Lyra's eyes fluttered open, and she was met with darkness. She groaned and sat up, trying to remember where she was. As her memories came flooding back, she realized she was in a dungeon cell.
Kaida stirred beside her, rubbing her head. "What happened?" she asked.
Lyra's eyes adjusted to the darkness, and she saw that they were in a small, damp cell. Iron bars separated them from the corridor outside, and a single torch flickered on the wall, casting eerie shadows.
"We were arrested by Emperor Xandros's guards," Lyra said, her voice low. "We have to find a way out of here."
Kaida nodded, her eyes scanning the cell. "I don't see any obvious weaknesses," she said. "But I'll keep looking."
As they searched the cell, Lyra heard footsteps echoing outside. The torch on the wall seemed to flicker in time with her racing heart.
