Chapter 7 - The Role That Became Reality

I always thought Rafael was my best friend, but he was just using me.

Margaret and I were engaged and living with Rafael in the same house. Rafael was my best friend and always cared about me, until one day his behavior became very suspicious.

I noticed that Rafael went out every night and returned late. I became suspicious and asked him where he was going.

Rafael: "I found a night job, so I'm out until morning."

What Rafael said made me even more suspicious, so I decided to follow him.

Fabian followed Rafael and arrived at a building resembling a warehouse a bit outside the city.

Fabian thought, "Why does Rafael go to such a place every night?"

Fabian entered the building and saw Rafael from behind the boxes. Rafael was standing there, and a few other men arrived to talk to him.

Man: "Did you take care of the person I mentioned?"

Rafael chuckled and said, "Yeah, his body is in the next room."

The man smiled and said, "Good, you did your job well."

Fabian felt sick and covered his mouth with his hands, thinking, "Why is Rafael working for these murderers?"

Fabian wanted to leave, but his foot hit a box, and the others noticed him.

Rafael shouted, "Who are you?!"

Suddenly, Fabian ran away quickly.

Rafael chuckled evilly and said, "He's a witness, so I have to finish him off, right?"

The man looked at Rafael and said, "Do you know him?"

Rafael sneered and said, "Yes, I know him very well."

Fabian followed Augustus' plan and went to Margaret's house, pretending not to know anything.

Rafael took Fabian to the living room, sat on the couch, crossed his leg over the other, and said with a smile, "Please, sit down."

Fabian sat on the couch and smiled at Rafael.

Margaret came between them and said, "I'll go get some drinks."

Augustus, who was behind Fabian, signaled to Fabian with his hand and went upstairs.

Rafael, puzzled by Fabian's look, said, "Is something wrong?"

Fabian smiled and said, "No, I just get lost in thought a lot lately."

Rafael put his hand under his chin, frowned at Fabian, and thought, "It seems he still doesn't remember anything from that night. Now that he's come here by himself, I should take the opportunity and finish him off quickly."

At the same moment, Augustus entered Rafael's study to gather information about Rafael. He went behind Rafael's desk, opened the drawer, and examined many papers.

Augustus, frustrated, said, "It's useless, I can't find anything useful."

Augustus opened the other drawer and found an envelope with a rose design on it.

Augustus picked up the envelope and said, "I'm just curious, I'll read it quickly and put it back where it was."

Augustus took the letter out of the envelope to read it. The letter said, "Fabian, my dear son, perhaps when you read this letter, I will be dead."

Augustus smiled and said, "Why is this letter here?"

Curious, Augustus continued reading the letter, "Perhaps what I wrote is a bit strange. I thought your father was dead, but one night I saw him by chance at a big party and danced with him. It really was like a dream."

Augustus frowned and said, "Really, Fabian's father must have been a heartless fool to abandon his wife and child like that."

Suddenly, Augustus recalled his past memories with his second wife.

A woman went to a room to rest; her name was Alicia. Suddenly, Alicia fell to the ground and said, "I'm still not used to high heels."

Augustus appeared in front of Alicia and smiled, "Let me help you up."

Alicia smiled and said, "Thanks, but I can manage on my own-"

Augustus looked at Alicia in surprise and said, "Alicia, are you really...?"

Alicia was happy and said, "Augustus, you're still alive...?"

Augustus and Alicia danced together that night; it was the last time Augustus and Alicia saw each other.

Augustus came back to reality and said, "That really was a beautiful night, but I don't know why Alicia ran away from me that night."

Augustus looked at the letter and continued reading, "I am your father's second wife. That's why I was afraid to show you to your father. Please forgive me for not telling you about this earlier. I decided to keep this secret from him until you were older.

Your father's name is Augustus Lawrence. I always thought he was dead, but I'm glad I saw him again that night.

