BEIJING, CHINA
MeiMei POV
"Grrrrrrrrrr" the alarm on my phone sounded on my bedside table, the sound piercing into my peaceful sleep, and for the hundredth time, I cursed the person who made the rules that humans have to wake up early in the morning.
"Not again, not this morning; I need more sleep," I murmured into the bed, my voice muffled as I turned to the other side of the bed, using the pillow to cover my ears.
I was about to turn off the damned alarm when it went off again; this time, my best friend recorded voice flowing out of it.
"Grrrrrrrrr, wake up, Mei mei, you have an interview today; Radiance Group Entertainment calls."
I got up immediately when I heard RG Entertainment; I wondered when she had put her recorded voice into my phone as I sat on the bed with all my hair covering my face.
I had forgotten about the interview; the sleep had gotten the better of me; I was still in this state of semi-consciousness when Wei Qing stepped into my room.
"Hah!!!" She screamed, dropping the mug of coffee in her hand; I wiped my hair out of my face and got off the bed, rushing to her side.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt? Are you okay?" I asked, hearing the panic in my voice.
"You scared me; I told you not to do that again; I thought you were a ghost with all that hair covering your face; at this rate, you will be the death of me," she replied.
"I am sorry," I said, trying to hold in the laughter that threatened to escape, but in the end, I gave in and burst into laughter; I just couldn't help myself; she was scared so easily.
"Continue with the laughter; your interview is in twenty minutes," she said, feigning annoyance.
I looked up at the wall clock, and true to her word, I had less than thirty minutes till it was nine o'clock; I was about to fail the interview even before I had the chance to do it.
I panicked and rushed to the bathroom; I got into the shower and had the shortest and fastest bath of my life; my five minutes of brushing turned to two minutes; too lazy to use a normal brush, I used my electric brush.
I got out of the bathroom, not bothering with skincare or face lotion; I headed directly to my opened closet and picked the first clothes I could find, a set of clothes that also happened to be my favorite.
A jean bum short with a white round neck top, and I top it off with a long yellow jacket that reaches my knees. I checked myself out in the mirror, and the clothes looked okay.
But my hair is an entirely different story; the heavy mass of blond hair looks like an abandoned bird nest, and there's no way I am combing that; it will consume time, and it will be painful because my hair is too much; I packed it in a messy bun at the back of my head then I am done.
I was wearing my white sneakers when QingQing barged into my room again, we never really cared much about privacy.
She stood looking around my messy room, from the chair piled with dirty clothes to discarded containers and nylons of food; there were books and novels scattered on my work table and sticky notes at every available surface.
She was about to say something when her eyes landed on me and she stared incredibly at me.
"You are done?" She asked with incredulity apparent in her voice; I understand why she is baffled; it takes Qinqing at least thirty minutes to get dressed.
"Yes," I answered, digging through the pile of clothes on my bed to find my tote bag, but I was having a hard time with it.
"It's just fifteen minutes after I left your room, how can you be dressed in just fifteen minutes?" she asked with incredulity.
"I have to be fast," I replied, finally seeing the familiar black bag at the edge of the bed, "found it," I yelled triumphantly as I picked it up.
I dashed to my work table and loaded my laptop into the bag, my phone, my headphones, some books, and some stuff that wasn't necessary. Then I shouldered it and headed for the door, trying to get out of the room, but Qinqing kept stepping in front of me.
"You can't do your hair like that for an interview in RG entertainment; you'd be fired even before you get employed, " she said, dragging me towards the dressing mirror and forcing me into the plastic chair that is heaped with dirty clothes.
"There is no time for this," I said, trying to get up, but Qinqing is having none of it.
"At least you should comb your hair," she argued, taking a comb and already dismantling the bun at the back of my head, while she continued talking.
"And you should try to be a little neat; I know it can be tiring to wash your clothes every day, but you could at least put them in the hamper; you can't be throwing dirty clothes everywhere in your room like this," she continued lecturing me, her familiar voice soothing me.
"I will improve," I told her, and of course, that is what I say every time she complains.
"Ok, I will hold you to your promise, and if you want to store dirty clothes, can you at least wash your panties every day, it's not healthy to store panties and more so you are a girl, if you keep behaving like this, when will you get a boyfriend" I groaned as she mentioned boyfriend.
Although Wei Qing is my best friend, sometimes she behaves like an old woman, always lecturing and advising me.
"I know I should wash my panties and clean my room, and I promise to improve. I will try to put a little makeup on my face, too," I replied before she could complain about that too.
" Ok, I will hold you to your word, here, your hair is all done," she declared with a smile, and I got up, not bothering to check the mirror.
"Thank you," I said, grabbing my bag and heading for the door.
"What about a little makeup?" She asked in a small voice.
"No, Qinqing, not now," I said, my voice echoing with warning and thankfully she knows when to back down
"OK, good luck then; I'll be awaiting the good news," she wished me and enfolded me in a brief hug; I let myself be held for a while before leaving her arms.
"I love you, and I am already late," I said, not bothering to check the time, before placing a kiss on her cheek and running out of the room before she could delay me again.
