Connors excitement was not just because he, as Doctor Lizard, was part of this battle, but also because he understood what Batman was about to do.
The former was his redemption for the city, and the latter was humanity demonstration of strength against the universe and aliens, showing that humans and Earth were not to be trifled with.
"Hand it to me."
As Batman spoke, Doctor Lizard pulled a special device from the bag he was carrying.
Others looked on, somewhat puzzled.
But the members of the special forces immediately recognized what it was.
"Nanomite warhead!"
Their pupils shrank as they looked at Batman: "What are you planning to do?"
"You!"
Hawk clenched his fists, his face showing excitement similar to Doctor Lizard, and also a hint of shock.
"You're going to deploy a nanomite warhead against them?"
"Correct."
Batman slowly said: "Wrong actions always come with a price."
"This is the price!"
As he spoke, he took the nanomite warhead and soared into the air.
Elsewhere.
As Tony Stark, Iron Man, was fighting as Cyborg, and Anton used the Mind Staff to break the Tesseract protective force field, the similar forces negated all effects, freeing his mind from Loki control instantly.
A flicker of confusion passed through Tony eyes, and he quickly recalled everything he had done, his face turning pale.
Cyborg floated opposite him, a faint smile visible across the several meters separating them.
"Looks like you've come to your senses..."
Cyborg spoke calmly, but there was a hint of sarcasm in his voice for Tony: "This means I don't need to explain everything to you, Tony."
"I have more important things to do. Find somewhere to stay for now someone will probably take you for trial soon...
Just behave, with your power and status, you'll likely just be despised, no one will do much to you."
With those words.
Cyborg turned into a meteor, rushing towards the direction where Batman had soared.
As the space portal was about to close, they met at the increasingly shrinking doorway.
Cyborg took the nanomite warhead from Batman hands and immediately darted through to the other side of the portal.
In that moment, the portal closed.
Cyborg seemed to be trapped on the other side of the universe, but in reality, that was not the case.
With a teleportation device, Cyborg could easily be transported back to Earth from the Chitauri galaxy.
The reason Cyborg went to the universe, of course, was because his kingdom come Armor did not have the capability for cosmic combat.
If exposed to the cosmic environment, the armor would rapidly freeze, and the jetpack would lose function.
Then, without oxygen to breathe, one can imagine what would happen to Anton.
Cyborg was different.
As a cyborg, part human, part machine, he no longer needed to breathe, his bodily functions powered by the Mother Box, and he could survive without eating.
Of course, in the original storyline, Cyborg seems to still eat food, definitely not batteries but normal human food.
And when asked how he excretes, Cyborg never answers.
Back to the story.
At the very moment before the space portal closed, the Chitauri soldiers launched a desperate counterattack.
Batman stood in mid-air, firing laser beams to kill these still-active Chitauri soldiers from a distance, allowing Cyborg to take the opportunity to traverse the space portal to the Chitauri galaxy.
After Cyborg crossed over, Green Arrow and others on the landing pad below also reacted, seizing the opportunity to begin eliminating the remaining Chitauri soldiers in the Manhattan area.
"What have I done!!"
Tony landed on the rooftop of a high-rise in Manhattan, his face beneath the mask utterly dejected.
He couldn't believe that he had been manipulated by the enemy into almost causing Earth downfall.
Others who had undergone similar experiences, like Black Widow and Hawkeye, stood silently, profoundly affected.
Harry was probably the most shocked.
However, his shock wasn't due to being controlled by Loki, but from seeing his own father.
"Father!!"
The moment he regained his senses, Harry abruptly stopped his attacks, standing still on his flying skateboard, his bio-armor helmet retracting as he stared at the man in front of him dressed in green armor, resembling the Goblin, his eyes reddening.
"You're finally back!"
He clenched his fists, his body trembling with unprecedented excitement.
Even when Norman had disappeared, and he had regained control of Oscorp with the help of Green Arrow, he had never felt as agitated as he did now.
"Son, I'm back!"
Norman was relieved to see Harry recover and quickly moved on his flying skateboard to embrace Harry tightly.
"I'm back!"
He whispered, "I have good news, too. The genetic disease we carry can be cured!"
"That is good news, thanks to Batman."
Harry took a deep breath, then calmed the turmoil inside him and turned to look at the Chitauri soldiers nearby.
"Father, it time for us to fight side by side!"
"Alright."
Anton and his teammates fought together.
At this point, Manhattan no longer recognized party or team affiliations.
The Justice League, special forces, Avengers members, and the NYPD task force converged their forces, unleashing remarkable combat strength and quickly clearing a large number of Chitauri soldiers left on Earth.
These soldiers were not unconscious.
Anton knew, from the comic book setting, that the Chitauri are a shapeshifting alien race that arrived on Earth in the 18th century and always tried to dominate Earth, orchestrating several incidents, including World War II, where they backed Germany.
More bizarrely, in other worlds, the Chitauri are known as the Skrulls.
The movie plot completely overturns the setup of the Chitauri.
The Chitauri and Skrulls no longer have any association.
The leader of the Chitauri becomes a subordinate of Thanos, and the Chitauri themselves turn into semi-mechanical, semi-organic beings, all combat units controlled by the mother ship core.
In Anton view, these soldiers were controlled by the Chitauri mother ship on the other side of the now-closed space portal, but this doesn't mean they lacked autonomous consciousness.
These soldiers were like zealots, accustomed to being manipulated, and very indifferent to life and death. Although they wouldn't seek death actively, they also wouldn't deliberately avoid it.
Especially on the battlefield, their autonomous consciousness was severely compressed, almost not considering the battle situation, completely obeying the commands from the commander on the mother ship.
Also, as semi-mechanical beings, their consciousness was tied to the mother ship core once the mother ship was destroyed, they would also perish.
This is probably why at the end of the original storyline Battle of New York, when Tony sent a nuclear missile to the mother ship, destroying it caused all the Chitauri soldiers, including the bio-warships, to instantly perish, falling dead to the ground.
