Chapter 74 - The Gabite Massacre

What incredible destructive power!" Wattson couldn't help but admire Gabite's strength.

Electrode's defense was tough, but even without a type advantage, John knew that one solid hit would likely take it down.

"Good job, buddy!" Wattson said as he returned his Electrode to its Pokeball. Without missing a beat, he threw his next Pokeball.

The silver light of the Pokeball flickered brightly, and out emerged Magneton, level 35.

"Magneton, use Tri Attack!" Wattson commanded sharply, his voice filled with determination.

Immediately, before Magneton, a distorted triangle of energy materialized. Each corner of the triangle gleamed with a different hue of light. The red corner represented fire, the azure one represented ice, and the yellow corner crackled with electric power. Together, the three energies formed a deadly combination.

Tri Attack was a Normal-type move that could inflict one of three status conditions—burn, freeze, or paralysis—depending on the attack's accuracy. It was a rare and powerful move, and in practice, it had a small chance to bring all three conditions down on the opponent.

Normally, it was only Pokemon with multiple heads like Magneton, Dodrio, or Hydreigon who could use this move effectively, harnessing the power of three distinct elements at once.

"Fire!" Wattson shouted, and the three rays shot toward Gabite, twisting through the air in a spectacular display of light. The beams seemed to target Gabite with unerring precision.

But John wasn't panicking. "Use Dig!" he ordered calmly.

Gabite instantly obeyed, diving low into the earth as if it had vanished into thin air. The Tri Attack struck the ground, leaving only deep grooves where Gabite had once stood.

Wattson watched in disbelief, quickly issuing another order. "Use Magnet Rise!"

Magnet Rise was a move that allowed Electric-type Pokemon like Magneton to float in the air, making them immune to Ground-type moves. With a quick burst of energy, Magneton lifted off the ground, hovering above the field and avoiding Gabite's underground assault.

John, however, had anticipated this. He raised an eyebrow and gave his next command: "Use Dragon Breath!"

Gabite reappeared beneath Magneton, its head emerging from the dirt as it unleashed a powerful stream of Dragon Breath. A dark green column of energy shot upward, connecting directly with Magneton.

Boom!

The energy blast made a violent impact, sending waves of static electricity throughout Magneton's body. Its metallic form quivered as sparks flew from it, and for a moment, it seemed as though its circuits had shorted out. Magneton had been paralyzed.

"Perfect!" John muttered to himself, watching with satisfaction. Though Electric-type Pokemon like Magneton were usually immune to paralysis from Electric moves, Dragon Breath, being a Dragon-type attack, had inflicted the condition. This was the perfect opportunity for a follow-up strike.

Wattson clenched his fist in frustration, but didn't back down. "Now, Magneton, use Thunder Wave!"

Before Magneton could recover, John swiftly interrupted with his command: "Gabite, use Rock Smash!"

With a flash of white light, Gabite's claws glowed brightly as it darted forward and landed a heavy strike to Magneton's body. The sound of the impact echoed across the battlefield.

Boom!

Magneton was sent plummeting to the ground, landing in front of Wattson with a heavy thud. Its three eyes spun dizzily, signaling its defeat.

"Magneton is unable to battle! The winner is Gabite!" the mechanical referee called out.

Gabite threw its head back in a triumphant roar, standing tall in victory. The sight of its success was enough to make John grin. "Nice work, Gabite."

Wattson shook his head, impressed despite himself. "Magneton's a tricky one. If it could break down into three Magnemites, it'd be a whole lot faster and more versatile. Imagine the chaos it could cause with that kind of mobility."

John nodded thoughtfully. "You're right. If Magneton could separate into its base form, it would have much more room for strategy. But for now, it's just one big target. That's its biggest flaw."

With a sigh, Wattson returned his Magneton and sent out his final Pokemon:

[Manectric LV 37]

Manectric, the Electric-type, had a sleek blue body and a yellow mane that practically engulfed its head. Its sharp eyes gleamed with energy, ready to attack. Known for its speed and control over lightning, Manectric was a formidable opponent.

"This one's going to be tricky," John muttered, watching as Wattson sent Manectric into battle. "Gabite, we've got this."

"Manectric, use Quick Attack!" Wattson ordered immediately, his voice firm.

John reacted quickly. "Gabite, use Sand Tomb!"

Gabite sprang into action, its claws slashing into the ground. Instantly, the earth beneath Manectric began to stir, swirling into a massive vortex of sand that threatened to swallow it whole.

But Manectric was fast. In an instant, it used Quick Attack, its body crackling with electricity as it zipped out of the way, narrowly avoiding the trap.

Wattson smirked. "Good, now Thunderbolt!"

Manectric's body surged with electricity, and it sent a bolt of lightning streaking through the air toward Gabite.

But John had already anticipated the move. "Gabite, Dragon Claw!" he commanded.

Gabite lunged forward, its claws glowing with green energy as it slashed through the air, intercepting the incoming Thunderbolt and forcing it to dissipate. The sheer power of Gabite's Dragon Claw was enough to strike fear into any opponent.

With a powerful swing, Gabite closed the distance between itself and Manectric, landing a brutal blow that sent the Electric-type tumbling backward.
