As she lies in the hospital bed, slowly losing her breathe, I hold her hand tightly, promising her I'll never love another the way I do her. "Oh, darling," she said smiling, "the adventures we had were extraordinary. We will meet again."
I smiled, as a tear shreds, running down my cheek, "You think so, huh?"
"I know so." She smiles. Her fingers loosened from my hand and her chest slowly stops.
"Til we meet again." I whispered. I go to stand up, and my left arm begins to cause pain. I immediately realize what is happening and I get into her bed, laying next to her. I lay my head onto her shoulder and slowly close my eyes as my heart stops.
Her nurse walks in, "Alright Mrs. Donavan, are you ready for your meds?" She waited, "Mrs. Donavan?" She walked over and checked for a pulse. "Damn." She looks up at the other nurses across the hall and nods. One nurse leans against the door frame, "They sure loved each other."
"I don't think he's left this room since she's been here." Another nurse said, walking by.
"They'll meet again. She always told me they would somehow."
"If you say so." The other nurse walks out.
"Oh, she knows so."
