The school day had finally ended. Two friends, Rex and Karl, walked side by side, chatting aimlessly as they exited the gates of their high school. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the street. Rex had his hands in his pockets, his eyes half-closed, while Karl stretched and let out a loud yawn, feeling the freedom of the afternoon settle in.
Just as Karl was about to step off the curb, his gaze flicked to the road ahead, and his heart skipped a beat. A truck barreled toward him at an alarming speed. Instinctively, Karl jumped to the side, narrowly avoiding the massive vehicle. But before he could let out a sigh of relief, a car from the opposite direction hit him head-on, sending him crashing to the ground.
Rex froze, his eyes wide with shock. Karl lay motionless on the pavement. The truck that had caused the disaster sped down the street, seemingly trying to flee the scene. But as it careened forward, Rex noticed something that snapped him back into action—a little girl was in the truck's path, oblivious to the danger.
Without thinking, Rex sprinted toward her. In a single, desperate motion, he grabbed the girl and shoved her out of harm's way. But in doing so, he put himself in the truck's path. The impact was sudden and brutal. Darkness consumed Rex's vision, and the last thing he remembered was the sound of screeching tires and his body hitting the ground.
Then, silence.
When Rex opened his eyes, he wasn't in the street anymore. He found himself in a strange, white room with no walls or ceiling, just an endless expanse of light. His head spun as he tried to piece together what had just happened. Beside him, Karl stirred, groaning softly as he, too, regained consciousness.
Before either of them could speak, a glowing figure materialized in front of them. It radiated warmth and power, and though its shape was human, its features were indistinct, bathed in a blinding light.
"I am the Goddess," the figure said in a soft, ethereal voice. "Your deaths were not meant to happen, and for that, I am truly sorry. You were both taken from your world prematurely."
Rex and Karl exchanged confused glances.
"Wait, what do you mean 'not supposed to happen?'" Rex started, his voice laced with confusion.
"Fear not, I will transfer you guys to another world for a new life and start", The Goddess says in a calm tone.
"Wai-" Rex tried to question her but before either of them could get another word out, the Goddess raised a hand, and a bright light enveloped them both. The world dissolved around them.
The next thing Rex and Karl knew, they were lying on the soft, mossy ground of a forest. The air was cool and fresh, and sunlight filtered through the dense canopy of trees above them. Slowly, the two friends sat up, blinking in confusion at their unfamiliar surroundings.
Rex was the first to break the silence. "What the hell just happened?" he muttered, glancing around with wide eyes. "Did she seriously just transfer us to another world without any warning?"
Karl sat up beside him, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah… I think she did." He paused for a moment, then smiled brightly. "But hey, on the bright side, we're alive!"
Rex shot him a look, clearly not sharing his enthusiasm. "You're way too calm about this," he said, frustration creeping into his voice.
Karl chuckled. "Well, we could be dead, so this is a pretty good alternative, don't you think? We might be transferred into a world filled with Monster Girl's!!"
Rex sighed, standing up and brushing off his clothes. He couldn't help but stare at his stupid friend, and now waking up in a completely foreign world—was too much to process at once.
"Now what?" Rex asked, scanning the forest around them.
Karl stood up and stretched again, looking out into the distance with a thoughtful expression. "I guess we figure out where we are and what we're supposed to do next."
Rex ran a hand through his hair, still trying to wrap his head around the situation. "I just hope this new world isn't as crazy as the last five minutes have been."
Karl grinned. "Only one way to find out."
Rex sighs. "Fine, let's just see what the future awaits for us".
