Chapter 1 - Prologue

Thirteen-year-old Chanmi wiped tears from her best friend's cheeks, and her heart was torn by pain as she looked at the wounds that were the work of her older siblings. She couldn't believe that her sister and brother were capable of going so far, of hurting Changmin so badly, believing the rumors of his mother's affair with their father.

- Don't cry, it breaks my heart - she said in a whisper, at which he finally lifted his face and looked into her eyes. His gaze was full of suffering.

- Everyone around is gossiping about the fact that my little sister is your father's daughter. They call her a brat, claim she is from an illegitimate bed, and she is only a few months old.

The teenager hugged his shoulder.

- Even if the rumors are true, I will never turn my back on you, Changmin. You will always be my best friend, I don't care that our parents had an affair. Why should we as children bear the blame for the mistakes of adults?

- My mother was your maid for eight years. I lived in your house, played with you only because of the good heart of your parents, and now it turns out that your mother was betrayed.

Chanmi lifted her face to the sky, watching the dark clouds that began to cover the previously blue sky. A storm was brewing, in their lives as well. It was a bad harbinger.

- Can you guess where your mother might have been hiding? Somewhere you must go, since my house is now hostile to you.

A very chubby boy, whose eyes were not even visible, with acne on his face and his hair cut short, looked painfully at his best friend.

- I have no idea what to do. She hasn't even written me a message, she doesn't take calls from me. I'm afraid, Chanmi, that something bad has happened to her. I'm worried about her and my little sister.

They were sitting on a bench under a canopy when it started to rain. The 13-year-old captured his hands, looking at him with compassionate eyes.

- I'll run away from home and help you find your mother. I would rather not live in it anymore. I won't leave you alone, Changmin.

- You can't put yourself in danger.

The girl screamed in fright as someone grabbed her hand and forcibly took her from the bench. With wide-open eyes, she looked at her brother.

- Oppa?

The sixteen-year-old pierced with her eyes the boy who accompanied her.

- Stay away from my sister - he warned him, then shifted his gaze to Chanmi. - And you don't even try to contact him. You are grounded.

The teenager screamed, wanting to stay by her friend's side, but her brother did not respond to her screams. He dragged her toward the car, where their family's chauffeur was waiting for them.

- Changmin! - That was the last word she managed to shout before her brother locked her in the car. He took the seat next to her, and she put her palms to the window and looked toward the boy sitting alone with weeping eyes.

This was the last time she saw him.... This was the last time she saw his face before he died.
