Chapter 56 - The magic Reverse

The scene then shifted back to Uptown.

Elena and Henry emerged from a swirling portal, their determination evident as they approached the facility. Security personnel spotted them immediately and alerted their colleagues. Richard and Elena raised their hands in surrender.

Deborah, watching from a window, smiled at herself. "That's my hero," she thought, pride swelling within her. You've made the right choice." Richard was quickly taken into custody, followed by Elena. However, after some time, Elena was released and brought before Deborah.

Deborah looked at her earnestly and said, "Please don't see me as a bad person. I'm making this choice for all of us. It is for the betterment of our kind. Elena nodded, understanding the weight of the situation. "I understand, and that's why I convinced Richard to come back. We need to trust this process. Deborah's eyes sparkled with pride. "That's my girl, she said, her voice brimming with warmth. She turned away for a moment, her expression shifting to one of determination as she prepared to make an important video record. With a few taps on her device, she posted the declaration of their planned sacrifice on social media, ensuring the entire vampire community was aware of the upcoming event. As the day approached, the atmosphere in the facility grew charged with anticipation. Vampires from all walks of life gathered, their faces reflecting a mix of hope and trepidation. Henry was secured in the well, his magic form cloaked from view, a silent witness to the unfolding events. On the appointed day, Deborah stepped forward, commanding the crowd's attention. "Today is a day for redemption, she proclaimed, her voice echoing off the walls. "Today marks the end of our hiding in the shadows. After this day, we will be free to walk in the sunlight without fear. She paused, allowing her words to sink in. The crowd murmured in agreement, and a sense of unity enveloped them. After her speech, she turned to Sophia, who handed her the ceremonial knife, its blade gleaming ominously in the light. Approaching Richard, who was tied up and vulnerable, Deborah's expression softened momentarily. I applaud your bravery, she said, her voice steady despite the gravity of the moment. "You have chosen to be the catalyst for our transformation." With that, she plunged the knife into Richard's chest. The impact sent a shock-wave through the crowd, as if the very air around them had changed. A heavy gravity enveloped the scene, and everything around Richard began to swirl. In an instant, Richard found himself jolted awake at his school desk, blinking against the harsh fluorescent lights. Confused, he looked around, seeing his classmates chatting and preparing to leave. "Hey, wake up, boy! Time to go home!" one of his friends called, nudging him. Still reeling from the surreal experience, Richard shook his head to clear his thoughts. It was just a dream, he reassured himself. But as he gathered his belongings and rushed out with his classmates, a strange sensation lingered in the back of his mind. Everything felt different. He was no longer the same Richard. As he stepped outside, he realized he was now the son of a poor farmer, living a simple life far removed from the vampire politics and grand sacrifices. His father, once a powerful mayor, was just a struggling man trying to make ends meet.

Elena's world

Elena's life was a stark contrast to Richard's. As the only daughter of Mrs. Clinton, a wealthy business manager who owned an animal farm and several international businesses, Elena lived in a world of luxury and privilege. Mrs. Clinton was not a woman involved in politics but was instead focused on her business ventures. After divorcing her husband, she chose a lifestyle that seemed to revolve around her own pleasures, leaving Elena to navigate the expectations and pressures of being a rich daughter. At school, Elena was known as the queen bee, the leader of the popular girls. Her beauty and charisma drew attention, but beneath that facade lay a feeling of emptiness. Whenever Richard caught sight of her in class, he was lost in thought, enchanted yet painfully aware of the chasm between them. Though they shared the same department, Elena seemed oblivious to him. Even if she remembered their past, would she ever consider a connection with someone deemed beneath her? Richard's Reality Richard's father, Mr. Frank, was a humble farmer working tirelessly for Ms. Clinton and other wealthy clients. Every day, after laboring under the sweltering sun, Richard would leave the fields to seek solace in a bustling little spot where Maria, the owner of a small fast-food canteen, served hot meals to tired farmers. The canteen was a sanctuary for Richard, a place filled with warmth and the aromas of home-cooked food. One afternoon, as Richard arrived, he found his father napping at a table. The atmosphere was lively, but Richard's stomach growled, reminding him of his hunger. "Hey, man, get up!" a fellow farmer shouted, rousing Mr. Frank from his slumber. "We want to eat!" Maria approached, her tone playful yet firm. Mr. Frank, you've been sleeping all day. Please, leave the seat for my customers. Frank obediently moved to another table, leaving room for others. An Unexpected Encounter When Richard returned home, he found the house empty, so he quickly dropped his bag and headed toward the canteen. He felt drawn to the familiarity of Maria's laughter and the scent of fried plantains. As he entered, Maria looked up and smiled. "Hey, Richard! Back from school? Yes, Miss Maria. I'm back and starving!  He replied, a smile breaking across his face. Oh no! And your dad hasn't been paid yet? Maria glanced at Mr. Frank, shaking her head in mock disapproval. Your son is hungry, and you can't do anything about it? Don't worry, Richard. Come here; I've got something for you, Maria said, ushering him to the kitchen as she gave Mr Frank a glancing smile as she left with Richard.

