Chapter 12 - Embracing Modern World

As the days passed, Elysia slowly recovered. Her strength returned, and her pale face regained its rosy glow, much like it had been before.

The Blake family soon noticed something peculiar about her—Elysia seemed unfamiliar with many everyday modern devices, from phones to cars.

She would always gaze at these objects with wide eyes, mesmerized by them.

However, they discovered one more unique trait about her: she was incredibly quick to learn. Her ability to grasp complex concepts left the family in shock.

One afternoon, Sophie handed her a smartphone.

"Elysia, this is a phone. You can talk to people or even see them while speaking."

Elysia's eyes widened. "What kind of magic is this? How does it work?"

Benjamin, walking in, burst into laughter. "It's not magic, Elysia. It's called technology."

Just a few days later, Elysia was navigating apps like a pro, leaving the family stunned.

"She learns so fast," Sophie whispered to Benjamin. Benjamin nodded, still in awe. "She really is something."

On the same evening, William and Benjamin returned home early, hoping to surprise the family.

From the doorway, William spotted Sophie and Elysia engrossed in conversation, laughing warmly.

William leaned over to Benjamin, whispering dramatically, "It's like your mother has forgotten me now that she has a daughter!"

Benjamin rolled his eyes. "You're overreacting, Dad."

"Mother!" Benjamin called, and Sophie looked up. "Oh, you're home early!"

"We thought we'd have dinner together," William said.

The family gathered for dinner, sharing laughter and stories. Their bond seemed to grow stronger with each meal.

Later that night, as Elysia wandered through the house, she noticed Benjamin's study door slightly ajar.

Curious, she stepped inside. The rows of books fascinated her, but something on the desk caught her eye—a sleek, flat silver object.

"What a strange book," she murmured, picking it up and turning it over in her hands.

At that moment, Benjamin walked in. "What are you doing with my laptop?" he asked, amused.

"Laptop?" Elysia repeated, frowning. "Is it a kind of enchanted book? Does it open?"

Benjamin chuckled. "It's not a book. Here, let me show you."

He flipped it open, and the screen glowed brightly, filling the room with light.

Elysia gasped, stepping back. "It's alive! Do all your books do this?"

Benjamin laughed harder. "No, this is a laptop. It's a kind of machine. You can use it to write, read, or talk to people—even across the world."

Elysia leaned closer, her eyes wide with wonder. "Show me how it works!"

Benjamin began typing, explaining the basics. To his shock, Elysia picked it up in minutes.

"How are you this fast already?" he asked, bewildered.

Elysia grinned. "It's just like organizing the royal archives back home. Once you learn the pattern, it's easy."

Benjamin shook his head, laughing. "You're unbelievable."

Sometimes, Elysia's way of speaking caught the family off guard—her words often had an ancient ring to them, as if she was from a time long past.

Elysia's excitement shone as she clicked through the programs. "This 'laptop' is amazing. Can I get one for myself?"

Benjamin chuckled, shaking his head. "I think you've already figured it out better than most people, Elysia. Maybe you don't need one."

Elysia glanced up, her green eyes sparkling with curiosity. "But if I had one, I could study these magical devices in my own time."

She paused, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. "Can I call it a 'scroll of endless knowledge'? Seems more fitting."

Benjamin, overhearing, stifled a laugh. "You really do have your own way of looking at things, don't you?"

"Well, she certainly makes it more interesting." He leaned back, amused as Elysia eagerly continued her exploration, as if the 'laptop' was a mystical artifact she was destined to master.

After a few hours, Elysia stood up. "I'm done," she said, getting ready for bed.

Benjamin, who had been working on some office documents, looked up, his jaw dropping. Saliva stuck in his throat. "She's really a genius," he whispered under his breath.

He shook his head, amazed. "I've got a genius sister."

Elysia went to her room and stood on the balcony, gazing at the moon deep in thought.

The cool night breeze brushed against her face as she tried to process the whirlwind of changes in her life. Though many questions about her new world remained unanswered, she resolved to adapt as much as possible.

Far away, in Shanlin City, Derek stood on his balcony, holding a glass of wine. His eyes were fixed intently on the moon.

Mathew stepped inside, breaking the silence. "Boss, we still couldn't locate her."

Derek didn't respond immediately. His piercing gaze remained fixed on the moon as if searching for answers within its silvery glow.

After a long pause, he murmured, "Where have you disappeared to?"

Mathew, watching his boss, still couldn't grasp the depth of Derek's obsession with the green-eyed woman over these past few days.

Even Derek himself couldn't understand why he was so obsessed with finding the woman with the emerald eyes.
