Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

When Alex met up with Megan, an old friend from college who had been living in Lakeside City for a few years now, it felt like a reunion from a different time. They settled into a cozy café near her apartment, exchanging stories of how things had changed since graduation.

"Feels like ages since we all hung out back at the dorms," Megan laughed, taking a sip of her coffee. "You've really been all over the place these days, haven't you? Crypto trading, of all things."

Alex chuckled. "Yeah, it's been a wild ride, but it's working out. What about you? How's life here in Lakeside?"

Megan leaned back in her chair, glancing out at the busy street. "It's good. The city has everything you could want—great places to hang out, decent work opportunities, and, of course, apartments everywhere. Speaking of, you said you're thinking about moving here, right?"

"Yeah," Alex nodded, feeling a surge of excitement at the idea. "I've been scouting around, looking for a nice, quiet spot. Ideally, I want a place where I can focus, maybe a little removed from the hustle, but not too far from everything. Any recommendations?"

Megan's eyes lit up. "Oh, definitely! There's this area near the eastern side of the lake, just outside the city center. It's peaceful, but still close enough to everything you need. I can show you a few places if you're serious about it."

"That sounds perfect," Alex said. "Let me know when you have time to take me on a little tour. I'm really looking to settle into a place where I can just… have my space, you know? Especially with work being what it is."

They talked more about the city, catching up on old times, sharing stories from their college days. It felt good to reconnect, to remember where he came from, even as he planned for what came next.

Later that evening, Alex discussed his plans with his family over dinner. His mom, as always, was a little hesitant about big changes but was supportive nonetheless.

"I just want to make sure you're not rushing into anything," she said, concerned. "I know you've done well with your trading, but are you sure this is the right time to move?"

Alex smiled reassuringly. "Mom, I've thought it through. I've been saving, and Lakeside City has a lot of potential. Plus, Megan's already helping me scope out some good spots. It'll be a nice change of pace. Don't worry, I'll make sure everything's in order before I move."

His dad nodded thoughtfully. "Sounds like a solid plan. Just make sure you get a good deal on the place. You know these landlords like to hike up the rent, especially in a city like that."

"Definitely," Alex agreed, already feeling more confident with their input. "I'll make sure I get something that's within reason. It's all about making the right moves at the right time."

As they finished dinner, the news came on, and the results of the recent elections were being announced. The local city council had a new head, and there were changes expected in the political landscape that would affect businesses, including new regulations around taxes and housing. Alex's father commented on how these shifts could impact the economy, especially for small businesses and renters.

"Just means more work for you traders," his father joked, and Alex nodded, already thinking about how to adjust his strategies for the future.

With everything falling into place, Alex felt a sense of excitement mixed with the usual uncertainty that came with big life changes. Moving to Lakeside City would be a fresh start, a new chapter, and now, with his family on board and his plans coming together, he could finally begin to see it taking shape.

In the days that followed, Alex started making plans for the move, discussing the logistics with Megan and checking in on some of the available apartments she had mentioned. Slowly but surely, the pieces were coming together for his next big step.
