Chapter 21 - 8.2 - Recruits, Again

8.2 - Recruits, Again

It was time for sword fighting training.

It is a basic skill that a knight must possess to become one.

I was in the forest, with the other recruits.

Everyone stood in a line at attention.

Baldur was about to explain our task.

"Get into pairs. Each pair has to deliver as many Hardy corpses as they can by evening. You have all day. Everything is allowed, except killing others."

He quickly explained, after which everyone got into pairs and ran through the forest.

Vikir approached me.

How did I know that he would come?-Uh...-"You want to be in a pair together? Everyone has already found a pair."

Before I had time to answer him, I noticed two more people.

It's those annoying sores again.

"Let's see if you manage to hunt anything." Glaton joked."Hahahaha!-" His buddy, Oiser, commented.

After saying it, they ran into the forest, like the rest.

I watched with a serious gaze as they ran away.

"What are these Hardy?" I asked seriously and annoyed by the presence of Glaton and Oiser.

Vikir didn't know where my determination came from.

"Those are wolves, as if." He explained.

Wolves?

"Okay, let's go deep into the forest. We're wasting time."

"Oh! So you accept being paired with me?" He stated, pleased.

I headed towards the forest.

I held two swords in my hands. Vikir noticed them.

He pointed at them with his finger.

"Why are you taking two?"

"Huh?"

I stopped and turned to him. I looked at the place he was pointing.

I looked at the swords in my hands.

Ah, yes. I forgot."The second one is for you as if you destroyed one. " I quickly came up with an excuse.

Vikir realized that something was wrong. He was looking at me quite seriously.

I turned my back to him again and kept walking.

After a moment of staring at me, the boy shook himself and quickly ran over."W-wait for me!"

It was obvious that he was lost in thought.

--------------

About 3 hours of training had already passed.

I was just in the middle of the forest with Vikir.

We didn't manage to find a single mentioned Hardy.

The boy looked tired.

"Do you think they'll throw us out if we don't manage to hunt any?" He said it as if he was about to fall to the ground and give up.

Vikir knelt down and then lay down on the ground. Just as I predicted.

He really has zero stamina.

"I have no strength left! Let's take a break." He started complaining like a little child.

I wonder what he'll do now. I smiled slightly.

One of the Hardys jumped out from behind the bushes.

He jumped straight at Vikir.

"AHHHH!"Vikir reacted quickly and rolled to the side.

Normally, the beast would have fallen on him, but it aimed at the place where he had been lying a moment ago.

The boy curled up into a ball with fear. He had his eyes closed and his hands were protecting his head.

What an idiot.

The Hardy was about to turn towards him and effectively get him, but at that moment, I cut it with my sword.

Vikir was still lying curled up and didn't know what had just happened.

After a moment, he opened his eyes and relaxed.

"Huh?" He was surprised.

He quickly got up to a sitting position and still couldn't believe what had happened.

He looked in shock at the dismembered corpse of the beast.

I slowly sheathed my sword.

Due to the specific sound this action made, Vikir turned his gaze to me.

"How did you kill it with one swing? I-I thought I was going to die right here." He was still terrified.

"Hoho! Who do we have here! I didn't think you'd manage to hunt anything."

I think I'll get a nervous breakdown because of these two.

I turned to them.As always, I looked at them nervously.

"Assessing the current situation, I can see that you had trouble killing even one."

Oiser came from behind Glaton's back. He carried 4 Hardy on his shoulders. All of them had their legs tied nicely with rope, all he did was drag them along the ground.

When Glaton said that, he meant Vikir, who was sitting on the grass and had panicked a moment ago.

"Huh!" He bared his teeth and smiled.

Glaton started running towards Vikir.

When he was almost next to him, he stretched his hand forward. He wanted to steal our loot.

Vikir tried to do what he could and quickly took out his sword.

He was lying next to the corpse, so he started aiming it at Glaton.

The man noticed his desperation and desire to prevent the theft at all costs.

Glaton Grawer pulled out his weapon at the last moment.

Vikir swung his sword at the man.

Glaton took the attack.

Unfortunately, the boy had no strength left in him and the attack threw him a few meters away.

Vikir slammed into the nearest tree.

"AH!" He groaned at the moment of impact.

Blood flew out of his mouth, and he was bruised all over.

"Hahahahaha! What a weakling!"

I watched from the side.

Grawer immediately after getting rid of his only obstacle, grabbed the beast's corpse.

He was about to steal it, but this time, I got in the way.

With my sword, I cut off the leg of the beast's corpse, by which Glaton was holding it.

"Cethus! No! *Cough cough*" He started vomiting even more blood.

"N-no.... " He wanted to add something else, then fainted.

The beast weighed quite a lot, so the man fell over due to the sudden drop in the heavy weight he was trying to lift.

"What is this! AH!" He fell to the ground.

He realized too late that the weight from his hands had disappeared.

I, holding my sword, approached him.

Glaton turned his head and his whole body towards the sky.

He was now lying on his back, not on his stomach.

I stood next to him and put my leg on him.

I had a serious expression on my face and that's how I stared at him from above.

"Ugh! What are you thinking."

Glaton wanted to get up and get rid of me, but he couldn't.

My leg completely crushed him into the ground.

"AHHHHHH!" He started screaming in pain.

Oiser, who was standing on the side, got scared of me and started running deep into the forest, leaving his prey and his only buddy behind.

He was scared.

"Get away from us." I said coldly.

After squeezing him into the ground, which made a small hole, I kicked him. He flew a few meters into the forest, just like Vikir.

He also lost consciousness.
