Title: Chapter 1-My Death, New Life, and The System(rewrite)

After a long day of trying to find new work I'm exhausted. Getting in my car and heading home I noticed too late the derailing train heading my way as I was lost in thought about what to do about work. With a sick crunch and a slight feeling of pain I was gone.

Year 0

Looking around I see nothing like a void. Looking down I see my silhouette, a white outline, a stark contrast to the blackness around me. I died, didn't I? Then I hear a ding followed by a grey panel with a gold border.

[Ding]

[Welcome host to the Tree System. As you may've guessed, you're dead, but worry not you've been reborn. Reborn as a tree but reborn nonetheless. You can do anything. Be a hero, villain, or just do nothing as trees do. You can think 'Menu' for the system functions. Good luck.]

Stunned I process what has happened. From dying to a train to being reborn as a tree with a system. I come to and think 'Menu'.

[Status, Inventory, Map, Gacha, Settings]

Going to Settings first I don't see anything noteworthy besides auto loot which I turn on. Next, I go to Map and see that I'm in a forest my initial range is 10 yards from me. I'm depicted as a blue dot, neutral targets are yellow, red targets are enemies and green are friendlies. In the Inventory there is a [Gacha Ticket] and nothing else. Thankfully it seems to be infinite. With the [Gacha Ticket] I mentally click Gacha and get the [Observation] skill. Lastly, I open Status.

[Name- NA

Age-0-Sappling

Race- Spirit Tree

Skills- Absorption, Observation]

Concentrating on the skills I get the description of them.

[Absorption- Allows you to absorb organic and inorganic matter. Gaining the schematic of the absorbed thing and the abilities if it has any.]

[Observation- Allows you to see the status of others.]

Then I concentrate on the race section.

[Spirit Tree- A tree that has cultivated its own soul and gained consciousness. Normally it takes thousands of years, but there are exceptions.]

With everything settled I have nothing to do besides grow.

Year 1

A year has finally passed. Unsurprisingly time moves slow for a tree if I'm not sleeping, and the year seemed to drag on. Nothing much has happened, but I learned a few things. When something moves around in my map, I see them in the darkness where my silhouette resides. They are mostly faint white outlines. Using [Observe] on the silhouettes I get a variety of animals ranging to ones I know from earth, ones I know from fantasy novels and games, to completely new ones. Seeing as they're all the same looking outline I couldn't actually tell what they look like unless I use [Observe] on them or I get a skill to help me.

Year 5

Something finally happened. I'm being moved. I saw 5 outlines move around me. I used [Observed] on them and got: [Human-Segast], [Human-Walric], [Human-Somir], [Human-Krisia], [Human-Ryenne]. This surprised me considering I've been here for 5 years and only ever saw animals. The first three were men and the last two were women. After a while of them walking around me and what seems to be thinking on how to do it. They heft me up into something that feels like a wheelbarrow and bring me to a cart and set me in there. We set off to where they reside.

It seems I wasn't too far into the forest and must've been relatively close to the edge of it because it didn't take too long to leave the forest. Must've been unlucky to not meet anyone until now. After a week of traveling in the cart we stop and I feel myself be offloaded, so it seems we made it to the place. While scanning with my limited senses, looking at white outlines, and looking at my map I can tell that the place is no bigger than a small village. Counting the dots on the map there seems to be 450 people so far. Houses are spread across the plains with a decently sized stone wall surrounding the village, and a moderately sized house near the middle which I presume is the village heads house.

Looking at the map and the line I made in it from traveling to the village it seems I'm surround by plains. Sparse trees dot the lands but not really enough to do anything with. Seems someone wanted a better tree than the ones around. After the 5 humans unload me at a building full of people I'm once again put in a cart and brought over to the house near the middle, the village heads house.

POV Village Head

My daughter, Peyra, has been sick since she was young and could only take care of the garden in the back. One day she wanted a tree that isn't from the plains. One she could plant and take care of in her garden. So as the best father I am I immediately put in a quest for one that afternoon, and it finally arrived weeks later. When it arrived from the adventure's guild, I called my daughter out and led them all into the garden. There they planted it, I paid them, then they left. I left Peyra to attend to the garden and her new tree after I made sure she was okay and liked the tree. Later that evening when she didn't turn up for dinner, I saw her in the garden sleeping under the little shade the tree provided. Smiling I picked her up and brought her to her room and let her rest.Â
