*Chapter 23: Forgiveness*
Axel's anger still simmered, but Emily's love and support had helped him find a new path. He decided to confront Victor about his past.
The air was tense as Axel entered Victor's small apartment.
"I want answers," Axel said, his voice firm.
Victor's eyes dropped, his shoulders sagging. "I'm sorry, Axel. For everything."
Axel's gaze narrowed. "You're sorry? After all these years?"
Victor's voice cracked. "I was drunk, Axel. I never meant to hurt Mia."
Axel's heart twisted. "You killed my sister. How can I forgive that?"
Victor's eyes pleaded. "I know I can never undo what I've done. But I want to make amends."
Axel's skepticism lingered, but he saw something in Victor's eyes – remorse.
"What do you plan to do?" Axel asked.
Victor's jaw clenched. "I'll spend the rest of my life making it right. Starting with you."
Axel's doubts began to fade.
"Tell me about Mom," Axel said. "Why did she keep it a secret?"
Victor's expression softened. "She wanted to protect you, Axel. From me, from the truth."
Axel's understanding grew.
"I want to forgive you," Axel said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Victor's eyes welled up with tears. "Thank you, Axel."
As they hugged, Axel felt a weight lift.
Forgiveness wasn't easy, but it was the first step toward healing
