As dawn broke over Ekama, a laborer named Kola was making his way to work when he heard the faint sound of crying. Drawn by the unusual noise, he walked closer to the dump and, to his horror, saw a tiny bundle lying helplessly among the refuse. He knelt down and lifted the baby, her fragile form stirring as he cradled her. The sight moved him deeply, and he whispered to the little one, promising she would be safe.
Kola rushed to the village police station, where he handed the baby over with a heavy heart. The officers, equally moved by the child's plight, contacted the local motherless babies' home. When the caregivers arrived, they took the child with gentle hands, soothing her and wrapping her in warmth. They named her "Abeni," meaning "we asked for her, and she came," as though she were a gift from above. In the home, Abeni found safety, but her story was only beginning.
