"Ugh…" Carrie held her head, still a bit dizzy. As she slowly sat up on the stone platform, she felt that her whole body was weightless, almost like floating on a cloud.
"My body… feels so strange…" Carrie instinctively touched her arm and shook her head to clear it. Only when she remembered she had undergone the bloodline transfusion and was in Lucian's lab did she finally become aware of him quietly observing her from the side.
"Lu–Lucian, sir!" Carrie's face flushed a deep red, a colour that stood out even more against her newly pale, porcelain skin.
"Your body has undergone a transformation. Take your time to get used to it. When you feel ready, come find me in the next room." Lucian spoke lightly, realizing it wasn't quite appropriate to stay there with her. Rising, he left her to have some privacy.
"Yes, sir!" Carrie responded quickly. Once he left, she gave herself two light slaps on the cheeks.
Feeling the strength coursing through her body, Carrie could hardly believe it was real. Trembling a bit, she extended her hands forward, instinctively calling on a newfound power within her. With a mere thought, a slender, silver crescent blade appeared, spinning gracefully through the air to carve a neat arc that sliced off a small corner of the stone platform nearby.
It was completely silent as if she were cutting through soft tofu.
And it wasn't even at its limit. The crescent blade could have gone farther, but Carrie dispelled it before it could damage the wall.
This was the power of her newly awakened fae bloodline—a bloodline spell called Moonfall.
Unlike ordinary spells, which require a learning process involving model construction and execution, this bloodline-based spell was innate to her. She didn't need to understand the underlying principles or intricate construction of the spell; she only needed a thought to unleash it, as naturally as a bird knowing how to fly.
But bloodline power had its limits. Though Carrie could summon her bloodline spells with ease, she was restricted in the number she could use within a short time. Currently, she could cast Moonfall twice in a row, after which her bloodline energy would be exhausted, requiring time to replenish—much slower than mental energy recovery.
To improve this limit, Carrie would need to either grow stronger or deepen her fae bloodline's concentration.
Meanwhile, as Carrie familiarized herself with her new abilities, Lucian was undergoing a rather mixed dilemma.
[Congratulations! Your student Carrie has mastered the bloodline spell "Moonfall." You have gained access to the derived spell "Moonfall (Modified)"!]
[Congratulations! Your student Carrie has mastered the bloodline spell "Moon Veil." You have gained access to the derived spell "Moon Veil (Modified)"!]
[Congratulations! Your student Carrie has mastered the bloodline spell "Enlivened Flora." You have gained access to the derived spell "Enlivened Flora (Modified)"!]
Three notifications arrived in succession, followed by three powerful floods of complex knowledge. The sudden influx of information made Lucian momentarily dazed.
These spells passed down by the Moonfae bloodline, if converted to zero-tier spell models, were exceptionally intricate and advanced.
"As expected of the noble Moonfae, whose bloodline ranks even higher than that of the High Fae. Even the simplest bloodline spells they pass on are exceptionally potent. No wonder a pureblood Moonfae can naturally rise to full mage rank, carried by the strength of their blood alone."
Lucian exhaled slowly, feeling a twinge of envy toward those whose power derived from bloodlines. Though limited at later stages, the early advantages were undeniable.
The three spells Carrie had gained were prime examples of superior zero-tier spells:
Moonfall: Summons a crescent blade that can be directed with mental power, slicing through enemies and even detonating for a burst of concentrated damage.
Moon Veil: Surrounds the caster in a silvery glow, allowing temporary "moonlight phase" transformation that renders them immune to all zero-tier physical spells and highly resistant to most energy-based attacks.
Enlivened Flora: Animates surrounding plant life, transforming it into battle-ready constructs or specialized tools, with results dependent on the type of flora used.
With these three spells covering attack, defence, and versatility, coupled with the natural fae gift of Nature's Touch, Carrie now had a unique combination of abilities at her disposal. And the best part? Bloodline spells could be activated instantly as long as the bloodline power lasted.
"Lucian, sir…" Carrie's soft voice sounded from outside the door, interrupting his thoughts.
Lucian looked up to see Carrie standing at the door, her silvery hair gleaming in the light, an uncertain smile on her face.
"Next time, just come in," Lucian said, reaching out to gently ruffle her hair.
"Yes, sir!" Carrie replied eagerly, her eyes shining. Taking a small step forward, she gave Lucian a quick hug.
[Your student Carrie has expressed profound admiration for you. Admiration Points +300.]
After the hug, Carrie stepped back, her cheeks flushed, and grinned up at him.
"Lucian, I've already mastered several powerful bloodline spells!"
