Through the radar display, Feng Mo could clearly see the four T4 Scorpions maneuvering like precise blades, cloaked as they approached their targets. They unleashed a storm of missiles toward four designated T4 broodships, starting with antimatter missiles to shatter their bio-shields, followed by proton torpedoes, shockwave missiles, kinetic beam projectiles, and pulse torpedoes—a full arsenal.
One by one, the target broodships were obliterated, leaving only scattered biological wreckage. Even though the T4 broodships reacted quickly, attempting to power up their bio-plasma cannons when the Scorpions appeared, it was already too late.
A torrent of missiles and torpedoes struck, tearing apart the plasma cannons and smashing into the T4 broodships' outer bio-armor, reducing them to fragments.
"Report: targets neutralized! Locking onto the next objectives."
In a flash, each Scorpion had taken down a T4 broodship. With their shields absorbing a few stray plasma shots from T3 and T2 broodships, they pivoted and retreated gracefully, disappearing into stealth mode once more to reassess the swarm, beginning the hunt again. Feng Mo's instructions were clear: hunt as many T4 broodships as possible before the swarm reached Planet Z043.
Meanwhile, the T4 broodship serving as the flagship at the center of the cluster quickly adapted. After losing four T4 ships, it ordered the lower-level broodships to cluster around the higher-tier ones, reformatting their advance to shield the precious few T4 broodships as much as possible.
This strategy, however, made it more difficult for the Scorpions to continue their assassinations. The concentrated swarm required them to tank significant plasma fire with their shields, and after three rounds of strikes, their shields were nearly drained.
"Warning! Shield levels at 35%, 30%, 27%, and 36%."
The Scorpions' shields were critically low. However, the bugs' clustering response had played directly into the Melo sisters' hands. By baiting the broodships into grouping defensively, they set up the conditions for an all-out barrage.
"All four Scorpions, reposition for maximum effect. Dump all payloads, then retreat to Z043 for resupply!"
At the sisters' command, the Scorpions cloaked again, slipping into the designated strike zones. Once in position, they emerged from stealth, launching an intense bombardment of missiles and torpedoes. Without a backward glance, the Scorpions began their return, leaving behind a spectacular explosion in their wake.
With their shields nearly depleted, one of the Scorpions had even taken minor hull damage. Despite this, their mission had succeeded spectacularly. Watching from the command center, Feng Mo applauded the Melo sisters' tactical brilliance.
First, they had forced the broodships to cluster defensively, then unleashed a saturation strike across four sectors, blanketing the area in missiles and torpedoes. Radar confirmed that entire swathes of red blips—the signatures of broodships—blinked out, replaced only by biological wreckage.
In just under an hour, the Scorpions had executed three assassination waves, eliminating twelve T4 broodships, and then launched a saturation strike, wiping out over four hundred broodships. The bugs' strategy to cluster their lower-tier broodships around the T4 vessels had handed the Melo sisters a golden opportunity.
Of the original 4,339 broodships, nearly a tenth were destroyed before they even neared Z043. The sisters had completed Feng Mo's mission with flying colors.
While the Scorpions were wreaking havoc, Ai Er on the Mastodon also moved into action, issuing her commands with precision:
"Deploy all drones! Escort the bombers for a full-scale bombing run. Suicide drones, standby for a deep strike and detonation within the swarm. Breachers, hold for now!"
A series of commands rang out, and tech teams calculated the optimal flight paths. Nine hundred drones launched, streaking toward the swarm. Meanwhile, two T3 Boxers, escorted by ten T4 Blade and Shield frigates, positioned themselves at maximum firing range, ready to engage.
As the drones approached the swarm, five hundred opened fire, weaving a laser web that blanketed the front lines of T3 and T2 broodships. Taking advantage of the chaos, two hundred bombers unleashed every missile in their arsenal, while the remaining two hundred suicide drones bided their time, waiting until the laser web and missiles had detonated before diving deep into the swarm.
The drones triggered the bugs' bio-sensors, and a barrage of plasma shots struck, but the primary mission was already achieved. Ai Er wasn't concerned about the losses—the Mastodon had five T4 Furnace industrial ships on standby, ready to replace the lost drones within two hours.
The laser web from the first wave of drones shredded countless T3 and T2 broodships, triggering a chain of explosions. In the second wave, a thousand missiles from the bombers rained down, overwhelming the broodships' bio-shields. And finally, the two hundred suicide drones, now reduced to fifty-six, drilled into the heart of the swarm, detonating and clearing entire sections of the broodship cluster, with even T4 ships caught in the blasts.
Watching from his radar screen, Feng Mo saw the Melo sisters' three assassination waves and final bombing run take out a tenth of the broodships. The Mastodon's drones had destroyed over five hundred, including two T4 broodships—a brilliant performance by any measure.
