Chapter 40 - The Plan

After walking for about thirty minutes, the group finally arrived at the valley. They first inspected the entrance, weary of any traps. They still didn't completely trust Adrian. After confirming that everything was alright, they entered the secluded valley. The serene atmosphere instantly attracted the attention of the various individuals. Just the qi-rich atmosphere made it an exceptional cultivation spot.

The group was even tempted to just sit down and start cultivating immediately. Of course, they did no such thing. Who knew what dangers were lurking around the corners?

"What makes you think there is a treasure in the lake?" Bryce asked while looking at the crystal clear water of the lake.

"Enter it and find out," Adrian responded cooly. He had already led them to the lake. As far as he was concerned, his job was done. Besides, he wasn't inclined to help them. He probably wouldn't get a share from the loot anyway.

A few angry gazes were directed at Adrian but he didn't flinch. After a while, one of the girls bravely entered the lake.

"Lily, what are you doing?" Robert shouted.

"We're not going to learn anything by just staring at it, are we?" Lily replied.

"Still, you shouldn't just enter it rashly," Daniel interjected.

"Are you going to enter?" Lily retorted a bit irritatedly. Those two didn't have the guts to enter themselves, yet they were still trying to prevent her from going in.

Daniel was about to respond but the words got suck in his throat when he heard Lily's words. With his cowardly attitude, he was definitely not going to be the first one to enter the lake.

Seeing that they didn't respond, Lily continued moving forward. She started swimming a bit further before diving underwater. At first, she didn't notice anything but as soon as she went a few meters underwater, she also noticed the density of qi increasing. She moved further downwards before confirming that she was indeed correct. In the excitement, she kept going further downwards. She kept diving for a few dozen meters before deciding to resurface.

It's unknown if it was because of her luck or because of her survival instincts but she managed to just avoid the domain of the magical beast that inhabited the lake.

A pair of green reptilian eyes watched from a cave in the depths of the lake as Lily turned around and started swimming toward the surface.

After Lily started diving, a silent atmosphere permeated the environment. No one spoke and anxiety filled her teammate's expressions. Only Adrian was unfazed.

As long as she wasn't stupid like Robert, she would soon come back. That was exactly what happened. Lily resurfaced after a few minutes and excitedly swam towards the group. As she came out of the lake, her clothes clung to her skin, making her appear very sensual and alluring.

Robert couldn't take his eyes off her chest as he was about to start drooling when a jab from Daniel brought him back to his senses.

Luckily for him, Lily was too excited to notice his gaze as she reported her findings to her peers. The group instantly became excited at the report and started staring at the lake with fervent expressions. With what Lily has just described, whatever was down there would surely be valuable. They immediately started to plan how to approach the situation. The boar eventually came out. A rope was attached to the body as it was thrown into the lake. The blood tainted the water of the lake as the six pairs of eyes watched it slowly sink toward the bottom. They were hoping to use the scent of blood to lure out the beast before inspecting what they were going up against. A few rugs on the rope ensured it was still attached to the boar while spreading the bloody scent throughout the lake.

However, as soon as the boar crossed the fifty-meter mark, the rope suddenly became loose in Daniel's hand. He was the one responsible for monitoring the boar's corpse.

Because of the blood spread throughout the surface of the lake, they couldn't even get a glimpse of their foe. Obviously, their plan had failed. This made them pensive and without other options.