Alicia Lawrence~"

Suddenly, Augustus' face twisted, and he said, "Fabian, so you really are..."

Augustus came down the stairs and saw that Fabian and Rafael were not there. Margaret was in the kitchen.

Suddenly, Augustus grabbed Margaret from behind and said, "Where did those two go?!"

Margaret, frightened, said, "What do you mean?! Who are you?!"

Augustus angrily said, "Tell me where Fabian went?!"

Margaret: "Fabian and my brother went to the forest to talk."

Augustus let go of Margaret and quickly went to find Fabian.

Margaret looked behind her and saw no one, thinking, "Was it a ghost? Maybe I'm imagining things."

Fabian smiled and said, "Why did we come here?"

Rafael sneered and said, "How long are you going to keep up that ridiculous smile and pretend you don't know who I am?"

Fabian was shocked, stepped back, and said, "What do you mean...?!"

Rafael chuckled and said, "You're such a fool. If you had just listened to me, you could have married my sister, but unfortunately, you know my secret."

Fabian held his head in pain and said, "What exactly happened that night?! Why did you want to kill me?!"

Rafael pushed Fabian and knocked him to the ground. Then he sat next to Fabian, holding a knife in his hand, and said, "Since I'm going to kill you soon, I'll at least tell you everything."

Fabian calmed down and said, "I won't resist, tell me everything."

Rafael chuckled and said, "That night, you were looking for someone named Augustus Lawrence. It's really foolish, isn't it? Looking for someone who died a long time ago."

Suddenly, Rafael stabbed Fabian in the stomach with the knife.

Fabian, in pain, said slowly, "Wait... why was I looking for Augustus...?"

Rafael smiled and said, "I don't know, you said he was your father and still alive, and all that nonsense."

Suddenly, Fabian remembered everything, and his eyes widened.

Fabian thought, "Strange, all my memories are flashing before my eyes."

Fabian closed his eyes and smiled.

Rafael looked at Fabian and thought, "Sorry, Fabian, but in this world, only the stronger survive."

Augustus found Fabian injured in the forest and quickly went to him. Augustus held Fabian and said, "No, you have to stay alive, I won't let you die!"

Augustus took Fabian's hand and murmured a spell to heal him.

Augustus smiled and said, "Now that I have this opportunity, I won't let it slip away."

Holding Fabian in his arms, Augustus returned to his mansion.

Louis looked at Augustus in surprise and said, "Master, what happened?! Why are your clothes covered in blood?!"

Augustus: "Go get a doctor quickly, Fabian has lost a lot of blood!"

Louis: "Yes, Master, I'll bring a doctor right away!"

Louis went to fetch a doctor. Augustus took Fabian to his room and laid him on his bed, then sat beside him.

Augustus looked at Fabian and said, "I wasn't a good father to him. If he finds out the truth, I'm sure he'll never forgive me."

Augustus gently took Fabian's hand and smiled.

The next day, Fabian woke up feeling a bit dizzy and saw Augustus sitting in a chair next to him, asleep.

Fabian smiled and said, "So you finally came to save me, I'm really happy."

Augustus woke up, yawned, and frowned at Fabian.

Fabian blushed a little and said, "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up..."

Suddenly, Augustus took Fabian's hand and said, "I should be the one apologizing to you, it's all my fault. If I hadn't arrived in time, you might not have survived."

Fabian smiled and said, "I'm glad you came and saved me, father."

Augustus looked at Fabian in surprise and said, "You still want to play this role?"

Fabian: "Well, you set this condition for me, so..."

Augustus thought, "He still doesn't know anything. I shouldn't tell him the truth. If he finds out, he'll be angry with me."

Augustus frowned and said proudly, "Of course, you are my puppet. You must play the role of my son for me."

Fabian thought, "I'm afraid to tell him the truth. He might not believe me or even reject me."

Fabian smiled and said, "I'll play this role for you as long as you want."
