Chapter 7 - Chapter 7- So It Was All A Show?

I was jolted back to reality, when I heard him clear his throat. "Watch where you're going, Miss", he simply said, and began walking away.

"Um, first off, I'm sorry. I didn't see you coming, and happened to bump into you, it really wasn't my intention", I said, hoping my apology soothes his ego.

"Whatever, Miss", he said nonchalantly, and walked away.

What? I was dumbfounded. Was this the same Nicholas who apologized to me the other day?, or was this someone else?. Maybe a clone or something, because I had thought earlier, that we already settled our differences?

Oh, well...Since he wanted to remain enemies, then I'd show him how it's done.

"Nicholas Carson, suit yourself then!", I said, shrugging him off, with a voice clothed with sarcasm.

My eyes scanned the car park, and I saw Mike staring at me blankly. He had his arms folded across his chest, with a confused expression written all over his face.

I knew he had no idea what was going on between me and Nicholas, and I wasn't ready to explain it anyway.

I motioned for him to come over, with a fake smile plastered on my face. He simply nodded, and walked towards me.

"You okay? What was that about?", he asked the moment he stood right next to me.

"Oh, that. That was nothing, just Nicholas being rude as usual. Ignore him, Mike", I said, while praying earnestly in my heart that he didn't ask any further questions.

"Are you good, though?", He asked again, while placing his hands on the back of my palms.

"Yes, I am. Don't worry about me, Mike", I said, while shooting him yet another fake smile.

I pulled his hands, and intertwined it with mine, while pulling him towards my car.

"Let me introduce you to my baby, my car", I said, which made him chuckle.

"Your baby is as cute as its owner", he said, winking at me.

Stop, stop, stop. I was fighting the urge to smile at him, so I kept a straight face.

"Thank you, your compliments are well appreciated", I told him, while nervously wriggling my hands out of his.

"Oh, come on pretty! Just when I already got excited, that you finally let me hold your hands", he said, pouting his lips in a child like manner.

I had no idea what else to say, so I decided to ask something which was totally off the topic at hand.

Clearing my throat awkwardly, I asked, "Has Kylie called yet? She said she was going to be here in 30 minutes."

"I know you're asking this, just because you don't want to tell me the reason why you let your hands out of my hold, Pretty", he said, chuckling sweetly. I guess he knows everything, doesn't he?

"It's just a question asked out of curiosity, don't make a mountain out of a mole hill", I told him, plain blackly.

"Well, Pretty, no she hasn't called. Happy now?", he asked, while arching one of his eyebrows.

"Don't you have a class to attend this morning?" I said, again asking a question off the topic.

"Pretty, you really do not have to shoo me away, hmm? Yes, I do have a class later today, why else would I be in school today? But right now, you are my priority, not my class", he said, smiling sweetly at me, as he brushed off a strand of hair from my face.

Again, I unnecessarily cleared my throat, while scratching the back of my head. Here I was, standing in the car park, beside my car, with a boy whom I knew was very much a PLAYBOY.

"Why are you suddenly quiet, Pretty?", he inquired, while staring at me, with his beautiful almond eyes.

"I want to know what you really want, Mike", I said, matter of factly. I wasn't ready for jokes, or any messing around.

"What do I really want?", he asked, as he walked closer to me, I watched as he kept coming closer, closing the gap between us, so much so that I feared he'd make me fall!

He leaned in closer and closer, so close that I could literally feel his breath on my face. I stared at his eyes, and I became lost in it.

"I want You, Selena Williams", I heard him say, but I was already lost in him..I pretended to not have heard him, and continued staring at him.

"Did you hear me, Selena? You wanted to know what I wanted right? Well, I want you.", he said again, while gently stroking my face.

Someone cleared her throat loudly behind Mike, and asked while literally screaming, "What is going on here !?", for a moment I was scared, as I had thought it was maybe one of Mike's hundred other girlfriends.

"Please, it is not what it seems like. This is a misunderstanding, trust me", I said, while pushing him off myself, so I could see the other person clearly.

It was no other person but Kylie, Mike's younger sister, who was also a friend of mine.

"What then is it, Selena?", she asked laughing at my embarrassment. My face suddenly turned red, I was so embarrassed.

