Chapter 1 - 001

Now this is interesting...

I have really reincarnated! I mean, he did say that I would get reincarnated. But still, it feels like a fantasy, like the world I have reincarnated into.

Anyway, let me tell you something about myself. I am Mark, a twenty year old man.

I was a martial artist; well, I wanted to be a martial artist, but my aptitude for it was abysmal.

I remember the coach saying that I was not suited for being a martial artist. He advised me to go toward guns; my body was too fragile, he said.

But I didn't give up; I found another coach to whom I paid extra to join.

I did pretty well at the start, but I didn't know that the coach was easing my training. And it got to my head one day when the coach wasn't there; I proposed a spar with another guy who was hailed as a prodigy by the coach.

But the guy refused; he knew the coach only pitied me and took me in and couldn't fight due to my constitution and refused.

But I was angered; I wanted to fight, so I taunted him, called him names, and got him to fight me.

From the start, he dominated me; he broke my wrist with a punch and hit me in the non lethal areas.

But I was again angered; he wasn't fighting seriously, so I decided to put all my strength into a single punch.

But it must have been at a snail's pace for that guy; he sidestepped, dodging the punch while my fist continued on its path.

Now, this might seems ridiculous and even now I have doubts whether it truly happened, but my fist did a full circle, hitting me square in the neck.

….. I punched myself to death.

Again, I don't know if it was the way I truly died because my memories stopped there. But after I died, I met a being.

He was strong! He called himself the martial god! He was amused by my determination to learn martial arts.

He asked whether I wanted to have a second life, and duh! I agreed immediately; who wouldn't!?

He gave me knowledge of all the martial arts on Earth and said that I would have the powers of Iron Fist.

I know that guy; he is from Marvel Comics, whose powers come from an immortal dragon.

So would my powers be based on a dragon? I asked the god. But that guy just laughed and said that I would find out once I was reborn.

He told me it would be the world of Planetos, the world of Game of Thrones.

So I would be a Targaryen, I muttered to myself; I mean, who else can draw on the power of dragons.

He also gave me a mission; he told me that the others were coming. He grumbled that it was too early, but he told me nonetheless and told me to prepare for it.

And then, he reincarnated me. I thought I would get reincarnated as Daemon during the Dance or Rhaegar.

I hoped I would get reincarnated as Aegon the Conqueror, but never in my life did I think I would be him.

I am the grandson of Aegon V, son of Jaehaerys II, and the one who was obsessed with wildfire. I am the father of Daenerys Targaryen, known as the Mother of Dragons.

I am Aerys Targaryen, the Mad King.

...

In one of the rooms of the Red Keep. Candles burned away in the corner of the room while the moonlight cast a shadow on the cradle placed in the middle of the room.

Baby gargles came from the cradle, echoing through the silent room.

'Hah! It feels good, I guess? I mean, I hoped to be born as Aegon the Conqueror, but this is not bad at all. I mean, my father is the crown prince while I am his only heir; I have no competition.'

It has been a year since Mark was reincarnated as Aerys, and he was quite satisfied.

He met all of his family members and thought that it was a pity that they had died so early in the original canon.

His purple eyes darted toward the petrified dragon egg in the corner of his cradle.

The egg was purple-colored, just like his eyes. His grandfather, Aegon V, placed it in his bed, hoping for it to hatch.

'Ugh! I almost forgot, Aegon V and Duncan were obsessed with dragons!' Aerys grumbled inwardly.

'Well, it's not like it's useless. Just like that god said, I can feel a connection to the egg. It is faint, not much thicker than a hair strand. But it's still there.'

As Aerys continued with his internal monologue, the door to his room opened, and a woman in her late teens walked in.

She had long silver-white hair that was braided beautifully as it fell down her waist. Her eyes were strikingly purple and shone as she looked at her son.

"Aerys," Shaera called out as she cradled her son in her arms. A small smile bloomed on her face as Aerys looked at her.

"Aerys, did you miss your mother?" she asked, her smile widening as she asked.

Aerys gave a small nod to his mother and hugged her around her neck.

'Although not much is detailed in the books, from what I have seen, she does love me genuinely,' Aerys mused inwardly.

Shaera walked toward the balcony; her slender body shone as she basked in the moonlight.

She gazed at the moon; her eyes flickered as they became distant while she said, "Look at the moon, Aerys."

Aerys did as he was told and gazed at the moon, his eyes looking up toward the full moon high in the sky.

"You know, sweetling. It is said that the dragons came from the moon. Dragons are the symbol of our house. The source of our power." She said, turning to him.

Aerys looked at his mother; he noticed her eyes that shone with fascination as she spoke.

'They are similar,' he commented inwardly. Just like Aegon V, his mother seemed to have a fascination with dragons.

'She seems to have a little less than her grandfather…'

SIGH

Aerys sighed inwardly; his house had weakened significantly. With no dragons, the other houses started to fear them less, with some openly challenging them.

'Grandfather tried to buy alliances through marriage, but they failed spectacularly! Father is known to be weak! While Uncle Duncan forfeited his claim, Uncle Daeron is gay!'

SIGH

Aerys sighed once again; he turned to his mother, thinking about his new family and the mess they were going to face in the future. 'Well, they are my family now. I will protect them!'

Aerys decided on that day, while his mother told him the story of Aegon the Conqueror, 'I will lift the falling house Targaryen. And show the noble houses just why their ancestors bent their knee to us!'

...

Note: The tale that dragons came from the moon is more of a Essosi legend than a Targaryen belief but I thought I should add it.
