"How are you numb-skulls not able to catch a damn floating black ball! You're all orcs!" A humanoid pig with a large belly roared at the two orcs in front of him. His saliva flying out of his mouth and landing on their faces.
His breath stunk of rotten meat and vegetables. That is understandable, considering these orcs lived on the bottom floor of Pandemonium—the slums. Despite the entrance to the tower being on this floor, no one on the upper or the current floor cleans it up.
They consider it a hassle and should be a place for losers who weren't strong or appealing enough to be contracted with a summoner.
The orc in command, as well as the two in front of him, wore tattered clothes—evident of their current living condition.
"T-That egg was really fast! Way faster compared to the others, boss!"
"Y-Yeah, boss! It could even think as well! You gotta believe us!"
The two lackeys begged the boss for his forgiveness. They had just an egg—the stage before a monster gets its form during this period; it does not have any sentience whatsoever and would be drawn towards the door. Unlike the others, which were all either the primary colours or pure white, this one was black.
It was something no one had ever seen before since the 666th generation of eggs. The being that came out of it plunged the tower into absolute tyranny—his name was Adamas. A name given to him by his first summoner before killing him.
His reign lasted for hundreds of generations before being defeated by the Benevolence—A guild of those fighting for good. However, their win was barely considered a win. It was a war that spanned across all the known parts of the tower—it was a bloody war that left several residence floors destroyed.
Thousands of members in Benevolence fell to the Adamas' hands. Each death would bring about a maniacal cackle from him. Despite his overwhelming power, he was later caught off guard and was sealed away due to underestimating the Benevolence's determination to defeat him.
The reason why they didn't kill him instead? It was nearly impossible to succeed in such a task. Adamas has acquired countless abilities from several worlds he was sent to further his defences—making him virtually indestructible.
That with his trait, ["I Will Always Return"], one would have to destroy everything that even gives him his right to exist.
The boss brought his humanoid palm to his face out of disappointment. It was rough and dirty and had a putrid smell to it. The boss then pointed at them with a furious face before demanding them to go search for it once again.
"And don't come back until you find it, even if it gets dark! We must not let it reach the gate!"
Despite Pandemonium being separated into layers, each resident floor would have an artificial sky that had its own night and day cycle. Credits to the first hundred generations for applying it and passing down the technique for the generations to come.
When all three of the orcs scurried away to find the runaway egg, a sigh appeared on top of a dilapidated roof of a building. An eery black ball nestled itself on the straw roof.
Although it couldn't feel anything, considering it doesn't currently have nerves, it could imagine how itchy he felt from lying on top of this roof.
The egg's name was Grievous, or that was what he was called in his past life. He was just your average college student that was suddenly killed and thrust into this "Shithole"—as he would like to call it.
And how he died, you may ask? He was unfortunately killed by a tractor.
As for why he is named Grievous, while he was still a fetus in his mother's womb, his biological father sadly passed away before he could even see his child. A few days later, Grievous was birthed from a still grieving woman.
The woman did not intentionally give him a depressing and ominous name as a way to vent her grief. Instead, she named him after her husband's favourite character in a series.
Grievous shrugged off any more straws stuck onto his body before sneakily floating off of it. He then slowly yet eagerly made his way through a familiar alleyway—an alleyway he had been through countless hundreds of times he'd been here.
If he had lips, a massive grin would be on it, and it would perhaps split his face in two due to how big it would get. The reason for his happiness was that the gate...
Was finally opening...!
