Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 6: picking a weapon

Over the past two weeks, Jonathan's progress had been nothing short of remarkable. Under the guidance of the enigmatic woman, his strength had grown rapidly, much faster than he had ever anticipated. Despite his reputation for lacking talent, he had already ascended to the level of a three-star Novice. The newfound control over his internal energy and his enhanced combat abilities were proof of his hard work and dedication.

Determined to maintain his momentum, Jonathan sat cross-legged on a large rock, his breathing steady as he meditated. The spiritual energy of the mountain flowed through him, nourishing his inner power and clearing his mind of all distractions. His serene focus was interrupted only when his teacher descended gracefully from above.

This time, she had shed the mask that usually concealed her features, revealing a visage of unparalleled beauty. Her porcelain skin, as flawless as freshly fallen snow, and her graceful presence seemed almost otherworldly. She landed softly beside him, her expression warm and encouraging.

"You can rest now," she said gently, her voice soothing and measured to avoid disturbing his tranquility.

Jonathan slowly opened his eyes, taking a deep breath as he transitioned out of his meditative state. He noticed her standing before him, her serene gaze fixed on him.

"Three-star Novice, not bad," she praised, a hint of pride in her tone.

"Thank you, Master," Jonathan replied, though a flicker of doubt crossed his face. "But I worry that my progress is too rapid. I'm concerned my foundation might not be stable."

The woman gave him a reassuring smile. "If that were the case, I would have told you. Your progress is steady and well-founded."

Her expression grew serious as she continued, "However, there's something important we must address now."

"What is it?" Jonathan asked, his curiosity piqued.

"It's time for you to choose your weapon," she explained, her tone leaving no room for doubt. "Combat isn't just about internal energy. Without a weapon, you'll be vulnerable."

She raised her hand, and a series of weapons materialized in the air before them, floating with an almost mystical glow.

Jonathan's eyes widened in awe. He had never seen such finely crafted weapons. Each one seemed to pulse with a unique energy, their intricate designs captivating him.

"Pick one," the woman instructed, her voice gentle yet firm. "But remember, once you make your choice and touch a weapon, there's no turning back."

Jonathan's excitement was tempered by a hint of caution. "What do you mean?"

"These aren't ordinary weapons," she clarified. "Once you choose, the weapon will bond with you. It will draw from your internal energy, and no one else will be able to wield it."

Jonathan nodded, absorbing her words. His gaze returned to the floating weapons: a large red sword with glowing inscriptions, a sleek blue sword of slightly smaller size, an intricately carved wooden staff with a blade tip, and a seemingly simple staff radiating immense power.

After a moment of contemplation, Jonathan spoke. "Master, I have a question."

The woman raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to continue.

"Can I choose two?" he asked, his voice filled with both determination and curiosity.

The woman's eyes widened slightly in surprise. "Two? Why would you need two weapons?"

Jonathan hesitated, then explained, "I feel a connection to one weapon, but another one seems to complement what the first lacks. Together, they feel... right."

The woman studied him closely, a mixture of pride and intrigue in her eyes. "If you believe this is the path for you, then so be it. But be warned—"

Before she could finish, Jonathan reached out and grasped both the red sword and the simple staff. Instantly, a powerful force surged through him. The combined weight of the weapons bore down on him, and he fell to the ground with a resounding thud.

The woman observed him calmly, a faint smile playing on her lips. "You have chosen. Now, rise and prove that your choice was wise."
