The competition drew a large crowd, and John had to play five or six matches before reaching the final. However, his opponents up to that point had been inexperienced trainers. John's Tyrunt easily dominated the field, securing victory in every round.
The enthusiasm among the participants was palpable, though John couldn't quite understand where it came from. Perhaps it was the allure of the mysterious reward—an incentive no one seemed to know much about.
When John finally stood on the battlefield for the final match, his opponent was none other than Wally.
"John, I knew it would come down to us in the final!" Wally exclaimed, his determination evident in his voice. He had been eager for this battle, one he'd been envisioning ever since their last encounter. "I've wanted this rematch for so long, and today's my chance to prove myself."
"I figured as much," John replied with a small grin, plucking a Pokeball from his belt.
John had watched Wally's earlier matches closely. His rival had shown impressive skills and strategy, making it clear this final match wouldn't be a walk in the park.
The crowd buzzed with excitement. It was obvious to everyone that John and Wally were in a league of their own, far surpassing the other participants. People leaned forward in anticipation, eager to witness a clash of two top-tier trainers.
The ship's captain stepped forward to referee the match. "Trainers, listen up! No wide-range destructive moves—let's avoid damaging the ship, alright? And keep the battle confined to the battlefield."
Both trainers nodded, ready to begin.
The captain raised his arm. "Each trainer will use one Pokemon. The first Pokemon to lose the ability to battle will determine the winner. Let's get started!"
With that, John and Wally simultaneously threw their Pokeballs into the air.
The spheres snapped open mid-air, releasing brilliant flashes of light. Wally's Pokemon materialized first: a powerful Gallade, standing tall and brimming with energy.
"When I first started my journey as a trainer, you were there when I caught Ralts," Wally said loudly, addressing both John and the crowd. "Now, I'll show you how far we've come. Gallade and I are ready to take you on!"
John couldn't help but smile at his rival's confidence. "So, your Ralts evolved into Gallade. That's impressive."
Gallade was one of two possible evolutions for Ralts, alongside Gardevoir. Each evolution had its strengths—Gallade excelled in physical attacks, while Gardevoir specialized in special attacks.
But John had a distinct advantage. His Pokemon was none other than a Shiny Gardevoir.
"Let's show them, Gardevoir!" John called out.
As soon as Gardevoir emerged, the crowd gasped. Its shimmering, alternate coloration—a rare sight even among experienced trainers—drew murmurs of admiration. Many in the audience hurried to capture the moment with their phones.
Even Wally seemed momentarily stunned by the majestic sight.
The captain ensured both trainers were ready, then signaled the start of the battle. "Begin!"
"Gallade, use Swords Dance!" Wally commanded, wasting no time.
Gallade's arms crossed as it focused its energy, a surge of power enveloping its body and boosting its attack strength.
"Psychic!" John countered swiftly.
Gardevoir's eyes glowed with an intense light as it unleashed a wave of psychic energy, targeting Gallade with overwhelming mental force.
Gallade braced itself, struggling under the invisible pressure. Its body trembled as it endured the attack, but it held firm.
"Now, Psycho Cut!" Wally shouted.
Gallade leapt into action, its blade-like arms shimmering with psychic energy. In a flash, it disappeared, reappearing directly behind Gardevoir to strike.
But Gallade's attack met only empty space.
Gardevoir had vanished, using Teleport to evade the blow.
"Impressive," John remarked, his voice calm. "But Gardevoir's mastery of Teleport far surpasses yours."
Gardevoir's precision with Teleport was no accident. During countless hours of training, it had refined the move to perfection, capable of dodging even the fastest attacks.
"End this with Moonblast!" John commanded, determined to conclude the match.
Gardevoir raised its hands gracefully, summoning a sphere of radiant, pink energy. The battlefield seemed to glow under the light of the attack, and the crowd watched in awe.
"Gallade, Teleport to dodge!" Wally called out urgently.
Gallade vanished once more, reappearing behind Gardevoir for a counterstrike. But this time, Gardevoir was ready.
With unparalleled precision, Gardevoir had timed its own Teleport to perfection, reappearing directly above Gallade and unleashing the Moonblast at point-blank range.
The pink energy enveloped Gallade in a dazzling explosion of light.
