Chapter 21 - Drawback

Kaiju rejoiced in Snow's ascension. Snow had finally completed her transformation, becoming an inch taller than before, gaining some weight, but the gorgeous milky white scales were more conspicuous, making even the Corrupted rank serpent near them fall in love with her. Kaiju's eyes glued on Snow's appearance, admiring the slight change, yet seemingly anew, Snow before him.

Under the intense gaze, Snow couldn't help but blush when she met Kaiju's eyes in a split second, quickly looking away in embarrassment. Kaiju smiled in response.

"As expected of my kind possessing a pure blood bloodline of an Ancient beast! Although I can't determine which Ancient beast it is, I can, at least, gauge the elemental affinity it possessed. Kid, if you find the location of my original body, do contact him. Ah, I'll leave this snake mark on you."

Kaiju was startled, though feeling a bit annoyed listening to the Overlord beast's yapping, but the last sentence made him feel a bit terrified. After all, he knew the beast mark meant–it would either be a disaster or a blessing. If a beast, like the snake races, left a snake mark on someone, other snakes the latter came across in the future would feel his presence more, even if they were miles away from him.

Snake mark was divided into two types–snake mark blessings, snake mark must-kill. Although he was a bit confident the Overlord beast would not implant the latter, he was someone who had been suffering from trust issues.

The Overlord beast seemed to have sensed his worries, as it replied, "Relax, we are not the same kind, and certainly, the beast honored their pride. We live for it, we strive for it, because for us reputation is important, pride becomes prominent after we are living in the law of the jungle. While you, humans… Nevermine, she might hear me."

Until now, Kaiju was still wondering who "She" the Overlord beast was talking about.

However, despite Kaiju's extreme curiosity, he never asked the Overlord beast. It appeared the latter didn't even have intention of revealing the identity either, assuming he could discern his thoughts through unknown means. Kaiju only nodded in response.

"I already did before I received your approval. Well, you can't do anything about it. Anyway, what I want you to narrate on my original body…"

Kaiju yawned listening to the Overlord beast's yapping once again. As he was enjoying it, watching the serpent left into the darkness in a daze, something suddenly struck his body. He, all of a sudden, felt an immense amount of power leaving from his body. He was startled, but then realized the duration of the effect of Ring of Venomous Resilience must have been up.

Kaiju didn't mind, but what was startling though was the fact that the strength drifting away seemed to be too much. He had been used to the current strength earlier as he was fighting the serpent, so, with his body suddenly going limp, he felt his body was becoming foreign.

It was, no doubt, the worst feeling to perceive your strength declining.

As he was adapting to the sudden change in his strength, he was confused when his vision became blurry. He was familiar with this feeling, he had been used to it.

"F-Fuckening… I'm losing my consciousness…" That was what his last thought as his head wobbled until he completely collapsed to the ground.

Snow cried a distress hiss and so was Little Gorilla, shrieking in worry, surrounding his master. They were trying to determine if their master was alive or not, though the connection they had to their master assured them Kaiju was still alive. Still, they were anxious.

"Little girl, it's natural your master will faint after the duel. After all, he uses a power beyond what his body can handle. I'm still even wondering how he still survived the poison that was potent that should have killed him in less than a second. Did he obtain poison resistance from you? After all, given your bloodline, your poison should be potent enough to even threaten a Corrupted rank beast of another kind."

Snow hissed in response, not really listening to the latter half of the Overlord's beast statement, but rather focused on the fact that an Overlord beast assured her her master was still alive. However, to call it normal was absurd. In the first place, it was the Overlord beast's fault to begin with.

Snow's mind was in turmoil, and so was her emotional state, witnessing her master losing consciousness in front of her. Thus, she couldn't hold herself back from hissing–communicating with the Overlord beast, pinning the blame on him.

The Overlord beast guffawed.

"You didn't even answer my question. Nevermind, I can understand your distress. Don't worry, I'll order some of my soldiers there to protect your surroundings. Keep watch of your master, including you too, three-eyes monkey."

The latter trembled when he suddenly heard a voice reverberating inside his mind. However, communicating with Snow, he instantly learned who it was, causing him to shiver in terror. Nevertheless, Snow assured him everything was fine and the Overlord beast should be considered as harmless… for now, given by his reaction.

Little Gorilla calmed down, nodding respectfully in response to the Overlord beast and attentively observing his master and their surroundings.

Snow instantly forgot about everything except her master, slithering forward and rubbing her cheeks on her master's face. Seeing her master's serene face, she calmed down somewhat, and pressed her body to her master to warm him, wanting him to know Snow was there for him, even if he was asleep.

Little Gorilla glanced at Snow, coiling her body, lying atop of his master's cheeks, and exhaled a long breath.

He was listening to the Overlord beast's yapping.

"You, three-eyed monkey, are lucky to be the pet of a master, who has a pet of a bloodline of an Ancient beast. You know who it is. Anyway, give your best in protecting her, even at the cost of your life. Don't compare yourself to her, the difference is vast… No, you can't even hold a candle to her. Well, if by chance, by lucky chance, you get to meet a higher being of your kind and receive his blessings… Well, that is, if by lucky chance…"

Unlike Snow and his Master, who usually got bored of the Overlord beast's yapping, Little Gorilla listened attentively.

It was no doubt what the Overlord beast was saying struck deep within his heart.

AN: Sorry for the very late upload, readers. Have been cooped up by my acads, though it was mainly me being lazy and procrastinating, but still, being a student of a state university is taxing. My body clock, I worked so hard to fix, become shuffled once again. Although my battle with it is still on going, I'll still try to upload chapters every now and then. Semester break will happen on December 13, also our Research Colloqium. After that... well, expect consistent chapters by then.

Anyway, I want to ask if you prefer my writing style, a bit thick paragrap, or like a light novel style writing, my previous writing style? I wanna know your thoughts!
