Chapter 11 - Physical Animality

"W-What the…This isn't good…" He exclaimed, taking his hands off his face to look and see if anything had changed. They seemed normal, he was relieved to see nothing was different and tried walking to the door, his head was spinning which resulted in him tripping and falling headfirst against the door. Tyrell was grabbing at his head to try and calm down the pain, he rubbed the spot on his head and stood up once more. As he opened the door to the P.E hall a reindeer ran past the door almost impaling him with its antlers. He looked around the hall to see the students still doing warmup exercises. The teacher blew his whistle, and they all stopped, running back to the front of the hall and stood in a line. Carmen came dashing out of the girl's Tyrell quickly moved and stood in the line as well. He stood in front of the line and held his clipboard, looking down at it before looking up again, this time at Tyrell. He had pale white skin and a stomach that hung over the top of his sweatpants. His hair was messily put together by his bright red headband and the tank top he was wearing was stretched out.

"Mister Jonathan, glad you could join us today. You normally never show up, will you try to do all of the exercises we have planned or are you going to back out?" The teacher said loudly so everybody could hear.

"I can't. Just the normal ones, mister Bok." Tyrell sighed and tried avoiding eye contact with his teacher, making mister Bok roll his eyes and grab his whistle.

"Alright maggots, let's get these exercises over with so ya'll can go eat your disgusting lunches. Side note, stop feeding your anima's food from the human menu!" Mister Bok blew his whistle once more, everyone started moving towards the first exercise, being long jumping. Tyrell was in the front of the line, he stepped onto the platform and started running towards the jumping-line. His feet were moving slowly, once he got to the line, he squatted down to build up power in his legs and jumped towards the mats. Tyrell landed on his butt at the 12 feet mark and got up from the mats. Tyrell stretched his arms out above his head and looked at Carmen to see how she reacted. She giggled once she noticed him gazing at her, the other students did the same exercise, and she slowly moved up in the line. The next exercise was balancing, as he was the first in line, Tyrell took a deep breath before putting one foot onto the balancing beam. He looked over at Carmen again, seeing her get a running start on the jumping exercise and squatting down almost touching the floor. She jumped up and landed at the 17 feet mark. Carmen stood up and winked at him with a smirk. He gulped and started blushing slightly holding up the line.

"Dude you're holding up the line! Get going." One of his classmates yelled. Tyrell, slightly getting caught off guard, tried to quickly take another step but fell off the beam and onto the matt below it. The other classmates chuckled and giggled, continuing the exercise. He rubbed the spot on his butt to ease the pain. Mister Bok approached him, bending down so their heads were on the same level.

"Jonathan. I need you to keep your head in the game." His teacher exclaimed.

"I know sir… it's just that I'm nervous about the other exercises…" He mustered up a lie so that the teacher wouldn't talk about him being distracted by Carmen, he tried looking down to hide his red cheeks. "Why can't I just join the regular P.E classes?"

"This is the millionth time you've asked. And every time I tell you that anima users and regulars can't do physical exercises together, anima users are naturally physically much stronger than regulars. Besides, once you work out your whole rebellious situation, that should be the same case for you. Now go back in line and finish these exercises before I send you to the principal's office." He blew his whistle in Tyrell's face, he rolled his eyes and stood up. Carmen who was already balancing on the beam stretched out her hand towards him, offering her help. Tyrell grabbed her hand, and she pulled him up, helping him balance on the beam. Once they both stepped off of the beam they proceeded to walk to the following exercise, weightlifting. The bar was grey with three fifty-kilogram plates already on each side, Tyrell grabbed the bar with two hands, bent his knees, and tried to keep his upper body straight. He then tried standing up blowing the air out of his mouth and got it up to his knees. He let the bar fall out of his hands onto the matt underneath him. He stepped off of the matt and waited for Carmen to finish the exercise. Mister Bok grabbed two more plates and put them on the sides of the bar, giving Carmen a thumbs up. She grabbed the bar and squatted down, straightening her back and lifting the bar without any strain on her face. Carmen reached her legs, then went up to her stomach and lifted it up all the way over her head. Tyrell shook his head. She threw it onto the matt, went over to Tyrell and patted him on the shoulder.

