With Feng Mo's command, the four T4 Scorpion stealth bombers surged toward the distant battlefield. The Federation's rescue fleet was evenly matched against the insectoid mother ships, but with the Scorpions launching surprise attacks, the tide would soon turn in their favor.
Looking at the dense cluster of insectoid mother ships surrounding Z227, Feng Mo estimated there were around three thousand ships, mostly T1, T2, and T3 classes. The T4 ships were primarily engaged with the Federation fleet. Although weaker, these insectoid mother ships posed a significant threat, creating a solid blockade around the planet. Clearing them with conventional attacks would take time, and Feng Mo wasn't certain the ground defenses could hold out that long.
Deciding on a bold approach, Feng Mo issued an order that matched his adventurous spirit:
"Hurricane, Mastodon, remove engine restrictions, engage maximum speed, full power to star shields—ram them straight through!"
"Yes, sir!" Han Peipei acknowledged, swiftly entering commands on the control console.
"Engines unrestricted, maximum speed engaged. Starship weapon modules retracted. Countdown in 3… 2… 1… Engage!"
With Han Peipei's countdown, the two quasi-T5 starships shot forward like arrows, racing toward Z227. Accelerating rapidly, they soon reached an astonishing speed of 490 stellar knots.
Technically, with engine restrictions lifted, they could reach twice their normal speed. Both Hurricane and Mastodon had a standard speed of 300 stellar knots, meaning their maximum potential was over 600 knots. However, the dark energy crystals powering their engines could only sustain unrestricted speeds for short bursts without risking damage. Thus, 490 knots was the optimal limit.
Both ships activated their star shields at full power, retracting all external weapons beneath protective armor. From a god's-eye view, the two ships resembled enormous, streamlined projectiles, smooth and aerodynamic for peak velocity.
"Warning! Hurricane and Mastodon under collision impact. Star shield energy at 99.8% and 99.6%."
The electronic alert sounded as a shadow flashed across the radar—likely a T1 or T2 insectoid mother ship—shattered instantly upon impact. At such high speeds, even the sturdier insectoid mother ships were obliterated on contact, reduced to fragments.
"Warning! Radar detects numerous insectoid mother ships ahead and a swarm of aerial units."
Another alert sounded, but Feng Mo dismissed it. "Disable radar alerts for insectoid units. I don't care what's in front of us—just keep ramming through!"
"Warning! Hurricane and Mastodon under collision impact. Star shield energy at 98% and 98.3%."
From an overhead view, the Hurricane and Mastodon were like two colossal bulldozers, plowing through the dense swarm at breakneck speed. No matter the class of the insectoid mother ships, anything that collided with these juggernauts was torn apart. They carved a temporary vacuum within the swarm, which the surrounding ships quickly refilled, but the two quasi-T5 ships were nearing Z227.
Feng Mo ordered a gradual deceleration as they approached, reducing speed from 490 knots to 300, switching from extreme speed mode to standard cruising. The deceleration took time due to their high velocity, but by the time they reached Z227's atmosphere, they were moving at a controlled pace.
"Remove radar restrictions and scan Z227. Connect to all available communication channels and broadcast."
"Yes, Commander. Scans complete, communications channels established."
Taking a deep breath, Feng Mo spoke steadily, "Attention, this is Duke Feng Mo of the Yunshan Empire. Remain calm and hold your positions if you are not in immediate danger. The insectoid swarm will soon be repelled."
Repeating the message twice more, Feng Mo then issued his orders:
"Feng Tianyi, deploy the mech squad to support the ground forces. Mastodon, launch all drones to assist in clearing aerial insectoid units!"
"Yes, sir!"
The skies over Z227 were dark with insectoid flying units. Federation fighters fought desperately against the swarm above, while on the ground, armored mechs and infantry troops armed with laser rifles held their positions, resisting the relentless ground assault.
In the planet's central region lay a long mountain range, a natural barrier where the military's defense forces held their line. The sky seemed tinged green from the sheer number of insectoids, an unending wave stretching as far as the eye could see. Many defenders felt a creeping sense of despair. As they prepared for the worst, soldiers recorded last messages for their families, only to find the swarm's bio-magnetic field blocked their transmissions.
Within this mountain range was a group of young cadets, standing tall and spirited, clad in combat uniforms and armed with laser rifles. Their instructor led from the front. These cadets, students from the Yunshan Military Academy's command program, were filling gaps in the defense where casualties had left positions unmanned.
Although they were afraid, the cadets took pride in their duty, for they were Yunshan Military Academy students—a school known for producing military prodigies and supplying nearly a tenth of the Empire's officers. Feng Mo, now a Duke and the lord of two star systems, was a former student, and his legacy was a common topic of conversation among the academy's ranks.
Among the cadets stood a young girl in a combat suit, her gaze distant as she wrestled with her emotions. The thought of never seeing her father again—or her childhood playmate, Brother Feng Mo—left her
heart heavy. This girl was none other than Gu Yanyan.
