"No! You're not Superman; you're a devil, a devil sent by Satan!"
"For evil people like you, of course, I am a demon from hell!"
Li Ye stepped forward, grabbed the man's collar, and lifted him effortlessly.
"With me here, don't think about hurting these good people!"
With those words, Li Ye hurled him toward the roof. The leader smashed through the concrete wall headfirst, his shoulders getting stuck, leaving him dangling like a grotesque, lifeless marionette. He died on the spot.
"Clap, clap, clap!"
Thunderous applause erupted from the hostages, cheering as they celebrated Li Ye's heroic act.
"Superman, you're amazing! A true partner of justice. You're my idol now!" shouted a young boy, his voice filled with admiration.
"Mr. Superman! We're all fans of yours! My five-year-old daughter even sleeps with a pillow that has your picture on it. Could you sign her name, please?" a beautiful young woman called out excitedly.
"Superman, I misjudged you a few days ago. You're a real hero! Those idiots in the military deserved what they got. From now on, I'll be your staunch supporter!" declared a bald middle-aged man, his voice brimming with newfound loyalty.
"Thank you for your support. For now, please remain where you are and wait for the police. There may still be terrorists hiding among you!" Li Ye reassured the crowd.
As the hostages settled down, a system panel appeared in front of Li Ye, showing updated side quests.
"Side Quest 1: Save 10,000 people!
(Follow-up missions will be unlocked after completing the current task.)
(Current progress: 3,456/10,000)
Side Quest 2: Gain 1 million reputation points!
(Follow-up missions will be unlocked after completing the current task.)
(Current reputation: 1,789/1,000,000)"
"System, I understand the count for people saved. But why is my reputation so low? I'm practically a household name by now!" Li Ye asked, puzzled.
The system responded with a lengthy explanation involving complex metrics and terminology that made Li Ye's head spin.
"Alright, alright, I get it!" Li Ye interrupted impatiently.
Rather than leaving immediately, Li Ye decided to capitalize on the situation. It would be a waste not to milk the cheers and raise his reputation further.
He flew out through the roof and signaled to the police below that the situation was handled. At Director George's command, heavily armed officers stormed the mall, securing the area and inspecting the hostages to ensure no terrorists were hiding among them.
Li Ye, unconcerned with these formalities, stepped outside to face the media frenzy.
---
Outside, reporters surged forward like a tidal wave.
"Superman, how do you feel about what happened today?"
"Superman, are you single? Have you considered dating? According to the latest poll, you're the most desirable man in America!"
"Superman, what color underwear are you wearing?" a daring reporter asked provocatively, her tone dripping with mischief.
"Thank you all for your support!" Li Ye responded with a polite smile, maintaining his composure.
Suddenly, a group of police officers barged in, pushing the reporters aside.
"Hey, who do you think you are? I have the right to interview!"
"Who's your superior? I'll have them fired for this nonsense!"
The chaotic tussle eventually cleared a path for a short, rotund man in a suit to step forward.
"Superman, thank you so much for saving those poor hostages. You're a true American hero!" the man exclaimed, extending his hand.
"And you are?"
"Ah, forgive me for forgetting introductions. I'm John Charles, the mayor of New York City. You can call me John!"
Li Ye raised an eyebrow. Where was this guy when danger loomed? Hiding while the police chief risked his life? And now he wants to hog the credit? Typical politician.
Suppressing his disdain, Li Ye shook the mayor's hand while covertly deploying a gravitational barrier to avoid direct contact.
"It's an honor to meet you, Mr. Mayor."
Reporters immediately flocked to the mayor, bombarding him with questions.
"Mr. Mayor, how do you evaluate Superman's actions today?"
"First of all, the government takes full responsibility for this tragedy. Rest assured, we'll listen to public concerns and implement necessary reforms. Thankfully, no hostages were harmed, all thanks to our hero, Superman. After discussions, we've decided to award him the title of City Star!"
Cheers erupted from the crowd as they chanted Superman's name in unison.
---
In the crowd, Gwen Stacy watched Superman with admiration shining in her eyes.
"City Star? Dad's department handles that. He'll probably..." Gwen murmured to herself, her cheeks slightly flushed.
---
Meanwhile, elsewhere...
"I don't understand," Coulson muttered. "Superman saved those people, but it doesn't align with our analysis. He's not the type to act selflessly."
"He's still selfish and ruthless at heart," Nick Fury said, frowning. "Look at those terrorists—every single one is dead. Not a single survivor. He's not the non-killing Superman of the comics."
"Convince him to cooperate? Those bureaucrats must be joking. If they try force, Superman won't hesitate to retaliate." Fury shook his head grimly.

The following day, headlines across major newspapers were dominated by Superman's heroic feat:
"XX Mall Attack: Superman Saves the Day!" — New York Times
"Superman: Hero of New York and America!" — Economic Bulletin
"Eyewitness Testimony: Superman at Your Side!" — Daily Herald
Superman's resurgence after the "Green Monster Incident" reignited a nationwide frenzy, solidifying his status as a symbol of hope—and a target for those with sinister intentions.

High atop a skyscraper...
"Boss, we can't find any trace of Superman," a subordinate reported nervously.
"What? I gave you everything—resources, manpower—and you come back empty-handed?" Jin Bin roared, grabbing the man by his collar.
"It's not us, boss! Someone's deliberately suppressing information about him. S.H.I.E.L.D. blocked all data as soon as his identity surfaced!"
Jin Bin frowned. "Damn S.H.I.E.L.D. They're untouchable. Fine, if we can't find him, we'll draw him out. Superman loves saving people... Let's give him a real challenge!"
Jin Bin's malicious laughter echoed through the room, unaware that Superman cared little for the lives of others. For Li Ye, it was all about the applause and the mission rewards.

At Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters...
"Professor, should we contact him?" Storm asked.
"No," Xavier replied gravely. "He's not a man for alliances. Every terrorist in this incident is dead. His hands show no mercy. He's not someone we can trust."
