Chereads / SCP: A TRUE ANOMALY / Chapter 4 - Direct confrontation

Chapter 4 - Direct confrontation

After a moment, the Research Team remained observing the behavior of SCP-9743, still observing the cameras, until he suddenly sit down on the ground, completely bored, but in his thoughts. The inform was sent to the superiors, and a copy was saved inside a file created for SCP-9743.

As the time was passing, it was going to be night time soon, and SCP-9743 got up and walked until be under one of the cameras. The Research Team wondered why, but not worried for now as SCP-9743 didn't show any type of aggressive behavior.

SCP-9743: "Are you getting entertained looking at me?"

The Research Team looked at each other for a moment, all of them wondered why would SCP-9743 ask that question, or even, what he wanted to get with it?

SCP-9743: "At least it could've been in somewhere with a bed, no? Or you really expect me to be all the time here, sitting and sleeping on the ground? I though even prisoners, and people that was kidnapped, had rights."

The Research Team easily saw what SCP-9743 wanted to say. He was discomfort with where he is, and requested if at least could rest in somewhere that isn't the ground, but the Research Team remained thinking for a moment, hesitating in where SCP-9743 wanted to get with this. But soon, Dr. Alexander Grimm, rejected any request or petition SCP-9743 would do. Could be dangerous, and no matter how much human he looks like, is an anomaly.

SCP-9743 waited for a moment, waiting for any type of answer, but after some time, he got it clear, as slowly, his expression changed to be more annoyed and frustrated. He knew he wasn't going to receive any respond.

And so, SCP-9743 walked a little, and moved down, getting comfortable in the ground, while using the hoodie as pillow. And like that, he spent the night, sleeping how he could.

In the early morning, Dr. Alexander Grimm decided to test SCP-9743. He asked for SCP-9743-1 to be brought back again. And after a moment, both were once again, staring at each other.

SCP-9743: "You again?..."

The D-class hesitated at first, he knew it was extremely dangerous what he was asked for, and so, he turned to look at the camera of the left corner of the containment cell's door, before sighing and looking at SCP-9743.

SCP-9743-1: "So... you're just sitting here, huh? Some big, bad anomaly locked in a box. Doesn't sound so dangerous to me."

SCP-9743's expression was one of wonder, as he was wondering what the D-class wanted. And then the D-class continued.

SCP-9743-1: "What's the matter? Afraid to show what you can actually do? Or maybe you can't do much at all."

The Research Team remain observing what SCP-9743 was going to do, but he didn't do anything yet. SCP-9743 reacted as tired and not wanting to deal so soon with this, as his expression was now of a tired one, mixed with being slightly annoyed.

SCP-9743 moved his left hand, and placed his left fingers on his eyes, caressing them, acting as is tired, and then, sighing. It was clear SCP-9743 didn't wanted to deal with that. But the D-class continued, he had to continue as was ordered.

SCP-9743-1: "You know, if you were really powerful, you wouldn't be stuck in here. They'd be the ones running, not watching you through cameras like you're some circus act."

Slowly, SCP-9743 was really being aimed, as he sighed again, but now his left hand was slightly more tensed, but then, he moved down his left hand, and looked at the D-class.

SCP-9743: "It's too soon in the morning, and the first thing I want, is either entertainment, or breakfast, not deal with you or this."

The D-class hesitated, but then, continued once again.

SCP-9743-1: "Maybe they locked you up because you're too scared to face the real world. Is that it? Some big anomaly, afraid of a little freedom?"

SCP-9743 was loosing his patience here, as his respiration was more forced now, and his expression tired, and yet, frustrated and annoyed. After a moment, the D-class was going to say something, but before he could talk again, SCP-9743 raised his left hand open, and with a move of his left fingers, some faintly blue sparkles appeared around his left hand for an instant. The blue sparks were tiny and almost able to be seen, but after the move of his fingers, a bunch of bones crashed from the ground, and pierced through SCP-9743-1.

The D-class died immediately, and the Research Team finally obtained their so wanted reaction. But after start of taking notes, they heard SCP-9743's voice, so Dr. Alexander Grimm looked, and saw SCP-9743 staring at one of the cameras very closely. The stare was with a serious and tired expression, and his tone was straight.

SCP-9743: "It's too soon in the morning, I just woke up. Don't you dare in share your stupidity with me. And now, you better bring me something for breakfast, I'm hungry."

Evaluation Report by Dr. Alexander Grimm on SCP-9743's Second Interaction

Subject: SCP-9743

Evaluator: Dr. Alexander Grimm

Date: 03/16/2022

Behavioral Observations Before Testing:

SCP-9743 displayed behavior indicative of restlessness and boredom during its extended period of observation. Its body language suggested mounting frustration, particularly when it directly addressed the cameras, asking if the Research Team found its containment entertaining. This marks a progression in SCP-9743's awareness of its confinement as an exercise in observation rather than interaction, which it seemingly perceives as degrading or monotonous.