"Nice one, Carm." He said holding her hand in the same place on his shoulder.

"Thanks Ty, you know you should be able to do much more than that right?"

"Believe me, I've been told that since we started high school. Let's just finish this aight?" Carmen nodded as the both of them walked to the next exercise. There were two red lines on the far-left side of the P.E hall with sixty feet in between.

"Okay students, this will be the last test before the sparring matches." Mister bok said with his whistle still in his mouth, they both stood right behind the first line, waiting for their signal to run. The whistle loudly echoed through the large room and the sound of feet hitting the ground in a hurry followed straight behind. Tyrell was in front of Carmen for a total of five seconds, Carmen quickly overtook Tyrell and looked behind her, glancing at him. She passed the finish line and exhaled loudly, Tyrell passed it a few moments later. He put his hands on his knees, a little bit out of breath.

"I kept up with you a little bit huh?" He said laughing and trying to catch his breath.

"Heh, yeah, just a little." She responded.

"Well, I'm better at swimming than running anyway. Besides, you basically have a power up."

"So, you're basically saying I can beat you because I'm better?" She said nudging him with her elbow.

"At 'some' things. Don't get too overconfident, garden gnome."

"Whatever you say chocolate bonbon." She said wrapping her arms around his waist and pressing her chin onto his chest, still looking up at him. Just then, the sound of the whistle was heard again, Mister Bok clapped his hands.

"Okay maggots, pair up. We're starting the Anima sparring matches, fish type anima users, make your way to the swimming pool. Let's not repeat the events of last week, I'm looking at you, Davis. Some of the equipment is still not fully dried." All the students stopped with what they were doing and got into pairs. Several students walked towards a blue door in the back of the P.E hall. Carmen let go and took a step away from Tyrell, following the other students. Tyrell did the same, as they opened the door to the swimming pool and walked up a few flights of stairs, the sunlight reflecting of the water blinded them once they reached the top, the roof and walls were almost entirely made out of glass and windows. It was only connected to the main school building by one wall, almost being a separate small building entirely. The small amount of actual brick walls being a light shade of blue, the tiles on the floor were a darker shade, symbolising the different depths of the sea. There was a huge swimming pool in the middle of the building, it was seventy-five feet deep and fifty feet wide. Tyrell took a deep breath and smiled, his body released all of the tension it had felt the past few minutes. Carmen looked at him grabbed his hand, walking further into the swimming pool's building. The other students entered, every pair stood on opposite sides of the pool. Tyrell and Carmen stood on the right side of the pool next to the wall of windows. The students all started summoning their anima, the building filling up with all of their different aura colours, the water splashed around as their animas jumped into the pool, the water that was summoned with them started making big waves in the pool, almost overflowing. Tyrell looked at them swimming around, seeing dolphins, walruses dugongs and more.

"Okay Ty, you ready?" Carmen asked, getting into a fighting position. Her legs had some distance between them, she leaned forward to get ready to run towards Tyrell. He looked at her and frowned.

"You know, you shouldn't even be here. You're a mammal type. Besides, you know what I think about these exercises." Tyrell said.

"You're right. But otherwise, you'd end up with Mister Bok on your ass again. We've done this a few times already, I'll go easy on you just like before. And don't worry about me, I don't really need any practice." Carmen responded, Tyrell's frown changed into a small smile as he hesitantly got into a fighting stance himself. Carmen took a few quick steps forward, the cold water from the overflowing pool splashing upwards. Right before she got in front of Tyrell, she took a step to the right and pulled her arm backwards, Carmen threw a punch at his stomach. Tyrell's face had confusion all over it, he put his leg up and blocked the hit, being pushed back by it instead. As he landed Carmen jumped towards him, Tyrell put his arms up sideways to protect his torso. As she closed in on him, she grabbed him by the neck and put her right leg between his legs. She kicked her leg backwards and pushed her arm that was around his neck downwards for a quick takedown. Tyrell, with eyes as open as they could be, put one of his arms against the ground to stop the fall, using his other hand to grab her by her leg and pulled it towards him, shifting the balance of both of their bodies to her. Tyrell now stood up straight and pushed Carmen to he ground, as her body hit the ground the almost freezing cold water spattered all around them. He looked down at her, pouting out of distaste.
