Kirishima turned to me, clearly expecting me to chime in, even though we'd only known each other a few days. It already felt like we'd been friends for years.
"Yup," I replied with a grin. "Oh, did you notice he looked like the dude on the emergency exit signs when he was on the wall earlier?"
"This is a waste of time," Aizawa-sensei's voice came from his yellow sleeping bag.
"I don't care who the rep is. Just hurry up," he added before resuming his nap.
"..."
Iida immediately stood up, bowing formally.
"If Midoriya is nominating me for this job, then I humbly accept. I pledge to carry out the duties of class rep to the best of my abilities!"
"Sounds good, Emergency Exit!" Kirishima responded with the same enthusiasm.
"Emergency Exit Iida," I joked, and the whole class started laughing. "Don't let us down, man!"
The class continued joking around, clearly happy with their new class rep, until Aizawa reminded us we had important things to focus on. Yaoyorozu, and now Iida, quickly decided on the rest of the class officers.
...
…..
As the days went by, I started settling more into the dynamic of the hero class. Back at UA, we started having regular lessons, including ones like modern art, psychology, world history, physics, science, Japanese, philosophy, and even economics and calculus—which many of us dreaded. Myself included.
It's only been ten days since I started at UA, but it already feels like I know everyone. Yep, making friends has been easier than I expected.
What can I say? Making friends is kind of my thing, especially with Kirishima. He and I are the most energetic in the class, and we get along great. And Ashido too—we clicked right away because we're both extroverted and don't take life too seriously. At least, not as seriously as everyone else at UA.
Then there's Sero, a guy I've been hanging out with a lot lately. If I'm not with Kirishima, I'm usually with Sero. He's super chill, and we always end up cracking jokes or pulling harmless pranks together.
Of course, I also get along well with Mineta, Tokoyami, Jiro, Ojiro, Hagakure, and several others, but I spend most of my time with Ashido, Kirishima, and Sero.
Today, Kirishima and I walked into class together, chatting and laughing about random nonsense. Ashido and Sero soon joined us. Together, we've kind of formed this little "squad" that goes everywhere together. Kirishima's been trying to convince Bakugo to join us for a while now, though honestly, I have no idea why he keeps trying.
The school bell rang, signaling it was time for our heroics class.
We were in the middle of a conversation when Aizawa-sensei walked into the classroom and started speaking.
"Today's training will be a little different. You'll have three instructors: me, All Might, and another faculty member will be keeping tabs on you."
Sero raised his hand and asked, "Sir, what kind of training is this?"
Aizawa held up a card that said Rescue in bold blue letters.
"Rescue," he read off the card. "You'll be dealing with natural disasters, shipwrecks, stuff like that."
"Disasters, huh?" I turned to Ashido, grinning with excitement. "Sounds like we're in for a big workout."
"Totally!" Ashido replied, just as pumped as I was.
"Real hero stuff! This is what separates the men from the boys," Kirishima added from behind me. "I'm shaking with excitement!"
"Finally, I'll get to show off how good I am in water—ribbit," Asui—no, Tsu—said from next to Kirishima.
Just as our conversations were starting to pick up, Aizawa cut in: "I'm not finished yet," and we immediately went quiet.
"What you wear in this exercise is up to you," he continued. "I know you're excited about costumes, but keep in mind that you haven't gotten used to them yet, and they might limit your abilities."
"This special training's at an off-campus facility, so we'll be taking a bus to get there. That's all. Start getting ready." He finished and walked out of the classroom.
Hearing that, Kirishima, Ashido, and I exchanged looks, and all three of us came to the same conclusion:
"Field trip!" we said in unison, as if we were a bunch of excited middle schoolers again. I swear, Ashido was practically vibrating with energy, and Kirishima already looked like he was ready to lift a bus himself.