The bond between Mr. Frank, Richard, and Maria remained strong; she clearly cared for both of them. Afterward, Mr. Frank headed back out to the animal farm, where he helped care for sheep, cows, and other domestic animals, working diligently alongside the manager.

Elena's return from school

Meanwhile, when Elena arrived home, she felt the familiar sense of isolation. As the car pulled into the lavish mansion, she stepped out, her heart heavy. Climbing the grand staircase to her room, she changed out of her school uniform, determined to find her mother. Without knocking, she entered her mother's room, only to be met with a shocking scene. Mrs Clinton was entwined with two muscular young men in a compromising position. The sight churned Elena's stomach. She stumbled backward, mortified, and shut the door quickly, her heart racing."Oh my God! What is all this? she murmured to herself, retreating to the living room, feeling both anger and betrayal. Moments later, the two men exited, glancing at her with smirks. One of them leaned in and whispered, "Young lady, next time, knock. Get lost, you fool! She shot back, her voice laced with contempt. Just then, Mrs. Clinton emerged, her demeanor unapologetic. Never speak to my daughter like that! She snapped, her authority eclipsing the moment. Once alone, Elena confronted her mother, her frustration boiling over. "Mom, I can't believe you're doing this! Is this why you divorced Dad? To sleep around with young men? Enough, Elena! You have no right to interfere in my life! Mrs Clinton retorted, brushing off her daughter's concerns as she grabbed her car keys. I'm off to check on my business. I'm coming with you!  Elena declared, following her mother out to the car.

