Chapter 134 - Progress

The underground power plant loomed before John, its dimly lit corridors filled with an eerie hum of electricity. Leading his team was a powerful LV50 Garchomp, its imposing figure ready for battle. The mission was clear: explore the plant, neutralize threats, and uncover the secrets behind its unusual energy signature.

The power plant's suggested entry level was marked as "?", raising John's curiosity. As he delved deeper, he encountered no Pokemon above level 50. It puzzled him—why the high recommendation if the opposition seemed so underwhelming?

John mapped the plant's layout during his exploration, picking up several useful items along the way. Using his trusty Pokegear, he activated the Dowsing Machine and located a rare Electirizer—an evolution item needed for Electabuzz to become Electivire. It was a treasure-level find, and John pocketed it with satisfaction.

The plant was teeming with Magnezone and Voltorb, their electric energies resonating through the metallic halls. Occasionally, he spotted Elekid darting through the shadows. While Elekid had potential as an Electric Pokémon, evolving into the formidable Electivire, John wasn't looking to train a new Electric-type at the moment. His focus was on Fortree City's electric gym, and raising a new Pokémon from scratch would take too much time.

Still, he caught a few Elekids on his way, hoping for one with exceptional stats. Unfortunately, none of them proved worth the effort, and he released them back into the wild.

Eventually, John reached the heart of the power plant: the main generator room. The moment he stepped inside, his eyes locked on a massive Electivire. Its twin tails were plugged into the generator, absorbing electricity in unnerving red and black currents. The moment it noticed John, it let out a guttural roar. Blood-red eyes glared at him, filled with unrelenting rage.

"Finally, something interesting," John muttered, tightening his grip on Garchomp's Pokeball. "Garchomp, let's handle this."

The LV49 Electivire didn't wait. Its tails whipped out of the generator, and it charged at John with ferocity, lightning crackling along its fists.

"Garchomp, Earthquake!" John commanded.

The ground trembled as Garchomp slammed its claws down, sending shockwaves rippling through the room. Electivire leaped into the air, narrowly avoiding the attack, and countered with a Thunder Punch. The move was poorly chosen—Electric moves had no effect on Ground-types like Garchomp.

"Dragon Claw, now!" John shouted.

Garchomp's claws glowed with dark green energy as it lunged at the airborne Electivire. The strike connected, sending Electivire crashing into a nearby wall. Without missing a beat, John pressed the advantage. "Quick Attack!"

Garchomp darted forward with blinding speed, reaching Electivire before it could recover. The Electric Pokémon attempted to shield itself with Protect, but Garchomp's claws tore through the barrier with ease. Another Dragon Claw slammed Electivire into the wall, leaving it incapacitated.

A notification appeared on John's Gameboy:

[Defeated Electivire LV49. Garchomp gains 4002 XP.]

John tossed a Pokeball at the weakened Electivire. The ball shook for a moment before clicking shut. Victory. He picked up the ball and checked its stats.

[Electivire (Electric-Type)]

[Level: 49]

[Ability: Motor Drive (Immune to Electric moves; speed increases by one stage when hit by Electric attacks.)]

[Individual Values: HP (18), Attack (21), Special Attack (31), Defense (22), Special Defense (31), Speed (25)]

[Moves: Quick Attack, Leer, Thunder Shock, Charge, Swift, Shock Wave, Dig, Thunder Wave, Screech, Thunder Punch, Thunderbolt, Discharge, Low Kick]

[Held Item: Electirizer]

Its stats were decent, with strong Special Attack and Defense values. Still, Electivire's true strength lay in its physical attacks, and this one fell short. John decided it wasn't worth training and planned to send it to Professor Birch. At least it could help the professor cut down on his electricity bill.

After gathering a Thunder Stone and a few other items scattered in the room, John instructed Garchomp to shut down the generator. The power plant went dark, and John was teleported back to the dungeon's entrance. His Gameboy displayed the completion screen:

[Special Dungeon: "Underground Power Plant" completed. Reward: Electric Gem.]

John examined the Electric Gem. It was a one-time-use item that boosted the power of an Electric-type move by 30%. This particular treasure-tier gem offered a 50% boost. "Not bad," he said, though he had hoped for something more unique.

Curious, John re-entered the dungeon. A prompt appeared:

[Enter the special dungeon "Underground Power Plant"? Yes/No]

[Recommended Level: ?][Current Energy Charge: 5%]

"So, completing the dungeon raises the charge by 5%?" John mused. "What happens at 100%?"

Driven by curiosity, he resolved to continue exploring and see what secrets the fully charged power plant might reveal.
