Chapter 1 - The Dead Twin Returns

Rose gaped as she followed her daughter's finger pointing towards the garden. She wanted someone to wake her up from this dream. But it was no dream, her dead sister was back. Ella wore a white dress that wrapped around her curvy body like a glove. She walked as she'd done in her former life. Rose's legs were threatening to fail her . She held on to the pole that was nearby and took a deep breath as she helplessly watched her daughter run into Ella's arms. Ghosts were not real;she'd never believed in them and she wasn't going to start now. The meticulously manicured lawn and lush greenery only amplified Ella's angelic look, she had her signature smile on. Rose's mind wandered, questioning her sanity. If she was hallucinating, Little Ivy was definitely not. Everything seemed to disappear into oblivion. The once refreshing atmosphere laced with smells of blooming flowers now seemed dense. The sky no longer looked blue but had become dark and furious.

Rose looked down at her trembling hands and then at her sister's Cinderella's slippers that highlighted her cute little feet. Rose was almost certain that she was about to interact with a living being. Ghosts don't have feet, right? The wind blew gently, moving the trees in a unified rhythm and sending leaves to the ground without much force. Ella's hair also danced in obedience to the wind's whims. Rose's mouth moved as she tried to utter some words, but her tongue froze and her teeth halted. No sound came out. Ivy was still in Ella's arms, introducing her to her new doll. Ella was still smiling vibrantly. How dare she? Rose thought, after two years, everyone, especially their mother, had cried and mourned and eventually moved on. Yes, she may have investigated and even plotted an elaborate revenge against Ross for killing her sister, but she didn't want Ella alive either.

Ella sat on a wooden chair close to the little swing that Ivy usually played with and smiled, this time mischievously. , "Hello twin" she said. Her voiceseemed to avoid Rose's ears and pierced right through her heart. She didn't hear Ella , she felt her presence and her impact. A closer look at Ella made her discover a new kind of maturity that accompanied her rock solid beauty. She seemed bolder than before and her stare was confident and unwavering.

Even though there were twins,Rose had subconsciously been the big sister in the relationship and had always been the one to fight and protect Ella. May's breath was still stuck in her lungs, struggling for freedom. At this point, she didn't know whether to run to her sister or wait for her to reach out for a hug. Unable to make a definite decision, Rose went inside the house and crashed on the living room sofa. Her head was threatening to split in half.

She lay on her stomach and buried her face in her hands. She couldn't bring herself to cry, and she couldn't laugh either. She sat on the chair and an image of her sister flashed before her eyes. She blinked twice and saw that Ella had followed her into the room. Ella got closer to her and Rose almost bolted. She managed to suppress her fear and the shock that her brain had become accustomed to since Ella's sudden appearance. She stood up abruptly and sat on another chair. The spacious living room seemed too small for them and Rose felt instantly suffocated.

Ella smiled and stood up. She sat down close to her twin sister again. This time, Rose didn't move, but sat still. She looked at Ella's Hazel eyes that seemed too bold for the Ella she knew. She needed an explanation for the drama that she'd just encountered, but she knew she wasn't in the mental state to receive any shocking revelations. Rose, however, didn't have the strength to take control of the situation so, she looked helplessly at Ella as she waited for her to decide whether she wanted to speak or not.

Ella adjusted herself on the sofa as she turned her head around, scanning through the room and looking impressed. She stood up and leisurely walked to an antique,a large flower vase, and touched the intricate design tenderly. Ivy walked with her. Rose was aghast, this is no time for a tour, she said to herself ,unable to contain her surprise. Ella was oblivious of May's thoughts and continued to admire the masterpiece slowly. She seemed to have all the time in the world and wasn't in a hurry whatsoever.

Rose finally found her voice and said in a slow, painful voice, "Ella, is that really you?" Ella suddenly and abruptly stopped in her tracks, she turned to look at her sister briefly, tilting her head. She stooped and held Ivy's shoulders gently. She whispered something to her ear and the little girl left the room hurriedly and excitedly, shutting the door behind her as if to notify them that they wouldn't see her for a while. Ella suddenly wore a solemn look as she sat close to her sister again, she looked at her fingers and played with the gold ring that graced her slender finger. She took a deep breath and made a nerve-wracking revelation:"Sis, I actually died, what you're seeing at this moment is a ghost who makes herself visible to whom she wants".