A New Connection

At the animal farm, the contrasting worlds of Elena and Richard collide. As they arrived, Elena noticed Richard hard at work, baiting the sheep. "Hi, Richard!" Mrs Clinton called, a hint of admiration in her voice. "You're doing great! Richard glanced up, his face brightening. Thank you, ma'am. I'm just doing what I can. Elena observed Richard from a distance, feeling a strange mixture of jealousy and curiosity. Her mother's praise stung; why couldn't she have the same work ethic? Summoning courage, she approached him, intrigued. Seems like you really like animals. Yeah, Richard replied, his surprise evident. I'd love to be a farmer one day and have my own animal farm. Really? You think that's possible?  Elena challenged, a flicker of skepticism in her tone."Being poor today doesn't mean I'll always be poor. If I work hard and believe in my dreams, I know it will come true," Richard said, his voice steady. Elena felt guilt wash over her at his words."I'm sorry for how I spoke to you," she admitted, her tone softer."It's okay," Richard replied, their conversation easing the tension. They continued talking, and an unexpected connection began to blossom."Would you mind joining me later for coffee? Richard asked, his heart racing. Sure! But I needed to get home first, Elena replied, excitement dancing in her eyes. Later that evening, they visited a quaint bookshop, selecting novels that piqued their interests, before heading to a nearby café. As Richard prepared to pay, Elena interjected," Don't worry; I'll take care of it. Really? That's kind of you," Richard smiled, touched by her generosity. They settled into a cozy corner, immersed in a novel about political intrigue and supernatural love. As they read through steamy scenes, their eyes met, laughter bubbling between them. Elena leaned her head on Richard's shoulder, feeling a spark of connection."Richard, I've been feeling something for a while now," Elena confessed hesitantly. Me too," he replied, his heart racing."Wait, do you like me?" she asked, her eyes widening in disbelief."Yes, I do," Richard admitted, a smile spreading across his face as warmth washed over him. Elena's eyes sparkled with surprise and joy, reflecting the feelings that had been bubbling beneath the surface for both of them. They pulled back from the hug, their faces inches apart, and Richard felt a rush of courage. "I've liked you for a long time, Elena. I never thought you'd feel the same way." Elena bit her lip, a playful glint in her eyes. It's funny, isn't it? Here we are, two kids from totally different worlds, and yet... She trailed off, searching for Richard's gaze."...and yet here we are," he finished for her, his heart racing. I always thought you were out of my league, and that you'd never want anything to do with someone like me. Why would you think that? Elena asked, genuinely confused. "Just because my mom has money doesn't mean I'm any better than you. You're kind, hardworking, and you actually care about people. That's more than I can say for most of the kids at school. Richard felt his cheeks flush at her words, and he couldn't help but smile wider. "Thanks, that means a lot coming from you." Just then, they were interrupted by the sound of laughter from a nearby group of teenagers who had come to the café. The moment felt too perfect to last, but Richard didn't want to let it slip away. "So... how about we make this official? he asked, trying to keep his tone light despite the heaviness of the moment."What do you mean?" Elena asked, tilting her head."I mean, would you be my girlfriend?" His heart beating loud in his chest, the anticipation almost overwhelming. Elena's eyes widened, and a soft smile graced her lips. "Yes, I would love that! she exclaimed. The joy in her voice lit up the café, and Richard couldn't help but laugh, feeling lighter than air. They spent the rest of the afternoon talking and sharing stories about their lives. Richard felt as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, while Elena seemed more vibrant and alive than ever. Their connection deepened as they discussed their dreams and aspirations, both of them discovering how much they had in common despite their different backgrounds. But just as the sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Richard's phone buzzed with a message from his father. He glanced at it, feeling a twinge of responsibility creeping back in. "I should probably head home," he said reluctantly, not wanting to break the moment they were sharing. Elena nodded, though her disappointment was palpable. "Yeah, I guess we both should." They stood up, and Richard couldn't resist stealing one last glance at her before they left the café. "I'm really glad we talked today, Elena. I can't wait to see you again. Me too," she replied, her smile contagious. "Let's do this again soon. Maybe we can go to the animal farm together? Absolutely," Richard agreed, his heart racing at the thought of spending more time with her. As they stepped outside, the world felt different—a little brighter, a little more hopeful. Meanwhile, in another part of town, Henry's life remained the same—a young and rich billionaire living in his luxurious home. That morning, he woke up and stood by his large glass window, taking in the view of the city below. His male servant entered the room, bringing him a cup of coffee and the daily newspaper. Henry sipped the coffee as he flipped through the pages, browsing headlines absentmindedly. Just then, his phone rang. It was his sister, Deborah, calling from the neighboring town. She was excited, eager to inform her twin brother about her upcoming wedding, and, of course, teasing him about still being single. "When will you finally settle down?" she joked over the phone, laughing lightly. Despite the teasing, Deborah was genuinely concerned, always hoping her brother would find someone to share his life with. Henry chuckled, reassuring her that he would be at the wedding and that everything was under control at his end. They said goodbye, and Henry ended the call with a thoughtful expression on his face. He sipped the last of his coffee, staring out of the large glass window in his luxury living room. The morning sunlight streamed in, casting a golden hue over the room, but his thoughts were elsewhere. His sister Deborah's teasing about him still being single lingered in his mind. She always joked about it, but this time, her upcoming wedding made it feel more real. He sighed, running a hand through his hair." Mr. Henry, your schedule for the day, his personal  assistant said, holding out a leather-bound planner and his briefcase, breaking Henry from his thoughts. Right, Henry said, standing up and straightening his suit jacket. "Let's get to it." They walked out to the sleek black Mercedes-Benz waiting outside. As they drove through town, Henry leaned back, his mind drifting. When they passed by Calvary Bookshop, something caught his attention. The same young woman he had dreamed of was sweeping the front of the shop.
