Chereads / The Thorne of Destiny / Chapter 28 - Preparation

Chapter 28 - Preparation

Resuming his training in the misty mountains was the major reaaon for Adrian choosing to return to Stonehold city. Of course, part of it was for the safety and the fact that they were too far away for anyone to recognize them.

Adrian never went out without a hood and Jayson had never left Thorne City before so no one could recognize him.

As for Olivia, no one would pay attention to her because she only became a member of the family after the massacre.

Adrian spent a week preparing for his trip back to the mountains.

He visited some stores to buy some herbs that he could use for pill refinement.

However, the pills he was refining now was not for him but rather, for Jayson and Olivia.

Since he didn't know when he would return, he decided to make some pills that could help them in their cultivation.

Normally, it wouldn't be advisable for them to use a large number of pills. Consuming too many pills would cause the accumulation of pill toxins in the body.

When the level of pill toxins in the body is high, it would even slow down their cultivation speed.

Another side effect of too much pill consumption would be the immunity that it causes. Using too much of the same drug would cause the body to become resistant to that drug.

However, these side effects could be ignored in Adrian's pills. Due to their high purity, the pill toxins left in them would be extremely small. They would be expelled immediately during cultivation which would prevent their accumulation.

Resistance to a pill usually occurs after the build up of pill toxins. Since there would be no pill toxins, there would be no resistance.

Adrian went around to the different shops in the city.

He didn't buy everything he needed in one shop. Instead, he went around buying small portions at different shops through out the city.

He also avoided going to the relatively large stores. He stuck with small stores that only had low rank herbs for sale.

Even if the chance was unlikely, he knew that large stores would have an information network that would be able to identify him if he were to appear in one of their stores.

Plus, supporting small sized businesses was obviously the right thing to do.

He definitely just wanted to help their business.

As Adrian was trying to justify his actions to no one but himself, he left the last store and returned back to the courtyard.

Even though he wanted to purchase more herbs, his finances were finally starting to diminish and he still needed to leave some money for Jayson and Olivia to pay for their rented house while he was gone.

It wouldn't be funny if he returned to find his siblings out in the streets after all.

He entered the courtyard only to find Jayson and Olivia practicing their sword techniques.

He watched them in silence for a few minutes as Jayson was going through the basics with Olivia.

He was continuously correcting her stance and form. Even the way she was holding the sword was subjected to his scrutiny.

"It seems he really enjoys being an older sibling." Adrian mused to himself.

It seemed they had been there for a while already because they decided to take a break a few minutes later.

It was then that they noticed Adrian standing at the entrance watching them with a slight smile on his face.

"Big brother!" Olivia ran up to hug him. The fatigue she was showing a few seconds ago seemed to have vanished as she lept into his arms. If he didn't know better, he would have thought she was faking her exhaustion to get out of training.

It wasn't that far fetched, after all, he also used to do the same.

Adrian pinched her cheek gently as he spoke to her with a smile on his face.

"Good job on your training. I have a gift for you." He said as he brought out a small box from his storage ring.

The little girls eyes lit up as she heard the word 'gift'. It wasn't that she was materialistic but this was the first gift that Adrian had bought for her. She took the box with eagerness and opened it to find a small multicolored hairpin inside. The hairpin was in the shape of a bouquet of flowers and was extremely pretty to look at.

"It's so pretty." She said as she took it out of the box.

The little girl quickly put it in her hair as she asked.

"How does it look big brother?"

Adrian stares at her for a few moments as he admired her beauty. The hairpin perfectly complemented her and didn't look out of place at all.

Adrian replied with the same smile on his face.

"It suits you perfectly."
