Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

After getting his guild badge, Genji started to express his frustrations.

"Ah, I didn't expect the gold coins in YGGDRASIL to be different from the currency in this world."

"Master, if you need money, I can contact the members in Nazarick to take this place down as quickly as possible," Leticiel murmured.

That won't do. The plot still needs to unfold at its own pace; otherwise, the story might change, and if it strays from the main storyline, that would be a real headache.

"No, conquering this place isn't what I enjoy. What I like is experiencing this world."

"I'm very sorry, Master."

"It's fine, it's fine. By the way, isn't the guild tavern just up ahead?"

Inside the guild tavern, adventurers were spending their previous earnings on the latest round of drinks.

The lighting was quite dim since all the windows were closed, but those accustomed to it didn't mind.

The tavern's interior was spacious; the first floor was the dining area, featuring a counter lined with bottles of alcohol, with the kitchen likely adjacent.

In a corner, a staircase wound upward, leading to rooms for adventurers on the second and third floors.

Various adventurers gathered here, sharing tales of their past adventures and discussing future plans and goals.

They happily chatted about the exceptionally beautiful women they had encountered, often complaining about the pretentious nobles in the palace.

"Have you heard? The kingdom's knight captain, Gazef Stronoff, seems to be preparing to head outside the city soon."

"Is that true?"

"Don't you know? The border regions outside the city have been quite tumultuous lately."

"This place is not only at the junction of two nations, but there are also more monsters appearing. I heard that soldiers from the Baharus Empire are slaughtering in the border villages."

While current events were a topic of interest, beautiful women were always more appealing.

At that moment, the tavern owner was habitually wiping a glass in his hand.

Then...

As the door opened, all the adventurers instinctively turned their attention to the newcomer.

Now taking on an ordinary human form, he looked to be around 20 years old, prompting laughter from the surrounding adventurers.

Of course, their gazes were mostly fixed on the woman beside him.

"Oh, what a stunning girl."

"More beautiful than anyone I've ever seen."

"She might be a noble lady."

Their attention shifted back to the man next to her. Seeing the badge on his chest, the surrounding adventurers felt a twinge of disappointment.

With the lowest rank badge, even a few tasks could lead to an upgrade, especially for someone nearing 20.

"It looks like he's just a novice, but that girl beside him is as beautiful and graceful as a princess."

"Her presence is so commanding; she's stolen my heart~"

Seeing the atmosphere in the tavern, Genji felt dissatisfied and a bit disappointed; the floor was littered with crumbs and strange liquids, and moldy black substances lurked in the corners.

The adventurers didn't seem like good company; most wore fierce expressions.

The owner, wiping the glass, glanced at the two newcomers and assessed them.

"Looking to stay? How many nights?"

The man asked in a dull tone.

"One night, double room."

"For a copper badge, it's five copper coins per night in a shared room. The food includes oatmeal and vegetables. If you want meat, it's an extra copper coin, and we might substitute yesterday's bread for the oatmeal."

Genji couldn't help but complain about the food here; compared to what was available in the Great Tomb, the difference was striking. Fortunately, he and Leticiel didn't actually need to eat.

They were merely curious about things and would taste them.

The owner was surprised that this guy wanted a single room.

He leaned in to remind them, "You're pretty bold, but I'll tell you, most adventurers with copper and iron badges here should get to know others of similar strength. This place is just perfect for that."

However, upon hearing the owner's suggestion, Genji dismissively replied,

"I only need a room, not a meal."

The owner shrugged and looked at the guy in front of him, muttering about his refusal to heed advice.

"Tsk, this little newcomer is so ungrateful. Whatever, seven copper coins for a day, but it's got to be paid upfront."

Genji pulled out seven copper coins from her pouch and placed them in front of the owner.

Then he followed the instructions to prepare to head upstairs.

"Your girl is really pretty."

"Want to have some fun with her?"

"Haha."

...

Though he knew adventurers could be rough around the edges, he didn't expect them to be so unpleasant.

Genji paid no mind to the whispers around him.

"Be sure to protect your princess well tonight."

A voice said from somewhere.

Genji and Leticiel didn't care about the words spoken by these weak, insignificant humans.

If things escalated here, it wouldn't be good for them and would affect the progression of the plot.

Moreover, if they dared to make a move, it meant they were prepared to die, and there was no need to continue showing mercy.
