Halfway through the night, the mercenary group relieved Maveth and his subordinates of their watch, allowing them a chance to rest. Of course, the trio did not require sleep, but this reprieve offered an opportunity for Maveth to reflect on the choices made the previous day. The eerie quiet of the night, broken only by the occasional crackling of the campfire, lent itself well to contemplation.
Maveth had assigned one of his wisps to trail their group discreetly, while another was sent to rendezvous with the forces he had ordered to assemble at a discreet location. The wisp traveling alongside him would undoubtedly prove useful later, serving as an unseen scout, while the one sent ahead acted as an observation sentry, reporting back any unusual activity.