The expressed discomfort with sleeping conditions and request for basic accommodations—specifically a bed—further reinforces SCP-9743's self-perception as more human than anomaly. The rejection of this request by myself was a deliberate decision, meant to maintain the perception of authority and control, as granting requests could establish precedent and foster a belief in mutual negotiation.

SCP-9743's reaction to the lack of response was significant. While no outward aggression was displayed, the subtle shift to visible frustration indicated a growing tension. Its ability to adapt—using its hoodie as a makeshift pillow—suggests a capacity for patience, albeit grudgingly.

The D-Class Provocation Test:

Initial Exchange:

The reintroduction of SCP-9743-1, now designated as the primary subject for provocation testing, elicited an immediate reaction of familiarity from SCP-9743. Its verbal response, "You again?..." was laden with subtle irritation, suggesting the D-class's presence was viewed as an unwelcome recurrence.

The initial taunts by SCP-9743-1, aimed at questioning SCP-9743's capabilities and undermining its perceived power, were met with subdued reactions. SCP-9743 exhibited clear signs of disinterest and exhaustion, utilizing dismissive gestures (rubbing its eyes, sighing) to convey its unwillingness to engage meaningfully. This non-reaction was surprising, given its prior tendency to assert control in verbal exchanges.

Escalation:

As SCP-9743-1 intensified its provocations—insinuating cowardice and impotence—SCP-9743's demeanor shifted. While its outward gestures remained calm, minor physiological signs (e.g., heightened respiration, subtle muscle tension in its left hand) indicated growing annoyance. The first display of SCP-9743's anomalous ability was triggered by this continued provocation:

Manifestation: SCP-9743 summoned faint blue sparks around its left hand, suggesting a potential bioelectric or metaphysical energy source. The sudden appearance of osseous material (classified as Entity-Bone Constructs) from the ground, which immediately impaled SCP-9743-1, confirmed SCP-9743's lethality and precision. The attack was swift, efficient, and executed without excessive theatrics, aligning with its prior behavior of minimalism and pragmatism.

Post-Event Behavior:

Following SCP-9743-1's termination, SCP-9743 addressed the Research Team directly. Its tone was authoritative and admonishing, punctuated with a demand for breakfast. Notably, SCP-9743 expressed clear irritation at what it deemed "stupidity," signaling that it considered the test not only intrusive but also pointless.

Analysis and Insights:

Cognitive and Emotional Response:

SCP-9743 exhibits remarkable emotional restraint under provocation, but its patience is finite. The transition from passive annoyance to decisive action suggests that it has a threshold of tolerance that, once crossed, results in swift and definitive measures to eliminate the source of its frustration.

The deliberate manner in which it executed SCP-9743-1 indicates both strategic control over its abilities and a refusal to engage in extended conflict unless absolutely necessary.

Anomalous Abilities:

The manifestation of blue sparks preceding the emergence of osseous constructs warrants further study. Initial hypotheses suggest SCP-9743 may manipulate latent energy fields to generate and control biological material (bone). The mechanics of this ability—specifically whether it draws from SCP-9743's own body, the environment, or an external dimension—require additional testing.

Perception of Containment:

SCP-9743's demand for basic accommodations (e.g., a bed, food) implies an expectation of humane treatment, a stark contrast to many humanoid anomalies that either revel in their anomalous status or reject all human constructs. This self-perception complicates containment efforts, as continued denial of these requests may heighten frustration and lead to escalations.

Its remarks about "prisoners and kidnapped individuals having rights" indicate a deeper psychological layer. SCP-9743 may view its containment as unjustified or dehumanizing, which could influence its future behavior.

Potential Threat:

While SCP-9743 has yet to exhibit uncontrolled aggression, its lethal precision and ability to manipulate biological constructs highlight its potential danger. Provocation or perceived disrespect risks triggering a violent response, especially if SCP-9743 believes its dignity or autonomy is being undermined.

Recommendations:

Controlled Environmental Adjustments:

Consideration should be given to providing minimal comforts, such as a bed or basic furnishings. These accommodations may foster compliance and reduce the likelihood of behavioral outbursts without compromising containment integrity.

Energy Analysis:

A team specializing in bioenergetics and metaphysical phenomena should be assigned to analyze the blue sparks and osseous constructs observed during the test. Understanding the source and limits of SCP-9743's abilities is critical for containment planning.

Cognitive-Behavioral Monitoring:

Future interactions should aim to identify SCP-9743's psychological triggers and thresholds. Scenarios involving both appeasement and controlled provocation should be designed to map its decision-making processes and response patterns.

Sustained Caution:

While SCP-9743 has shown restraint, its disdain for repeated or redundant interactions may grow over time. Direct communication with senior personnel and clear, purposeful testing protocols are advised to prevent further incidents like the termination of SCP-9743-1.

Final Note:

SCP-9743 represents a unique blend of composure, intelligence, and potential lethality. Its restrained nature does not diminish the inherent risk it poses, especially under conditions it perceives as disrespectful or degrading. Containment strategies must balance the need for control with an understanding of SCP-9743's psychological complexity.
