"Don't attack him!" Evelyn shouted, her hand gripping Lionel's tightly as he stood beside him.
Lionel glanced over his shoulder but kept his focus on the man in front of him. "Why? Do you know him?"
"Yes." she responded, her eyes on the new addition.
"You know me?" The intruder's voice was filled with confusion as his brow furrowed.
The man looked to be in his twenties, with fair skin and a slightly slender build. If one weren't paying close attention, they might mistake him for a fair maiden.
"Aren't you from the village a few kilometers from here?" Evelyn asked, her voice calm.
"Yes…" the man answered, still keeping his guard up as he gripped his dagger.
Lionel finally relaxed, loosening his stance as he listened to their exchange.
"Guess you know each other, then," he said, but eyed the young man with unhidden skepticism.
