Chapter 43 - Final Encounter

The battle between James and his shadow continued at the Vulcan's forge. Each strike echoed through the cavernous workshop, the clang of steel against steel a testament to James's determination. Vulcan watched silently, his expression unreadable, as James fought relentlessly, each encounter pushing him closer to his limit.

"Why do you seek a new eye, James? To witness more suffering? To delve into the darkness you've always feared?" Vulcan's voice was a deep, resonant rumble, a challenge, and a question that James did not answer.

Lucius and James reached the dark, twisted fortress where Seraphin was held captive. The air was thick with malice, a palpable sense of foreboding that pressed down on them like a weight. Shadows seemed to move on their own, whispering threats and secrets as they made their way through the labyrinthine corridors.

"Stay close, James," Lucius said, his voice steady despite the tension that gripped his heart. The symbols on his arms glowed faintly, a reminder of the power he wielded and the stakes of their mission.

They found Seraphin in a dimly lit chamber, her eyes vacant and unseeing. Lilith stood beside her, a twisted smile on her face. The Princes of Hell—Lucifer, Mammon, Asmodeus, Leviathan, Beelzebub, Belphegor, and Satan—stood in a semicircle around them, their presence suffocating.

"Welcome, Lucius, James," Lilith purred, her voice dripping with malice. "So brave of you to come. But so foolish."

Lucius's eyes blazed with fury. "Release her, Lilith. This ends now."

Lilith laughed, a sound like shattered glass. "Oh, but it has only just begun."

Seraphin turned to face them, her expression devoid of emotion. "I... can't... control... myself," she whispered, her voice a broken plea.

The battle erupted with a ferocity that shook the very foundations of the fortress. Lucius unleashed torrents of fire, his flames a dazzling array of colors as the symbols on his body pulsed and glowed. James fought with a determination born of desperation, his sword flashing as he struck at the demonic princes.

Lucifer met Lucius head-on, their clash a cataclysm of light and darkness. "You think you can defeat us, boy?" Lucifer sneered, his wings unfurling like a stormcloud. "You are nothing but a child playing with fire."

James fought Mammon, their blades clashing in a dance of steel and fury. "You cannot save her," Mammon taunted, his voice a poisonous hiss. "She belongs to us now."

Seraphin, still under Lilith's control, turned on James. "James, I'm sorry," she cried, her eyes filled with tears she could not shed. With a swift, heartbreaking motion, she drove her dagger into his chest.

James fell to the ground, his vision blurring as pain overtook him. "Seraphin... no..." he gasped, his strength fading.

The sight of James's fall broke something inside Seraphin. The mind control shattered, and she collapsed beside him, cradling his head in her lap. "James, please don't die," she sobbed, kissing him softly. "Please come back to me."

Lucius saw red. The symbols on his body blazed with a multitude of colors, spreading across his skin like wildfire. He felt a surge of power, unlike anything he had ever experienced. A whip of pure energy formed in his hand, a robe of light enveloped him, and a crown of thorns appeared on his brow.

"You will pay for this," he roared, his voice echoing with the fury of a thousand storms. He lashed out with the whip, striking down the demonic princes one by one. The fortress shook, its walls crumbling as the battle reached its climax.

But then, the Screen appeared. It was not a separate entity but a tool of the darkness, its power amplifying the chaos and despair. It enveloped Lucius, its malevolent light seeping into his very soul. He fought with all his might, but the Screen was relentless.

"No! I won't let you win!" Lucius screamed, his voice breaking as the Screen's tendrils wrapped around him, pulling him into its depths.

The fortress collapsed, the ground trembling as the final battle ended. Lilith and the remaining princes vanished into the shadows, their laughter echoing in the void.

Seraphin held James's lifeless body, her tears falling like rain. "James... I'm so sorry," she whispered, her heart breaking.

Lucius was gone, imprisoned within the Screen, his power turned against him. The world was left in ruins, the Screen's victory a testament to the darkness that had consumed them all.

As the dust settled, a haunting silence fell over the battlefield. The trio's journey had ended in tragedy, their hopes shattered, their futures uncertain. And in the depths of the Screen, Lucius's light flickered, a beacon of resistance against the encroaching darkness.

The world stood on the brink, teetering between hope and despair, its fate hanging in the balance as the shadows gathered once more.
