My parents always wanted me to take part of the family business but I was never interested, I never wanted to be part of the business and gave my brother my shares to run them for me so my parents get off my back. But that's a story for another day.
Now back to my little obsession, I first met her — saw her when I was trying to get away from my nudging friends, we were having a nice time drinking at a small pud until they started lecturing me— lecturing me about settling down, have kids, stop breaking hearts, get married, you know all the things I should have at this age, I get annoyed and stepped out of the pud to get some fresh air—well I want to have a smoke but still counts as fresh air.
"Oh, those fucking idiots wish they could just get off my back." I said lighting a cigarette, I took a drag, rounding a corner and run into her sending my cigarette and her books tumbling to the ground. When I looked down, i met her wide, startled eyes.
"Oh sorry I .... wasn't looking where I was going, oh my ...my books." She reached down to gather her books and... surprising myself I helped her pick up her books, I would normally have just walked away smoking my cigarette but for some crazy reason I kneeled down picking up her books.
"Here." I said my voice colder than I intended.
"Thank you sir and I..I.. I'm sorry." She was flashing that shy smile of her's, I just nodded and took another cigarette, lighting it, I walked pass her and back in the pud, but I felt something when she smiled at me.... curiosity maybe, I didn't look back and went back to my annoying friends.
"Sergei!" One of my problems called out his name was Ivan. "What took you so long? You shouldn't run away from us you know we're just concerned about you." He was the immature talkative one.
"I went for a smoke break, away from you guys." I said lifting the cigarette to my lips, taking a slow drag that burned its tip to a bright, angry orange. The smoke curled out of my mouth in a lazy stream, hanging in the air before dissolving into the puds lights. "You guys can be annoying."
"Us? Annoying?" Said another one of my problems, Alexei "We're just concerned about you, you need a woman in your life. Or maybe.....?"
Ivan gasped dramatically"You prefer men...???."
I felt my face twist in annoyance."How I wish I could kill you." I said grinding my teeth clenching my fist.
"I'm just curious." Said Ivan
"Relax Sergei." Said Mikhail the more mature one in my friend group, "But he's right, you should settle down you're not getting any younger. I know you think that's not you 'style', look, hooking up with a new woman every week seems, fun but, it will only leave you hollow inside."
Yeah, I knew he would say that and he's words were true but —I can't get attached to a person — no I don't want to get attached to a person. But for some reason my mind flashed with the image of that girl I met outside.
"I guess you're right. But when you look this good ladies just throw themselves on me, I can't help it." I took a sip of my whiskey. "I'll be at the strip club if you guys need me."
I said leaving the pud.
"Sergei, what were we just talking about." said Mikhail
"Let the poor man enjoy his youth, but consider Mikhail's words, settle down." Said Alexei.
"We'll accept you even if you like man. And besides which nice girl could handle this bastard's cokey attitude." Said Ivan, smirking, that annoying smirk of his, then he burst out laughing.
I clenched my fists,my eyes narrowing as i watched Ivan wheeze with laughter. " Ivan , I'm warning you…"
Ivay wiped a tear from his eye, still chuckling. "Oh, lighten up, man! I mean, I was just—"
Wham!
My fist met Ivan's head with a solid thud, and the laughter was instantly silenced. Ivan blinked once, a dazed look passing over his face, before he dozed off, and he crumpled to the bar table in a heap.
"Sergei!! Did you have to hit him that hard!!" Exclamed my two other friends.
"He should have seen that coming." I said taking a drag of my cigarette. "Adiós, amigos.(bye, friends)" I walked out of the pud. I took a corner and found a scarf I recognized, it was her's, right where I run into that girl, it must have fell as she dropped her books and forgot to pick it up, besides she seemed to be in a hurry, I could have walked away but I picked it up wrapping it on my hand.