"Um, it's..", Just as I was about explaining the entire scenario to Kylie, I heard Mike clear his throat.

He gently pulls me to himself, while wrapping his arms around me.

"What does it seem like it is, Kylie?", he asked his younger sister sarcastically.

"Uh, I don't know? You tell me", she said, while placing her hands on her hips.

Mike pulls me closer to himself, which causes me to cough, out of nervousness.

"Well, Selena and I are just getting to know each other better. It shouldn't be much of a concern to you, right?", he asked, arching his eyebrows again.

Kylie eyes the both of us, and goes further to say,

"Getting to know each other better, in a car park, just the two of you...I sure would have misunderstood !"

"Kylie, don't get so worked up. Selena and I had just a little conversation, that's all. Right, Selena?", Mike asked, shifting his eyes to focus on my face.

Clearing my throat, I said, "Uh, yes. Kylie, it's not really a big deal, okay?".

"Okay! If you say so. Come on, we've got class right now", Kylie said to me, as she pulled me out of Mike's hold.

"Have a good day Pretty, I'd see you later today", Mike said, as he blew me an imaginary kiss. This caused me to giggle like a high school girl, who had met with her crush for the first time.

"Girl, what was that?", Kylie asked me, the moment we got into our department's building.

"What was what? Nothing!", I replied, while walking away from her, briskly.

"Oh, really. Nothing??", Kylie asked again, while walking in haste to catch up with me.

Just when I was about replying her again, I sighted blondie and her boyfriend, Nicholas from afar off.

They both were sophomores, in the same department of English language and Literature. I watched as the blondie threw her head back in laughter, while Nicholas whispered sweet nonsense in her ears.

This caused me to roll my eyes, and hiss loudly. Kylie stared at me in confusion, the exact same expression Mike had on his face earlier this morning.

"What?", I asked Kylie, and she continued staring at me even more. I knew she was dying to know what happened between Nicholas and I again, because it was only yesterday we 'made up'.

So I took a deep breath, and began explaining everything that occurred earlier this morning, to her as we walked down to class.

"Girl, I knew it. Nicholas only made up with you, and apologized just to save his face, and reputation. That man loved his image so much, that he'd do literally anything to safeguard it", Kylie said to me, while nodding her head, like she had discovered a huge secret.

"I had thought so too. Based on my few encounters with him, I know him to be a rude jerk, who didn't even know the word "Sorry" existed!

Yesterday when he apologized, there were so many people standing nearby, so he probably did what he did so those around could regard him as the "humble Nicholas, who would do anything to rewrite his wrongs". Damn girl!", I said to Kylie, it all made sense now.

"Selena, it doesn't matter anyway. Just ignore him like he doesn't exist, okay?", Kylie said again to me, and I simply nodded.

We walked into class, and it was exactly ten minutes to the commencing of the class. The course we had for today, was Wordsworth's Poetry, with a course code of ENGL 10142.

The lecturer came in few minutes after we had settled down, and began the class. It was a male lecturer who handled the course, and I believe it was safe to say that, this was the least comprehensive courses we had been taught so far.

The course focused on the style, genre and form of Williams Wordsworth's Poetry. His poetic explorations of childhood, memory, autobiography, and political revolution. The poems on which this course was focused on, were poems written between 1650-1830.

The class abruptly came to an end, when the lecturer suddenly informed us that we'd have to meet up with senior colleagues, for our projects. So the idea was that, we'd have to write a poetic research and critique, on Williams Wordsworth's poems, and give them to our senior colleagues for reviews, before submitting them to our lecturer.

But that was not even the issue here, the problem was that, the lecturer had earlier assigned each persons to different senior colleagues.

The lecturer before exiting the lecture hall, pasted the list of each individuals, and the senior colleagues they were assigned to.

Hurriedly, Kylie and I went ahead to check our names, and who we were assigned to.

When Kylie checked hers, she saw a name of a senior colleague, who she knew absolutely nothing about.

So she figured that it'd be best to go ask about the person, and discuss what day would be suitable for his reviews on her work.

When I checked mine, 'Selena Williams', my fingers traced the name of the person I was assigned to. It read, "Nicholas Carson".

Kylie looked at me, and back at the paper on the wall. The look on her face, to me meant, "Selena, you're done for!".
